    7:50 - I think it's more-or-so because of the inconsistency too. We had amazingly high-detailed maps with most of them having crazily cool track designs, even with the first DLC on the WII U offering mostly amazing tracks.
    Then we get this, years later? It's disappointing ykyk. If it already was so simple and low-detailed beforehand, it wouldn't have been the same story.

      Exactly, it feels like a different game. Switching between tracks from the base game and the booster course pass is just so jarring.

    I'm definitely excited to get something more out of a mainline Mario Kart game after way too long, but I agree that this first wave is just kind of there. The highlight for me was definitely Ninja Hideaway. It's shocking how good of a track that was considering it came from Tour. Shroom Ridge and Choco Mountain are also a lot of fun, and I will stand by Toad Circuit being a great track. But yeah, Coconut Mall and Tokyo Blur were the weakest links for me. It's obvious that they got the more basic tracks out of the way first for the sake of difficulty and progression, so we're likely gonna see some of the more creative ones soon enough.

  • @NeverSaySandwich1

    Wave 1 was pretty weak. The tracks were missing the pazazz of the DLC track back when they came out initially on the Wii U. Absolutely no zero G sections in any of these tracks and many of them just copy pasted from their iterations in Tour. That being said, Ninja Hideaway is amazing and it is nice to have more tracks in the game. It really sucks that the cars in the parking lot in Coconut Mall don't move. Very lazy

    I was playing tour during recovery from surgery; some of the tracks in there are (IMO) really fun so I think you’ll probably enjoy a good chunk of the rest of the new ones

    I was disappointed to think a big chunk of the levels were gonna be from Tour tbh, like cool we get to experience the tracks
    But they're also from a mobile game
    where a lot of stuff is watered down to make it easier on phone control
    But playing Ninja Hideaway makes me happy enough that at least they can make these Tour tracks fun! I'm more hopeful of what's to come!!

    I think another reason why some of the tracks feel generic is that *none* of them use the anti-gravity mechanic. They can make retro tracks feel so much more unique.

    I'm primarily not impressed of these tracks mainly because I know Nintendo is capable of better.
    Financially they're doing the best they've been in years and they definitely have the resources to revamp these tracks to match the quality of the base game.
    It's just a shame they seem to be going for a more quantity over quality approach which is something I don't associate with Nintendo.

      @@TheSpeedfoever People are allowed to be disappointed with the DLC if they want to be, they shouldn't need to be impressed simply because it's "more DLC", it's disappointing because Nintendo is capable of making the tracks look better than they are already, but they chose not to.

    As a MK Wii fanboy, I disagree on some of your Coconut Mall claims. There may not be as many npcs, but the color choices are downright vibrant and the layout itself is as good as it's ever been. It is an inherently twisty and winding course with an overwhelming amount of boost opportunities. It almost feels like it demands the inward-turning sports bikes it has so many sharp turns. The end stretch with the shyguy cars not moving is a fair criticism though. Personally I think they're a decent hazard you still have to be smart about and maneuver around, but I get it.
    As someone who was extremely skeptical of the Booster Pass, I have to say I'm shocked I enjoy every single course. Yes even Toad Circuit. The first half of it may be easy, but the last portion is super winding with lots of shortcut potential.

  • @PikaPhantomVG
    @PikaPhantomVG 2 года назад +2

    Tokyo Blur is definitely the worst city course in Tour - all the others have more interesting gimmicks or more defined layouts, though I'd also consider Paris and London to be weaker than the others. It seems like they're going to be bringing most, if not all, of the cities in, and I'm much more excited to get the route switching mechanic in a really solid track like Vancouver Velocity or Singapore Speedway

    I'm mixed on the Booster Course Pack. While I did check it out due to having a NSO + Expansion Pack, I'm not too excited for it. I guess a big reason is because it's the same game we've been playing since 2014. I'm just burnt out and would like a new Mario Kart title to be released, but I guess we'll just have to wait until the next Nintendo system for that.

