I think a video comparing the full Dehancer to the Lite version, and maybe how to supplement the Lite version with Davinci's native tools to get close to the full version's capabilities, would be quite popular.

Thanks for this very honest video. I fully agree re the price which wood look more attractive if only slightly under $ 400.
Re the performance of Dehancer, I have mixed experience: Yes, it puts some additional load on our systems.
On the other hand, it allows (in my case, at least) to switch off quite some nodes in my huge grading-tree in DAVINCI RESOLVE, freeing up computer load.
So, I end up with quite the same render and playback speed as before.

I saw that you used it to edit iPhone 14 Pro footage. Since there is no log or flat profile did you just bake it over the standard color out of the camera? How was it?

    • @FredTrevinoColor
      @FredTrevinoColor  3 месяца назад

Hey! I actually rarely use it with the iPhone. But yes, I do just apply it over the iPhone footage and then tweak it from there. Dehancer does have an iPhone app though specifically for iPhone footage and photos.

Regarding the price yeah it's on the up side, but they offer dehancer lite, bloom, grain as a separate purchase which makes it more affordable. If you doing real world jobs you get your money back from the first gig and then you are set for life, plus not to mention that they always upgrading it adding new cool features to the plugin for free.

    Other cons of Dehancer:
    1. Different versions of the plugin are not compatible.
If you graded your project with version 5, version 6 will change its look.
    2. Grain is calculated based on timeline resolution.
    3. Adding grain changes other properties of the image (at least it was the case with version 5).
In my case, it desaturated some highlights.
Do you need Dehancers grain? Not really. Walter Volpatto uses built-in grain generator.
Do you need Dehancers tone curve and color adjustments? Not really. DaVinci has great free Kodak and Fuji Film LUTs. You just need to apply them correctly.
In the end, I have mixed feelings after trying Dehancer. It doesn't save my time and doesn't improve the result in a meaningful way.
Best film emulatiin plugin that I heard of is Filmbox.
Could you make video about it?

Humble opinion. I can value your video with the perspective of having taken that path, but there are some complaints that are not entirely fair. The price also alarmed me and there is no obligation to buy anything unless it has value to improve your material. I used the demo, I bought the grain since it is the best on the market and then the lite version and finally the full version. I work with a Mac M1 and 8 RAM, although it is slow at times, I can work, see how the project is going and rendering a clip. I have a full DVR, the Mini Panel and I have been using DVR for quite some time, so the question is, why do I need Dehancer?
I have many ways to do color and I find that with a clean Dehancer node that I have as a Power Grade, I can improve some very specific aspects. I also use Mononode to add density. Bloom is not a real Tiffen filter, but it does the job if you didn't want to risk it. I think if you want to improve the footage it is a good tool.

  • @jmbaillard7015

The way Dehancer applies grain is much better that the way DVR does it.

The big things for me are the bloom and halation. Resolve’s built in halation is TERRIBLE. It applies uniform and is not convincing or appealing to look at. The bloom and halation in Dehancer (from what I’ve seen online, I haven’t bought it) look so realistic and natural, it really makes me want to buy dehancer but it keeps getting more and more expensive
