I remember waiting for the Q65 bus that night in front of Wendy’s around 10:30 pm. I didn’t see the two guys go in but could see the workers inside starting to clean up. I worked in The CD music store Coconuts on Main Street and used to grab lunch there all the time. I can see their smiling faces till this day. The manager was such a nice guy with the most sincere smile. I also remember Anita’s face too always smiling. I remember my co-workers and I were on high alert after that night when closing up. About a month later I heard the WIZ across the street got robbed too with the workers getting tied up in the basement but thankfully no one got hurt. I quit. 2 weeks later after having worked there for 3 years. This case has haunted me for years. I can’t understand how such a tragic event can happen to hard working people. May their souls forever Rest In Peace.
The unimaginable degree of savagery that it takes to do these hideous things to completely innocent, unarmed and defenceless people escapes me! That both murderers were so completely at ease at doing these things makes them psychopaths.
This was a big story reported by all the NY papers and media when it happened all the way to the 2 guys sentencing! Just another sad story that happened in NY like countless other big crimes!😢

Just Mister P you’re so right. I remember being a 17 y.o. HS senior in far rock, working after school til closing at the neighborhood supermarket. My night supervisor was this girl who was like 21. She used to have her guy friends that didn’t work @ the supermarket upstairs while we were counting cash at the end of the night. After this massacre I used to be so afraid that we would get robbed and killed at the end of the night. Needless to say I worked there for another 2-3 months and quit. I later found out the chick got in real trouble for stealing $$$ from the store.

I remember the night this happened! Living in ny the news travel fast! However. The night this happened a friend of mine’s was working @Burger King in Brooklyn and I went up there to shared the news and protect my homie. Not a near weapon, and I can see in his eyes that he wasn’t happy to hear about what had happened in Wendy’s. Afterwards he shared a story with about a man that had just left the store. This guy was wearing a dark colored hoodie real low, low enough to cover his eyes and nose and just kept trying to get in. The store had already close for the evening and the employees were cleaning up in preparation for the morning shift. Anyway, the guy just kept knocking on the window asking them to open the door “open the fucking door” the man said. My friend kept repeating that the store was closed and threatened to call the cops but the man would not for some reason go away, and after a period of ten minutes he finally gives up and as he’s walking away he kicked the window hard as hell, but the glass was bulletproof and didn’t even budge. The crew that night was scared as hell, and when I showed up and knocked on the window everyone quickly turned with this panic look on their faces. Shit scared me! After my friend finished telling me what had happened to them just moments before I showed up I myself got scared cause I had just walked pass this guy 2 minutes prior to my arrival at the store. Boy I tell you, that was the longest walk home that night. We almost didn’t say a word to each other til we were insight of our neighborhood, and then it all came out. We were all like “ yo cuz what if that nigga would’ve got inside the store? Y’all would’ve probably gotten robbed or murked (killed) over some bum ass Burger King like them people and Wendy’s! Long story longer. That was a crazy night. This could have very well been my homie! Ny in them days were roofless and their weren’t a bunch of cameras everywhere like it is today! Happy someone was able to survived.
There was a shooting at an Arby's where I live, one black kid was killed in the doorway. 2 years later they build a Chinese restaurant over it, which has been having more business than the Arby's ever got.
I searched the address of the old Wendy's, and I'm shocked that I already went there to buy boba tea at Tiger Sugar. Damn. I didn't know there was a massacre in the location.
I remember this story, terribly sad. One of my first jobs at 15 were at McDonald's and I was very nervous because this story has happened years earlier.

Hannibal Zulu I agree
Back to segregation?
I never heard of this. Just sad omg. Prayers to the all the families. RIP.
So sad How can people be so brutal God-bless them all
We need more godly, spirit driven, walk by spirit people
Thank you so much for reporting this. I remember when it happened I felt so terrible for all who were lost. Such a cold hearted crime.
I am in Brooklyn and I feel the stench of the crime as it happened 21 years ago. The worst things were that those poor people were harmed and killed.
I remember that coconuts
I just got chills again ...I remember when this happened 😢😢
It's Just. OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!!
stacey earle so very sad
When i heard the dad that broke me. He loves his daughter you can tell.
