Agreed on Samsung fridges. They make great TV's but, not so much on their refrigerators. I've replaced the ice maker in the freezer section and have turned off the one for dispensing ice into a glass. Another water leak type problem that causes it to freeze up with ice on the sides of the maker.
Thanks for a great video. I have a 2011 3 French Door Refrigerator RFG237. After watching your video, I decided to purchase the upgraded replacement clip - which was not recommended for my specific model - but I purchased it anyway. I unplugged the fridge and left it overnight. I worked one side of the panel off quite easily but the left side was not budging. So, I waited until the following morning and the left side of the panel popped off easily. The ice was built up around the clip and was blocking the drain. I removed the buld of the ice and let the chuck around the clip melt on its own. Despite that, there was some residual ice in the drain that prevented the replacement clip from dropping in - so I used a syringe and squirted some hot water into the drain, and after a few minutes the remaining ice melted and the clip nicely fit in. Thanks again for your excellent instructions.

Good video! I would add that when on a repair job with ice blockage in a fridge or freezer drain, myself and most homeowners don't stock an extra long heating clip. What I have with me that works universally and is FREE is a piece of 14 gauge electrical wire. I strip off all the sheathing, cut to length so it wraps 2-3X around defront heater element, sticks down in the drain hole far enough but not so far as to touch any drain nipple below and centered. The bare copper wire conducts well to transfer heat for keeping ice from forming in the tube. Lastly, this repair won't solve the problem if the drain nipple is blocked/clogged below as the water will still backup. One has to first determine if the blockage is caused by a clogged nipple or ice blockage. A clogged nipple problem can be easily solved without even opening the fridge or freezer entering the lower back of the unit by pulling it off and examining it.

If you put the tang of the clip down into the drain hole, you can slide the whole thing up and over the coolant line from the back. Then bend the two end clips up. Thanks for this excellent reference guide. Edit: Forgot to add that tin snips work great to remove the old drain spout. Clip it just below the rivet, twist the front tab up and the rivet drips out. In my case it went down to the freezer. Haven't found it yet.

Inherited this model with the house. What a nightmare. Between this issue and the ice maker freezing up I’m hoping this does the trick. Left it unplugged for 48 hours. Only issue was finding where to loosen coil. Standard wire cutters directly into rivet on each sides popped small probe right out. Thanks for a well done video.
Thank you for posting this video, just replaced this clip today so curious to see how long it will last. The amount of ice built up behind the panel was insane, thawed it with a hairdryer.
Next time just go to the circuit breaker and shut the refrigerator off for about four hours. That will melt ice. Turn back on. Don’t worry your food will be fine just don’t keep opening the door. I do it when I’m going out for a few hours. When it builds up again do it over. I’ve been doing that for years.
Why remove the old clip though? I'd put the new one on top of it. More heat conducting metal. Plus is this going to prevent the ice ball from forming at the top? I kind of doubt it.
Thanks for the video. I had a tough time getting the bottom center screw out. it had rusted and was rotating free with plastic nut. Eventually I had to drill it out. In my case the heater had a bend towards bottom, so the replacemet clip had to be shortened in order to fit. After I got the bottom center plastic nut out, I ended up installing a drywall plastic butterfly anchor for the bottom center screw, which worked perfect.
I think a great video. I need to do this operation so it was hopeful. Other videos I have seen pull out the frig and install new drain pipes accessed from the rear. which took a few minutes to do. Sort of a preemptive strike in the case of the drain tubes giving a problem later on. Once again. thank you. I will do an update after I get it up and running after the repair. Thanks
Never ever buy a Samsung refrigerator again, tons of troubles. Warranty is a lie, service requests are sent to a partner company and cost you legs and arms for servicing a unrepairable trash 😢😢😢
Thanks for the video. Just did mine this morning. My factory installed clip had absolutely no piece of metal in the drain pipe so very hopeful this will take care of the problem forever now.
Thanks for the video, it was really helpful! I followed your instructions only to find that someone had already installed that longer clip on the coil in the back of my inherited fridge! And it was still all icy back there and I have to empty water out of the crisper drawers about every other day. Is there anything else that can be done?
