- Malaysia Airlines used to be a 5-star airline. Then came the financial crisis, then another one, then it became a disaster airline, with 2 horrible incidents within 4 months: Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 to Beijing disappeared and later supposedly crashed into the Indian Ocean, and then Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was downed my militias over Ukraine. It was out of the airlines control, and yet the airline has been suffering immensely from these terrible incidents
How is flying Malaysia Airlines today, in 2023?
We're visiting the airline's flagship lounge for business class in Kuala Lumpur, the Golden Lounge. (the Platinum Lounge is open again now too - but not available for business class but rather for their very, very few business-suite passengers and oneworld emerald customers).
Unfortunately they have a pretty uncomfortable seat in business class that is still used by a lot of airlines. Let's check out the whole flight experience!

MH were my regular carrier to Australia in the late 90s early 2000s.
I am very fond of them from that era.
Whilst they have lost their sparkle,they are a nice options and cabin crew are generally more relaxed than SQ.
I totally agree. And they had really that sparkle you talk about, back in that time! I remember their commercials, all very beautiful and elegant. But as you said, very nice and genuine staff still

I agree with the lounge. It was sub-ok. The showers were warm to cold; they ran out of towels, shampoo and soap. I brought a gym towel (luckily) and I had a hotel body liquid soap bottle. The lounge was nice. The electrical connectors were damaged in multiple areas, as I had to move seats till I found one that functional.

A330neo and a350 cabin redesigned in mid 2024 will hopefully get MAS alongside bigger airlines

Back in the day MAS used to do alcohol on their domestic flights. Flew from Kota Kinabalu to Penang which was 3 flights and they served Veuve Cliquot Champagne on all flights. Very modest Business Class prices as well.

Another great report! I’ve not flown Malaysia airlines but I’d hesitate on longer flights based on your experience. We go to Bali every year and one of the highlights for me is seeing the volcanoes of Java on the approach!

Nice vlog. Spot on the improvements MH needed to stay competitive. Sadly MH is not a 5 stars airline anymore. Provided multiple feedbacks to Golden Lounge on the wet shower room with disgusting grout, clogged sink and shower area but issues still persist. Anyway, I have stopped flying MH since they appeared to be unreliable. They canceled a flight but then reinstated it back and canceled it a month before my departure.
Thank you for the valuable feedback! I think that cancelation and rebooking happens on many airlines. Also to me with multiple carriers... - but yes, there's right now lots of improvement necessary to get close to the 5-star position they once had.
@@TravelSingFlyEnglishEdition Agree, cancellation is a norm these days but my incident with MH was that they canceled my flight few months before departure (an agent told me the flight is discontinued) and before I could reschedule a new flight, MH reinstated my original flight. As I booked my flight via American Airlines, I need to pay change fees as the flight was not canceled. MH agent assured me thr flight was not discontinued but the flight end up canceled a month before departure. AA managed to get me another flight, longer and more transit but I am grateful I got a flight at such short time. Another friend of mine booked similar ticket at a different departure date and had the same cancellation from MH. Anyway, I hope MH can return to be a 5-star airline one day.
Great vlog that provides us with valuable suggestions on our seat choices. I saw the double seats by the window and in the middle of the video, but which ones are better if we are 2 adults? Are the seats in the middle more spacious than those by the window?
You have to look exactly on the seatmap and follow what I say about the individual seats. If it helps, it's the same as on my review about Swiss B777 Bangkok to Zürich, where I go into detail in the last 5 minutes or so

As I say in the report, the double seats are better, as at least one of you will sit more comfortably. I actually show also the double seats by the window and in the middle in the video, so you can see and decide 😊

1K is a throne seat with a massive footwell, and is by far the best seat on the MH 333 if you can book it before anyone else.

A complete overhaul of seat design is needed for MAS.
And for the other airlines mentioned that use this seat, too, actually

They're getting new business class seats on their A330neos, a reverse herringbone seat in a 1-2-1 configuration, according to the CEO. This is the same seat that BA and Etihad uses.

Malaysia Airlines has to up its onboard catering & service. Start behaving like a legacy carrier to compete with the best in the region.
For me I think same too. Because Thai airways have a design seat and cabin is more beautiful and civilized than MH . and Thai airways have destinations to international more than MH. Thai Airways have a more fleet than.

MH class J is +1000euro than QR Qsuite same route/Codeshare. Issue ticket with QR.

FRA-DOH-KLIA. My ticket was issued by QR. 1keuro cheaper but return to Germany, I can't avoid MH codeshare Hardware, schade, Erfahrungen ist schlecht.
@@Machen1988 I'm so sorry.... Weil, make the best out of it. Avoid the throne seat at all costs! Take one of the seats I recommend in the video (or in the end of the Swiss video - same Layout)
Takes guts to take Malaysia Airlines given the 2 disasters...I won't risk it!
Hi! I talk about the incidents in the report. Did you watch it? Both disasters weren't caused by the airline. It was a horrible coincidence of two disasters in a row... Probably a hijacking of the first one, and then another one shot by missiles of militia in Ukraine. Could have happened to Emirates, Lufthansa, KLM etc etc as well... It was just the worst of luck
Ridiculous! Disasters. Everyone knows both are freak accidents, if not it has always had excellent history. Hundreds of flights have taken off since those accidents. We're all still here.

If an airline doesn't provide a First Class, that's an indication that it's not a top airline.

Actually EVA is a fantastic airline, e. g., but without a first class (although their Business is better than BA First).... QATAR does have First Class, but only on those few A380 - does that count? They're a great airline anyway (have you seen that Qatar First report on my channel? Really fun to watch)

Not true, it all depends on the business model and strategy. Having first class but a bad commercial decision is most stupid
I am planning to fly to Bali, but I'll either be on an A350 or an A380, both of which have far better Business class seating than these little planes.
Singapore Airlines gets me from JFK to Singapore on an A350 and then to Bali on a 777 (Singapore Airlines 8548).
That's fair enough for me. The 777 is pretty good if you can't have an A350.
There's no A380 going to Bali, except for Emirates. And the A330 is not a small plane, by the way
It's a damn shame you have to fly in Business class to get a decent seat.
The economy class on those small flights is HELL. Regardless the class you're in, the food service is extremely limited.
I only fly business class - regardless the cost because I have no otheer choice - I simply can't fly in economy ever again.
I disagree. First of all, this is an A330, which is a widebody plane, and then economy service on most big Asian carriers is pretty good. And this plane was almost empty in Economy, while it was full in business class. I'd choose economy next time
