i think the 3d and 2d versions both have their own charm. i grew up with the ds version, enjoyed it a lot, then now I'm playing the ps2 version and it's like the console version is an early build that they didn't entirely finish, especially the second area and the boss, it felt very underwhelming compared to the giant in the ds version. and it generally has way better movement, sprite and sound design overall but still, i am very happy to replay this game and the sequels, which ARE worse on ds, no sense of depth whatsoever unlike the first game, and the gameplay kinda sucks for a 2d game with 3d models, the story was probably cut a lot because of the system it was on, i have no idea what it's like in the "full" version.