Very nice video, thank you for uploading. My Samsung, similar to the one from the video having the same symptoms currently, freezing bottom drawer to the plastic cover of the fridge. It never did so for 10 years of my ownership. The question: If I just de-freeze the unit for 24 hours, without replacing the metal clip in defroster? Will it cure the issue for the time been?
I have a Samsung bottom freezer ref., model # RB195ACWP. I'm in the process of defrost mode, and replacing drain clip to resolve water pooling below crisper drawers in fridge. I'm also having an issue with the ice maker (located in freezer) not getting supplied water because of frozen water supply line. Will replacing drain clip resolve this issue as well, or is there another way to keep the ice maker supply line from freezing. Thanks for any guidance on this.
Not sure on the line freezing up, haven't had that issue before. Might want to contact Samsung and see if it's a known issue with that model. I don't know if replacing the drain clip will resolve the issue.
I went ahead with defrost, replaced clip, and it thawed the ice maker supply line. Ice maker is working for now! So far so good. Video was very helpful. I'll contact samsung as you suggested if the ice maker freezes up again. Thanks again!
I am going to try to fix ours can please give me the part info that you got from amazon. I really appreciate your demo and very impressive. Thank you so much
Thanks for showing the demo mode and taking that evaporator apart. The root problem need not be icing. Any tube that's moist every day will grow mold and mildew. That clog slowing the drain leads to the ice at the top. Pour hot, bleach water down that, or blow it out with compressed air. The extra heat device is an interesting idea, but can't fix a no pressure's hose want to clog. Cup of bleach once a year should be standard maintenance on all these drawer freezer models.
Good video, but a few points: The aluminum fins are very sharp! Be very careful and make slow, deliberate motions or will leave blood spots. They sent me the wrong fixer clip, way different. I made a usable substitute from 6 Inches of #12 house wire. Be careful with the aluminum pipes. They are thin and if you puncture one the whole evaporator and Freon charge needs to be replaced. Keep watching to see what happens with the class action lawsuit related to these fridges.
I have this same problem, the same as you and many, many others and not just this model. This is just a testament to the engineering and quality of Samsung in my opinion as well as their lack of willingness to improve. I always have a lifetime guarantee for products like this (I'll never buy Samsung again in my lifetime). What an expensive lesson, I'm not optimistic I'll find anything better with their competition. In their race to manufacture the cheapest, companies reap the rewards and we and the environment suffer the loss.
@@christienordhielm2949when the filter element or filter head is leaking the water will come out right underneath the filter housing and drip into the bottom drawer. The water dripping from the back wall it will come out against the back you can tell by putting some paper towels back there behind the two crisper drawers and see if they get wet first
After turning the Samsung refrigerator off for 24 hours, assuming that would melt any ice buildup, I still have water dripping to the underside of the crisper. Any ideas on what else may be causing this?
Good video for fixing ice build up in vaparator. If the fan is cozen and get burned you have to replace a whole panel. It costs arm and leg . It happen to me twice. The product is defective. No more Samsung for me .
WAIT! Check the drain tube behind the floor panel at the back of the fridge! Especially if yours is older. Our 10 year old 4 door french Samsung used the old style rubber "duck bill" check valve that hardened in the closed position and was the reason for water under the crisper. Would not let defrost water through. The rubber cracked into multiple pieces when pressed. The current replacement valve/tube is a different design that probably does not have the issue. Replace if yours is the old style. Old valve/tube pull right off and redesign version pushes right back on. About $15.
Is there any water supply tube behind the fridge that is connected to the wall or floor, such that I need to be cautious about not breaking it while pulling the fridge out?
@@katesmith9960 If your fridge has a working icemaker or dispenses water, then yes there is a water supply tube. Usually this is by a flexible hose to a valve at the wall that will extend far enough to move your fridge. And if still concerned use a flashlight and mirror to locate the tube behind the fridge and to monitor as you pull the fridge out.
