After testing I returned the pallet forks to AJ with some suggestions including the side support arm which he already had in the works. He will be getting the arm implemented and hopefully will be sending back a new and improved version in the near future for continued testing!

These are a wonderful tool for you guys using the IBC totes. I recently drove down to AJ’s equipment lot to purchase some face cord bags from him. He is such a professional guy and absolutely wonderful to deal with. A very honest business man. I was shocked at how much time he spent with me for only buying what I would consider a small amount of bags. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy any piece of equipment off of him. It would be worth anyone’s time to invest in the commute or even just the opportunity to give AJ a shot at your business. Great to see you guys collaborating on these forks. Nice! Glad to see you checking these out. Another benefit - once you get a pair of these there's no more need to cut the fronts out of your totes unless you want to stack your wood by hand. I timed myself loading a full cord recently with the rotating forks I built. Dumping 4 totes and leveling the load was just under 6 minutes. You can't beat the time savings with these.
A suggestion for the folks at Shaver - the way that pallet forks mount gives them the ability to slide back and forth so you want change the width and drop them in the next notch, which is nice, but it adds a lot of slop when you rotate 90 degrees. If they can figure out a way to pin of fix them to take out that slop you'd see a big difference in stability, and with that you wouldn't need a side support arm.
I agree, the slop in the forks magnified the shift of the tote. I think adding the support arm will help alleviate the shift while still allowing the forks to be easily adjusted.
Pretty slick, but seems like alot of torque on the loader arms when it rotates. I guess time will tell.

Sure is! Personally, I think they could be even less beefy considering totes of firewood are nowhere near 4,000lbs each. Lighter weight means more machines would be capable of using them!

Congratulations fellows 👍👍 I believe your the first wood hounds that got your hands on them. My only concern, is a load getting stuck in what your dumping and toque the loader frame. Keep an eye on those loader bolts.
I’ve never had wood get stuck, not to say it can’t happen but there’s just too many small pieces for them all to get stuck.
You might think about making some kind of latch system to keep the IBC in place when dumping.
We sold a pair of rotating pallet forks to Operation Southern Firewood for his Kubota compact tractor to dump his IBC totes. He bought the red WiFo rotating pallet forks with the adjustable folding side arm. We also have rotating pallet forks from HLA that are available and more affordable.
I really like the WiFo forks, they seemed to be much lighter than most out there! I almostttt bought them a few months back, had been going back and forth with the manufacturer, shoot me an email if you have a price maybe we can work something out!
Two concerns I’d have would be tweaking the loader arms and multiple dumps will likely stress and break the IBC pallet

On a tractor that size I wonder if it’ll twist the loader? Hard to tell without long term use. But they look super convenient.

These would also be great for tree removal with a ibc tote with the top of the bladder removed. Fill it with all of the rakings and dirty debris that cant be chipped. One flip and go back for another!
For sure! In the past I’ve used bulk bags for the same purpose, takes up a lot less space on the truck

Be sure to watch what impact, if any, the rotational dumping of the fully loaded totes will have on the loader arms. It seems that there is amount of torque going on that could possibly cause some twisting to the arms. Purely an observation. Great concept, if it works.

This video is going to be food for thought for a lot of woodhounds. I'm curious what the long term wear and tear will be on the loader itself with all of the side load going on. On a side note, why are your videos no longer offering a save to playlist option?
I think with the addition of a side support arm they would put a lot less stress on the loader components! Not really sure what that option is? I haven’t changed anything on my end.
Good video and nice preliminary product review 👍 Price is definitely lower than most that are advertised. Interested if this attachment is infinite adjustment or if it is cycled- wether you can rotate it to any angle or if in rotates to a dump only. If it is infinite adjustment you could also use it to tip totes to make them easier to load/stack if need be. Love your content 😊
You can stop the rotation at any point, however they only rotate one direction and 180°
Always improving the wood yard is awesome. I love the rostater. If it doesn’t break the back of you two by not flipping the tractor your in good shape

I think they are a great tool.One thing I was watching was how the arms of the loader moved side to side. I think they would work great until possible loader failure. I have a Kabota L4400 and think it is still a little on the small size for the rotating forks.