This is so heartbreaking. I lost it when her Father was saying that he knew in his heart that she was saying daddy daddy.😭😭😭💔💔💔
It's a blessing that he survived what happened to the guy who cared him up the stairs?
@Nhasharra Allen he asked what happened to the man who carried him Slowmo...
You dont know then you should have moved on
Nhasharra Allen why are you talking to yourself weirdo get over it
@Nhasharra Allen I'm going to take a wild guess that you are 12 years old
They said he was barely brushed by the bullet or something so he just got scraped by it no damage he's ok.
Breonna Taylor 😂😂😂🤣🤣 what does suffering from lupus look like?
The unimaginable degree of savagery that it takes to do these hideous things to completely innocent, unarmed and defenceless people escapes me!
That both murderers were so completely at ease at doing these things makes them psychopaths.
Right? Hell for all eternity awaits or is already in session.
@@SethMacLeod95 We need to move that process along MUCH faster. Make damn sure they never get out to do it again. Bring back public hanging. Lol
I've never heard about this, why hasn't anybody covered this story, that's sad af
This was a big story reported by all the NY papers and media when it happened all the way to the 2 guys sentencing! Just another sad story that happened in NY like countless other big crimes!😢
It was 20 years ago
I read the story when it came out in the ny post
I vaguely remember this.
Because it was 20 years ago. I'm sure it was a big story back then.
Stomach is absolutely twisted into knots like a rope hearing this.
When I saw Wendy’s Massacre, I was like: When that happened? I thought it was recently. 🤦🏻♂️ R.I.P to the Victims 🙏🏻 Why You have to Kill them ?? 😠
I remember the building was vacant in 2003. I heard a crime happened there but didnt really know the details. I was 9 when it happened. Was a documentary like a year ago on tv when I heard the details.
Alima Wilson Wow !! 🤦🏻♂️
@@junito1008 Yeah it's just beyond words.. If you want to rob than rob and go. No need to harm others. On top of it, was it he there manager at one point? I read someone comment and she said the girl was her goddaughter and one of the workers followed the guy to work at Wendy's from another job and he than takes his life.
RIP to all that passed and good luck to all that survived and my condolences to the families.
Hearing the dad speak just made me so teary eyed
Good God, I remember this story like it was yesterday. Thank you so much for the update!
I remember it, too, right from Brooklyn, even though I was not at the site.
The manager calling them downstairs like that for the “meeting” Gheesh.
I will never forget this story this was horrific and unbelievable R.I.P to all the victims 🙏🏽🙏🏽💔💔
I worked at Wendy’s... heard about this a few years ago... sad
Steph JustSteph wow so sad
I still remember this like it was yesterday. My sister use to work in the KFC that’s on the same block as Wendy’s back in high school. So This hit me really hard. I’m praying for all those innocent ppl that lost their lives. Every time I walk or drive by that place, I can’t help from remembering that horrible night.
Wow I remember this case, I helped to cater the memorial service for the 16 yo Jamaican teen. It was super 😢
Anita was 16?
@@jamsng According to the articles I've read it mentioned that Anita was of age 22-23.
The only thing that makes me the slightest bit happy is that these beautiful souls didn't have to live through 9/11.
Sad rip to those victims
Ruby it really is
All those hardworking decent people from different backgrounds just working together. Such a sad end
This makes me sad. You never know what can happen at any time.
I will never forget these victims faces ,after so many years like yesterday SIP and to the survivor 🙏♥️☮️ peace
So sad 💔I've never heard of this case. May they all rest in peace 🙏🏾
I went to elementary school with Anita Smith.I remember her smile she liked to have fun never caused any trouble.😔My condolences her mother, sister and cousin.
What school may I ask?
I work in Flushing and just last week me and my coworkers was talking about this tragedy! RIP
I’d never heard of this one. This is so sad for the others who didn’t make it but i’m glad he’s still walking and talking.
SHeesh seems unreal watching my brother Jaquione Johnson. The pain my brother went threw didn't hit when I was younger but it sure hit home now that i'm older to fully understand.. It's still sureal that he survive. All thanks go to God himself for his grace and saving power!!! Keep my family and thoughs who lost their love ones in prayer!