    8:16 "It's also a racing game... so I really don't care."
    For someone who makes their living off talking about games... that sounds a bit disturbing. So because it's just "a racing game", standards of quality suddenly don't matter ? Mario Kart is an event by itself, much more than a simple "graphical showcase" - and treating it as just another standard racing game is a HUGE disservice. If not for the quality, why else play good videogames in the first place ? Why not just stick to Sonic 06 or Candy Crush ? Why not just play a better quality Rom hack cup ?
    It's honestly just insulting to the base game itself, which was a tremendous achievement at the time (both as game itself and for the console it was originally made for) and still widely considered one of Nintendo's best - and the fact that a lot of Nintendo fans are having such a passive reaction is baffling to me. They love complaining about stuff that honestly doesn't matter, but then proceed to lick Nintendo's billion-dollar-boots whenever they throw them an overpriced, shitty bone. Has the bar really gone that low ?

    • @indiejacob
      @indiejacob  2 года назад +3

      First, I don't make a living off of this channel. Haha I do graphic design for a living.
      Second, I absolutely don't disagree with your points. We should push Nintendo to be better, which is why I wasn't exactly giving this DLC a glowing "review".
      I probably could've been a little more clear in my thought process with the graphics. I love racing games but the reason why I love racing games never has to do with the graphics or art direction. For me, it's all about the gameplay, the weight of the controls, the speed, and the satisfaction of winning which is why I love this genre of games so much. The reason why I don't really care if a racing game doesn't have incredible graphics is because the very nature of the genre usually means that you're driving past all those pretty assets and focusing on the task at hand, which is to win.
      Now, that's not to say that art direction doesn't matter at all. One of the reasons why I love Horizon Chase Turbo and Outrun is because of their art styles but that's a secondary kind of love, the gameplay always comes first. A game like Need For Speed: Heat is not all of the sudden made great simply because it looks good. I think that game feels like crap to play which is why I'm not crazy about it.
      To wrap this up, yes, you are correct in that we need to make sure Nintendo doesn't think lazily crapping out content is acceptable. I also just don't think graphics are the main issue with this DLC. I think the pacing of the tracks combined with the lack of the anti-gravity mechanic is a far bigger issue with these new courses.

    Sounds like you have a lot of the same feelings I did, even down to being a bit surprised at how much you enjoyed Shroom Ridge in this one. I like most of these tracks fine, but it IS absolutely noticeable that there’s a dip in quality not just in visuals but in actual track design. That being said, it is great to have new content added to and still coming to MK8. Good game is still damn good, after all, and having an excuse to play more of it isn’t a bad thing. Here’s hoping we see some higher quality stuff down the road. Pun intended.

      We don't care about who is first! Cancer comment! Be more original next time if you can! Unless it's too difficult for someone with no personality like you! I'm more than tired of people still writing the same crap. You're probably going to tell me to ignore this comment, but the problem is that I've been patient for years, genius. The solution would be to have less of this gender of comment. But that's too much to ask for someone like you.
      (Sorry, I'm just countering the arguments that many people gave me.) It's just that it's very tiring to see the same kind of comments. If you have nothing original and relevant to say, then shut up. You can comment whatever you want. It’s just that this ‘joke’ of commenting ‘first’ on every video in existence has gotten so old it’s firmly considered cringe these days. Yeah posting a comment helps the algorithm or whatever, but anybody who comments ‘first’ could just as easily comment ‘Cool!’ And it would at the very least be a nice comment and not just an entirely worthless statement.
      You can post whatever you want, doesn’t mean you should :V You're probably going to tell me this is a long comment, but I have no choice but to put in so much detail or people will use some of these arguments against me. And it's not because I don't have a life that I say I'm tired of seeing "first" comments. Maybe it's you who needs to change and write something more relevant and original instead of always writing the same thing.

    I personally love the Booster Course Pass (I prefer it to a Mario Kart 10 personally). Yes, the graphics are downgraded but I don't really care personally and the only course I straight up hate is GBA Sky Garden for they (in my opinion) ruined my favourite GBA course ever.