They are pretty cool Jake. Since the pivot point is in the center of the loader I don’t think that you’re putting too much extra strain on the right loader arm. Besides, as you noted when the tote approaches 90 degrees rotation, where the twist on the arm would be max, the wood is already falling out relieving the strain. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I’d imagine your skid would have more lift capacity than my tractor! Still debating if they are actually necessary for my operation or not.
With all your IBC totes those rotating pallet forks would be a great addition to your operation. Only concern would be how well the bolts will hold up over time, but I'm sure AJ has already thought about that.

Yeah his bins would be nice but like you said I don’t have the space, I believe he also still hand loads his trailers for delivery which makes no sense to me. Totes have worked very well for me and the amount of wood I produce.

You could turn the IBC tote with the open end to the right so it would start dumping immediately and not torque your loader as much initially.
Yes but that would also shift the tote in the long orientation putting more weight farther out on the forks. With the new side arm AJ is coming out with I think it will greatly reduce the torque on the loader arms.

It would definitely maintain the integrity of your totes over the long run. Because after seminary dumps on one tote the old way. I think they would be getting to be in rough shape. Where this way, it would be almost like they were still new. And I would think once you got used to them. You wouldn't be loading through the back. You might if you just had one, and you weren't time constraint, but if you're loading any more than 1 tote for a full cord or even a 2 cord delivery, I think it just dumped them all over the side. It done an easy enough
It’s definitely easier on the totes but the old way wasn’t really rough on them either, I have gotten pretty good at dumping them. My biggest concern is stress on the tractor itself
Forks adjust in and out lot easier when FEL is higher and forks pointing down at 45°-ish......

Absolutely handy to have. Keeping in mind, heavier forks cuts in to lift capacity, not sure what worse case weight of wood might be (probably wet oak) and might exceed weight ratings of components like pins, arms, axle, tires.
Yep they are definitely heavier than my normal forks
They look great. The only problem is how far out away from the tractor the mechanism puts the forks. This reduces the tractor lifting capacity and also makes the tractor more tipping over to the front if weighted too heavily.

They look like a slick deal.My only concern is that it sounded like a lot of RPM's to lift the load up over the sides and as the tractor gets older will it get the job done. But you know what they make bigger tractors HA HA
It’s definitely a lot of weight to be lifting up that high
Ask for A IBC only rotator, shave off a ton of weight with a fixed fork setting removing a lot of extra metal that makes it adjustable, remove the 2 upright guards, shorten the forks, carve off all extra metal. I can see a side arm getting bent to hell but made to be pushed back into place next to a tree. Take a close look at your video and see if the rotator pivot point needs to be moved to the left to balance the load on the tractor arms.
That’s exactly what I’d want! Unfortunately, I don’t think they are in the market of making one off products it would probably cost me an arm and a leg for a custom set
How many wood cutters use IBC totes? AJ would be stupid not to have a few ready to sell. What is in the guts that makes it turn ? a Motor or a cylinder? thats the only part you need, you already have a quick attach set of forks .@@DudeRanchDIY
If you have the room I would build a ramp made from logs and dirt. I think it would help out filling the container no matter which way you fill it

Weight rating is fine, pressure might be a little off from the colder weather

That works too, I have about 175 totes so these would make delivery season a bit easier.

Initial thought: there seems to be a fair amount of lateral movement in the loader arms once the rotation gets to 20-ish degrees and the forks slide in the pockets. I'd be concerned that after repeated use, that 'twisting' of the loader arms is going to cause premature wear and even failure. Might be less of a concern on a bigger tractor, or maybe an implement like this is only viable long-term for a skid loader? Geat video either way, best of luck to AJ with future iterations of the product!

One large tote loose filled off the conveyor is 1/3 cord. A small tote loose filled is 1/4 cord
Definitely will save you time Jake but I believe the key to those forks is once you start don’t stop. This way you don’t torque the arms on the front end loader. When you stopped, you could see the stress it puts on the loader arms.