Note about turning back on after fully thawed and at room temperature (my refrigerator is Samsung RF4287HARS): After servicing both the refrigerator section (installing kit* for insulation strips on the aluminum pan behind the evaporator, a new heater clip that extends further into the drain hole, and two new drain tubes at lower back of refrigerator), and the lower freezer section (removing the cover over the evaporator for inspection and assurance that the heater clip is properly in the drain hole - mine was misaligned from factory installation), note the following: I had my refrigerator unplugged for 24 hours, all food removed, doors open. Upon plugging it back in, I was initially very concerned because only the refrigerator was beginning to cool back down and the freezer was not. I tried two methods of reset: 1. Reset the refrigerator by pressing and holding for over 5 seconds the ‘Power Freeze’ and ‘Power Cool’ buttons simultaneously until the panel started flashing (some models may chime). 2. Reset the whole refrigerator by unplugging the refrigerator for 5 minutes and then plug back in. I then just had to be patient. Turns out, the refrigerator had to cool down first, almost to my temperature setting (34 F) and THEN the freezer began to cool and within a few more hours it slowly reached my setting (-4 F). (Reset step #1 above should be all you need to try.) * This kit was available from Amazon; Search “DA82-01415A Refrigerator Water Leak Service Repair Kit Compatible with Samsung Water Leakage Assembly Replacement Parts DA82-01415A, AP5957964, PS1005968“. I am going to coat the aluminum clip with thermal paste from cpu fan's silver toothpaste. the tabs on the end wrapped around the black heater the snugger they are ,around the tube the warmer they will get.

Really depends on where you are located. To have appliance repair company come and do it where I am, probably between 300 and 400. Definitely going to vary based on location though.
I just performed the repair. The clip did not fit well and I had to trim it down for it to sit properly. Most of the challenge is defrosting the fridge first and transferring all the food safely for 24hrs. I have my doubts that this will fix the issue since the ice forms at the top and works its way down but who knows. Maybe it will buy me a few months. Tip: there is a screw that is hidden behind a plastic piece at the top of the metal bar in the middle of the plastic cover. Took me a minute to figure out why I could not get the entire cover off.
Did it fix your issue? I too had to trim the new part down as the drain takes an immediate left turn and the new piece was too long. Didn’t work for me and it’s still icing up with the new trimmed piece in place. Not sure what’s next!
@@brennanjohnstone949 So far it has not re-iced and no water dripping. However, it's only been about 3 months and it may just take awhile for the ice to build back up on mine.
Thanks
Thank you for the video. Definitely helped me out Diagnosed the issue. I really appreciate the link for the part!
This worked and I had exactly the same issue. Frozen drain line. What a bad design! Thank you so much
Very good instructional video! 👍🏼
Never ever buy a Samsung refrigerator again, tons of troubles. Warranty is a lie, service requests are sent to a partner company and cost you legs and arms for servicing a unrepairable trash 😢😢😢
This worked beautifully. Thank you.
Great video
But please share link for drain clip
I appreciate the feedback

Very nice video, thank you for uploading. My Samsung, similar to the one from the video having the same symptoms currently, freezing bottom drawer to the plastic cover of the fridge. It never did so for 10 years of my ownership. The question: If I just de-freeze the unit for 24 hours, without replacing the metal clip in defroster? Will it cure the issue for the time been?
Thanks. Couldn't figure out what was causing the water under the crispers
We had ours since 2008 and this the first time I’ve had to do a RUclips fix it.
@@HomeRepairHub ok. appreciate the video!
I went ahead with defrost, replaced clip, and it thawed the ice maker supply line. Ice maker is working for now! So far so good. Video was very helpful.
I'll contact samsung as you suggested if the ice maker freezes up again. Thanks again!
Is there an option to defrost the fridge cooling element like the ice maker ?
Thank you my friend. Very helpful!
I am going to try to fix ours can please give me the part info that you got from amazon. I really appreciate your demo and very impressive. Thank you so much
Does this drain clip compatiable to model rf28hmedbsr? If so I will purchase it from amazon. Thanks again
The part is listed in the description. Yes, that is the same Fridge in the video
Good video, but a few points:
The aluminum fins are very sharp!
Hey man whats the name of that small metal piece that you just bought from amazon? I have the same problem on my fridge . Thanks man
amzn.to/31oB5gv
Thanks man
I have this same problem, the same as you and many, many others and not just this model.
I have a 2012 Samsung French Door model number RF260BEAESR, Twin Cooling Plus with the same problem. Will this clip fit my refrig?
Thank you sooo so so much for this video!!!!!!!
Does this fix the water forming under the twin cooling plus sign? Always have water droplets on that back panel. Ty
Make sure it's not your water filter that's leaking first! This happened to me today..worth checking before you gut your fridge
Damn...hope that's not the case with mine. Are u talking about the actual filter or the filter housing?