    • @SuperPlacido1
      @SuperPlacido1 2 года назад

      I don't understand why you prefer this low quality DLC than a new Mario Kart. Let's compare: First of all with a new Mario Kart: new characters, new vehicles, new modes and new tracks. Now, with the DLC: Tour ported tracks. Wow, this DLC is really a better idea than a new Mario Kart. You are absolutely right! Brilliant!😆👍🤦

    • @dg_777player5
      @dg_777player5 2 года назад

      @@SuperPlacido1 Well, that's why I used the word "personally" since I knew this was an unpopular opinion. I personally prefer to have 96 courses in one package just for an extra 25.99 dollars rather than having to buy another 60 dollar game that would divide the content between two different game. I don't really care about new modes in general (unless they brought back the old Balloon Battle), new characters can easily be added to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe instead and even if they don't I just don't really care either and I'm fine with the current vehicles we have. As for new courses: I would love to receive some new tracks but I kind of prefer retro courses so this was the perfect deal to me (especially since Tour courses are now coming as well). Like I said in my original comment it doesn't affect me at all that the courses come from Tour so for me this was definitely better than a new game. Now I don't have to lose the old courses during marathons and they get mixed together with the new ones.

    • @SuperPlacido1
      @SuperPlacido1 2 года назад

      @@dg_777player5 Yes, but the problem is that the second half of the tracks in 8 Deluxe do not match the style of the base game. So you'd rather have a low-quality DLC than to have those tracks in a new Mario Kart with their own design, so it's not going to clash with a design style. And you do that by using logic and thinking. That's what a brain is for. To think. And I almost forgot to say that this DLC is so BS that Nintendo didn't even think of putting the anti-gravity (the game's mechanics) in these new tracks. So I ask you, how is this DLC made without any effort, just copy and paste from Tour, just with some nothing touch ups without adding any game mechanics better than a new Mario Kart that could have had these tracks better worked and with more novelty? I'm just comparing the pros and cons and a new Mario Kart has more pros than this DLC. And there is nothing to say against this logic. I'm not giving my opinion, I'm just stating the logic of things.

    • @dg_777player5
      @dg_777player5 2 года назад

      @@SuperPlacido1 Don't get me wrong, I agree with the complaints 100% and I really think they should have put a lot more effort on the courses to match the base game ones. On a technical standpoint I can't deny that there is an objective downgrade that could have easily been better. While I agree with the complaints and think the DLC was done lazily I just kinda don't care as this is just what I've been wanting for years out of this series. I can easily overlook graphics (in fact, I kinda like the new style when ignoring some ridiculously low effort stuff like the flowers) and I get to have new classic courses remastered and mixed in with the ones already in the game. To answer your question regarding if I wouldn't rather have these tracks remade better in a new Mario Kart game: yes and no. Yes, I would love these courses to look better and be more faithful to the originals (especially GBA Sky Garden on this one, that remake is just atrocious) but I would rather see that effort being used as DLC for this game rather than them making a brand new entry. Oh and for the antigravity being missing I just don't care at all personally. I can definitely understand and respect your perspective but for me personally I just prefer this approach. Do I think the DLC should be better? Definitely. Do I think it should have been its own game? It could have been but I kinda prefer it staying in 8 Deluxe.
      While this may be the perfect DLC for me do not think for a second that I defend the lazy ports they've made. While it may be good for me since my bar is quite low when it comes to graphics and mechanics I can definitely agree with most complains and I hope they take the criticism to heart and improve on the next cups (don't silence your opinion, spread it and let Nintendo know that they should improve. You are the consumer and you are in the right to be upset about a product you deeply care about).
      By the way, I can sense you are a bit hostile when expressing your opinion (and rightfully so since we diverge a bit in the way we think) but I just want you to know that despite liking this DLC I still am on your side when it comes to agreeing with how lazy the ports were.