Not all that popular here in the states at least for firewood… I wish they made a light duty set specifically for firewood, even these are in the 7-800lb range which seems excessive. Hopefully the side arm will help reduce stress on my smaller machine.
i was using rotating forks on a fork lift truck 30 years ago to empty 1 ton boxes of potatoes into a bulk wagon they ccarried 20 tons
Yep they’ve been around a while for applications like that. Not so much for a compact tractor
They could save some weight if they removed the back rail of the forks. Make them to just add forks.

Wow - smart equipment ! One question please - how much wood did you have in that tote ? Did you have one face cord ? How do you know how much wood it contains. It’s not piled.
The large 330 gallon totes hold 1/3 cord loose and the small 275 gallon totes hold 1/4 cord loose. I know because I’ve dumped them out and stacked it

Great concept but Overkill in size for your tractor. Get a lighter duty one that does not extend so far. Your tractor will thank you for it. Other then that I wonder why you dont have one yet.

Nice…what is the weight on the pallet folk ? I would have the same concerns if my compact tractor would be able to left it with a tote. FYI, I did reach out to Hydrosplus on the cylinders but at this time they don’t have them for the Kioti tractors. I will play around with my hydraulic oil pressure to see what I can get away with by increasing it slightly, maybe less than 10%. Also Elm City Trailer looks like they will be moving up the road to Bethany. They started to break ground just up the road from me. Regards
So they weren’t here long enough for me to hook them up to the crane scale to weigh but my guess is around 7-800lbs. Yep Elm city is moving, they bought a new lot up that way.
Would getting the pallet forks to fit tight on the IBC tote, negate the need for a support arm?
I don’t think it would negate it but that would certainly help! Unfortunately the adjustment notches on the fork frame didn’t perfectly align with the width of the tote.
The forks will make it easier on you guys, it would be nice if you got a free trial period before making a big purchase, maybe a 40-hour trial?
I could’ve kept them for longer but without the side support arm I didn’t want to continue to use them and risk damaging my loader.
Just get a mx 5200 kubota . But I Will say as I own a lot of diffrent tractors . Your front hubs on that tractor will be the first thing to go . It’s just a bit much for the daily use .
A larger tractor would do me no good out on my residential tree work jobs.
I own a tree service and use my 5100 a good bit .
Interesting....I'm more impressed by to totes handling that load sideways than the rotator it self. Most IBC totes are with wood pallets that degrade over time, so i would be sweating doing something like that with them, but i'm looking into getting batch of metal platform ones. Its just cost of them around here being least 25€ per tote and you never know what shit was in the plastic tote in it self, well as there most likely is some left needing to be removed then flushed and flush water taken to dangerous waste disposal site that is hassle on its own, well as costing after you reach 50liters/kg a year, witch is full rather quickly if you process say 25 totes and no even if its was less problematic chemicals, dumping it to ground is out of the question due close proximity to water sources and fields.
Also our firewood storage is currently total ass, needing stacking due old fools habits instead of dumping them just into corner into pile, but ou well once she cant stack them anymore i'l be rebuilding the storage so pallets can be stacked inside and just drive totes next to house instead hauling them from storage by hand 50meters to house. Mind currently we dont sell firewood, just for 3 house personal use, though after getting firewood processing much easier hauling vise we might look into selling some.
Yeah I’ve never seen any around here with wooden pallet bottoms. All of the ones I get are either metal or plastic bases and quite sturdy. They also all held mulch dye which is organic so no issues with rinsing them out

That was my buddy Sam from way back when I started the channel at his property, he used to be in a lot of the videos.
I think, this heavy duty rotating forks are too much for your tractor. You can get some with a capacity of 3000 pounds, they are about 100 kg lighter than these, so you can lift the ibc easier. In Germany they sell the rotating forks for 1700 Euro, thats about 1850 USD.

I don’t think it will destroy the totes since the weight of the wood is falling out. I’m more concerned with my loader arms! I get the totes for free haha