Your brother is a walking miracle him explaining the events was scary I can only imagine I'm sorry you had to go through that and for the rest of the victims in this situation my heart goes out. Innocent people trying to make an honest living also had other dreams I read some of the co-workers had dreams they wanted to pursue going to school just to have their lives destroy by two low life people. I hope jail is making those men lives miserable!
Noire Talk yes people don’t understand how damaging it was and the said part about it before he got shot he was about to get his GED and go to the NAVY! 🤦🏽♀️ prayerful he will get access and help to the things he need! It’s complicated right now 😔
Sad*
I hadn't heard about this before... Absolutely gut wrenching. The pain in the eyes of those left bereaved is heartbreaking.
Awww man. I remember this. Such a tragic story. Kinda hard to forget growing up here in NY and being nervous about working in fast food places after that.
@@torylee8277 I was the same age as you when this happened. I'm still shocked by this to this day. I was working at Subway making sandwiches. I had quit after that. I honestly thought that the people who committed that vicious act could show up anywhere. I was not risking it.
So sad
I remember this story as well.. But back then a lot of fast food spots used to get robbed and didn’t make the news although nobody got murdered...
I remember this case. Can't believe it's been 20 years. May God bless this man and the victims families
My God. I'll never understand how someone can be so heartless. For a few dollars?
Maybe Kanye can help u better understand lmaoooo
Some people, like that former store manager, have pledged their allegiances to the spirits of the devils by obeying them, instead of the Spirit of Gracious Great God, who could give them the best help they would ever need.
That poor man. He will have nightmares for the rest of his life.
According to Wiki, the murderers only got $2400. Life in prison for $1200 each. 5 people died for $480 each
Bro they could of just gotten a job & saved up man people are just so stupid
I never heard of this case but it sure is heartbreaking all those young people with so much potential died and I'm glad this man survived. As a father, I could feel the father's emotions and it really is senseless and very sad.
Remind me of my city when there own coworkers rob n murder them got me thinking even work can be your last.
Chicago?
21+ years later and I still cry for those innocent victims. I remember this case so vividly because DAVE THOMAS even made an announcement on tv AND I think he came to New York to support the families.
It's only 21 years how is 21 plus
Will never ever forget this night.
me either this was sad as hell
Right I was so young
My hearts is broken listening to those parents and survivors. 😢
RIP to all the families...this is so devastating. Lord please bless the families 🙏🏾🙏🏾
The murders happened 21 years ago and it was the worst that has ever happened to Queens.
This story made me cry.
Johnson I'm happy y'all did that trial I was there when y'all prosecute this bum y'all did y'all thing I'm happy to see this I've been looking for this Wendy's really need to pay y'all it's over deserved
I'm a Queens resident and this crime is one of the cruelest I've ever heard of. I'm very glad to see Mr. Johnson looking well and I wish he didn't have to carry such memories. My prayers to the families of the victims.
My heart hearts for the parents. No parent should have to bury their children. It’s so sad all the way around.
My god i remeber this like it was yesterday
I remember this. It was horrible then, and just as horrible now.
Patrick Castro carried his coworker up those stairs!? Wow what character! I wonder if him and Jaquan keep in touch?! Those two men were so lucky.
Wow, I’ve never heard of this case until today. This was really sad!😞
I hope he knows he deserves to be alive and doesn't suffer from survivors guilt. I pray for your healing through the one and only Jesus Christ 🙏🏽
All I can say is WOW! RIP to all and I hope the survivor finds peace.
People murdered and they turned it into a mall? Should be a memorial. 💗
No white victims so it’s not a memorial. Sad ain’t it?
There was a shooting at an Arby's where I live, one black kid was killed in the doorway. 2 years later they build a Chinese restaurant over it, which has been having more business than the Arby's ever got.

Death don’t Discriminate
I remember this story, terribly sad. One of my first jobs at 15 were at McDonald's and I was very nervous because this story has happened years earlier.
This is heartbreaking 💔😢 how can someone be so evil, for any amount of money. Let alone that small amount. God rest the victims, and bless their families & the survivors.
SICK PEOPLE OUT THERE. I believe every store should have a gun somewhere for self defense and someone obviously trained to use it.
@@MOTORCYCLES-ANDGUNS Absolutely. People that work in shops at late hours should always be protected.
I have never heard of this tragic event. The survivor speaking to the news is blessed. After being shot he had some health issues but eventually overcame them. Amazing!