How can you tell if the water filter is the problem? We started experiencing leaks after I replaced the water filter
@@christienordhielm2949when the filter element or filter head is leaking the water will come out right underneath the filter housing and drip into the bottom drawer. The water dripping from the back wall it will come out against the back you can tell by putting some paper towels back there behind the two crisper drawers and see if they get wet first
I too am one of the many unfortunate people who own a Samsung fridge.
I had a Bosch fridge that was flawless for 12 years.
I’m looking to purchase this part. We just cleaned out water and ice blocks under the pantry.
Are you still issue-free after 1 year? Thanks so much!
After turning the Samsung refrigerator off for 24 hours, assuming that would melt any ice buildup, I still have water dripping to the underside of the crisper. Any ideas on what else may be causing this?
Does putting it in demo mode shut off the freezer too?
Yes
What if the piece inside the drain hole touches plastic and heats up? Will it melt the plastic and cause a bigger issue?
Or just cut the duck bill off so it's open. That's what our repairman did. Still no water ... fridge compartment freezes everything yet.
Thank you very much for the info
Thank you for helping out
Note about turning back on after fully thawed and at room temperature (my refrigerator is Samsung RF4287HARS): After servicing both the refrigerator section (installing kit* for insulation strips on the aluminum pan behind the evaporator, a new heater clip that extends further into the drain hole, and two new drain tubes at lower back of refrigerator), and the lower freezer section (removing the cover over the evaporator for inspection and assurance that the heater clip is properly in the drain hole - mine was misaligned from factory installation), note the following: I had my refrigerator unplugged for 24 hours, all food removed, doors open. (Reset step #1 above should be all you need to try.)
* This kit was available from Amazon; Search “DA82-01415A Refrigerator Water Leak Service Repair Kit Compatible with Samsung Water Leakage Assembly Replacement Parts DA82-01415A, AP5957964, PS1005968“. This fit my Samsung RF4287HARS refrigerator.
Great video. Thank you.
Make sure ur water filter dnt have cracks and the rubber seal properly seated too.
I wonder if I could just connect a long piece of small copper wire to the old clip and heat line then down into the drain hole?
Yes you can.
I was thinking the same thing, copper wires are great heat conductors.
hi My samsung fridge compartment model SR510LSTC has water coming down the light and dripping on door when closed. Samsung has no idea why lol.
Any ideas?
+DIY HOME repair has that peice held up done what your suppose to do never again this ice problem?
I have the same refrigerator mines is melting the ice is that the same problem?
I Am not seeing the link for the replacement heating probe that you got from Amazon. Do you happen to have a part number? Thanks,
Dennis
amzn.to/31oB5gv
I put the new one after taking off the old one, but the problem isn't solved. Any suggestions?
Never buy a Samsung refrigerator. They are the worst. They should stick to computer parts
agreed. I have had nothing but trouble.
Mine is branded GE but it’s really made by Samsung
That's so true.
Samsung sucks
Garbage/samsung refrigerator
What is the name of the piece of metal that you put on the drin to exit water?
There is a link in the description
Very helpful thank you
That is awsome thank you. Do u have a link for the part? And my ice maker is frozen. Is that just a new ice maker being neede
Link in the description
What if it froze so bad it expanded and torn the white liner. I can seal it for now,but just wondering
Great vid, thank you
Thank you. We tried it last month but again same problem we are facing. Did you have same ice and water problem after changing clip?
I put that exact replacement piece in ours and it didn’t solve the problem. Drains are clear. Not sure what to do next.
What else what would make the evaporator ice up. Besides cleaning the coils. Would the Styrofoam crack cause ice buildup?
Appreciate the video. Sub earned!
Your link to Walmart shows a different clip than the one you used in the video.
Excellent
I did this last weekend and now it's freezing up again. I guess it's time for a new refrigerator. You'd think with so many issues that they'd offer a free service to permanently fix.
I’m having this issue right, it work great for 5 years
So drain line…where does it drain to? I have a supply line for the ice maker, but not seeing anywhere that it drains to pvc drain line in my house. Does it drain somewhere to evaporate?
drain line is in back. Basically the water runs down to the bottom of the fridge and evaporates. But it will depend a little on the type of fridge.
I am going to coat the aluminum clip with thermal paste from cpu fan's silver toothpaste. the tabs on the end wrapped around the black heater the snugger they are ,around the tube the warmer they will get.
thank you!
THANKS
Just want to come here and say thank you bro! I followed your instructions to a T and it 100% fixed my leak!! TBH it was a bitch getting the 2 long screws out but that's cause I attempted it with a shitty manual screw driver. I definitely recommend a power drill! But yeah thanks man! Definitely subbed! You're the best!! 👊
What if the fan isn’t working is that something we should check
That definitely could be part of the problem
I changed clip and drains. Still freezing up. Thoughts?
ruclips.net/video/So1Zf-yIj94/видео.html, I haven't done all this yet. If you do please let me know if it resolves the issue fully.
My does too and I changed the drain thing
I did the same and replaced my defrost sensor and temperature sensor at the same time. No more issues for over a year.
How much would you estimate this repair costs if hire someone?
Really depends on where you are located. To have appliance repair company come and do it where I am, probably between 300 and 400. Definitely going to vary based on location though.
I need order that part What's part number from Amazon please thank you
amzn.to/31oB5gv
I have water under my crisper right now, guess I'm going to have to do this also.
Also, my ice maker is in the bottom freezer pull out. Nothing on the front of the door for mine. Those seem to ice up worse based on my brother's experience. Poor guy has been taking a chisel to his every week or so.
My fridge is exactly like yours, and I'm having same issues. I am currently in a process to replace the clip but was wondering whether replacing the clip resolved the issue permanently since you have done long ago? I have seen other vids where they replaced the drain tubes as well... I hope I do not have to do so
I replaced the clip which helped for a few months. Now I have ice forming under the drawers - not just water as before. So I haven’t pulled the panel yet to see what’s going on this time. I hate Samsung.
@@arlenerobbins4469 what did u find to be the problem. I replaced clip too and still have icing under the thin drawer.
@@arlenerobbins4469 We'll never buy Samsung fridge/appliances again. Great for phones not for appliances. Whirlpool going forward based on Consumer Reports warranty claims data.
@@arlenerobbins4469 if you previously had water where you now have ice that sounds like you may have just changed the temp in the fridge
What a magnificent piece of junk those Samsung fridges are ! Nothing but problems. From the ice auger freezing, to the fan noise due to ice build up and now water under the crisp tray. Thank you for the instructions !
Many still have a giant ice ball forming at the top. Look on RUclips for how to address that. These have many issues
When we moved into our house we inherited a Samsung French door icebox. That’s been 2yrs ago and I’ve always had this problem. I just took the tray out every so often and removed the ice.. 6 months ago we changed our sink but my son-in-law didn’t hookup the water line for the ice maker. Now that it’s hooked up again my ice maker isn’t working anymore! It’s back to freezing up again under the crisper but no ice. Would that 6 month setup have anything to do with the ice maker not working? It’s not frozen, I’ve ran it through every cycle there is, still nothing!! Any thoughts or suggestions?
How old is the fridge? You tried defrost correct? There is a button on the ice maker, have you tried holding that down till it beeps? That should reset the ice maker?

@@HomeRepairHub after I try getting ice of course there’s no ice but I heard that ice Maker turn like it used to do when I had ice! My wife’s sister bought it on Facebook Marketplace with no paperwork. It froze up constantly on them too!! Then we bought it from her sister 2 years ago!! If I had to guess I’d say that icebox is somewhere around 8/10yrs old! If we had paperwork we’d try the Recall ijs it might work but no paperwork we’re the screwed pooch
We did this and it worked for maybe a week. But water started leaking from behind the panel and under the crisper only to freeze back up. So that apparently wasn’t our issue, or wasn’t our ONLY issue.
Thaw it with a hair dryer in an hour on MEDIUM heat for no plastic damage. Remove the drain clip andtake a piece of #14 copper wire and replace it in the drain and wrap over the heat tube. No cost easy fix.
my element is curved not straight like yours so the clip wont lay on it all the way.
I replaced the clip and still issues how to insulate the dam
And I have replaced it with same clip so...what should i insulate the dam with to prevent freezing over any ideas would be awesome
