I love seeing great Americans unpleagued by what the media portrays America is and just outshine which true positive American vibes.
Can't always trust the media. We met nothing but wonderful people this whole journey.
“They have cracks in their heads” 😂😂😂 Glad you made lemonade out of lemons.
What else can you do? We waited too long for this trip to not enjoy it! Thanks so much for watching! 😀
Wow... the Chevy ignition wire was just about toast!! Very nice of the Wyomians to give you a hand with the brakes! Smooth sailing from here!!
Yup! Pretty much disintegrated! The folks from Ten Sleep, WY were really nice. Said they get 1-2 RVs per week that stop in the same spot we did.
You have the 6R140 6-speed transmission with TowHaul and Select Shift, TowHaul is both engine brake and a transmission brake as well as it increases transmission cooling. Engauge TowHaul and you won't need to use the brakes as much, it's designed just for down grades like that. If you place the shifter in (M) then you can use the + and - on the shifter to down and upshift. I highly recommend using TowHaul all the towing or not towing on hills and on flat land.
Hey Casual RVer 👋. We had Tow/Haul mode engaged but the grade was exceptionally steep. The kind folks from Ten Sleep, WY were quite helpful and filled us in on how to downshift. Apparently, they get 1-2 RVs per week that stop in the same location we did. As always, you are a wealth of information. Thanks for sharing.
Press tow haul mode or when you going downhill gear down motorhome is heavy always gonna use brake downhill is gonna overheat
Yes, we had tow haul mode but we didn't know to downshift. We won't make that mistake again! Thanks for watching!
So glad you're safe! Take care out there! ~Big C in the DP 📢 ::: Air Horn 📢 ::: ::: Air Breaks! ::: 🚌🚌🚌
Yes! Thank you! This was one big learning experience that's taught us how to be better RVers. Thanks for watching and safe travels!
When I was watching your video I kept thinking those folks don't have this type of terrain where they drive so it's got to be a learning experience for them. When I saw the smoke segment I figured you cooked your brakes. The great part is you are all safe especially on those steep mountain roads. The other great part is hopefully more folks will be aware of how to handle these types of problems while driving a gasser RV. As always you put out great content and seem like some really nice folks. Keep up the great work and safe travels!
Wow! You read the situation so well. The terrain was completely new to us. We had no idea what we were doing. We learned so much and met so many wonderful people on that trip. Thank you!
when you get back home check them brake pads, rotors, we just got back from Hemet California that tow haul didn't hold going down 5,6 percent grade. shift into lower gear and don't ride your brakes too long be safe.
Thanks for the tip! We'll get the RV checked out. Good precautionary measure!
John is "The Man"! Regards and much respect from Maryland! Abe B.
Yes he is!!!!!! 😊. Thanks Abe!
What a great trip 😊🏕
Yes it was! (even with the issues)

Nice, good to see y'all. Subscribed...
Thank you! 😊Welcome to the community!
I’m so frustrated I keep missing your uploads! Glad I caught this one!!😄🎉Super fun as usual!
We're glad you caught it too! 😃
Yes, down shift is your friend.
Most definitely!
I have heard that they do have a problem with this, we traded ours in for a Jayco North Point and are happy we did safe travel.
The Jayco North Point is a really nice 5th wheel. Glad to hear you are happy with it!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices the fifth wheels blowing our doors off on the freeways! 😂 You guys had quite the adventure with Wall Drug, a police chase, mechanical concerns, repairs, teaching moments, beautiful views, learning the quirks of these heavy chassis, wishing you had a nice exhaust brake (I'm sure) and all the rest. 🤣 Great video!
We didn't show the 5th wheel going 95 (speed limit was 80)! Yea...it was quite the adventure on our journey to Yellowstone! More to come!
Hello i miss seeing you guys, enjoy you guys 🎉, wish you were on a lot bit more, love you guys
We plan on making more videos when John retires at the end of the year. We have so much fun sharing! Thanks for joining us on our adventures! 😊❤️
Some of the diesel pushers have the exhaust breaks but if not downshift for sure. We burnt out breaks up nicely in Washington lol
Guess we both learned the hard way! It's relatively flat were we are from and wow what an experience!
I assume you all are towing a vehicle so my suggestion of using the TOW mode probably won't matter. LOL. I am enjoying your videos though!
Yes, we had tow/haul mode on but we didn't know we could use manual mode. Would have made a big difference, So glad you are enjoying our videos. 😀 Safe travels!
Ford chassis aren’t what they used to be. I had 2 Ford Motorhomes both never had a problem back in 1999 and 2004. Both V10s.
My 1999 Storm had the fist V10.
We had fun at Wall Drug too
You should have taken I 90 to US 191 to Yellowstone, safer for a Gas Motorhome
We'll have to remember to take 191 next time. Thanks for sharing!
Did you guys camp on the Badlands BLM land… it’s totally cool and yes you can do it with a class A and generator
We were on an incredibly tight schedule and stopped at the Badlands for only about 4 hours. Next time though we plan to camp there.
Guys I have been following you for a while I have a 2022 Vacationer 35k, mine unit started misfiring and there is a Ford part that the part number ends with a C that is better than the original plug wire. I am replacing mine with a set that is made for nascar that can take all
Of the heat that you can give them. I am going to upgrade my brakes with a set that are also designed for NASCAR that you can have them glowing red and they still work and don’t smoke.
Oh that's great! Didn't realize they made brakes like that! Thanks for sharing!
I had a ford E150 van and Yellowstone was where I first learned to use my overdrive gear because I also started to smell my brakes. I have a ford transit now and it doesn’t have overdrive but it does have manual option and tow haul mode as well.
Glad those kind people stopped to help. That warmed my heart. Looking forward to your next video. You guys are great.
We were so grateful to those folks. They hung out with us on the side of the road for about an hour. Really nice people with good hearts. Thanks so much for watching and following us! 😊❤️
Oh guys I’m so glad you guys made it that was so scary that thing broke apart like that crazy ! Your so lucky to have to handy men 😍Your son is a mixture of you and Juan great to see you guys made it ! Crazy how the breaks smoked I would’ve been a mess you guys are pros ! Great video can’t wait to see the rest of your trip 😊
It was quite an adventure! We never expected so many issues along the way. But, we learned a lot more about our RV in the process. Thanks so much for watching! 😊❤️
Did you get the donuts? They are known for their ramping donuts.
Dagnabbit! We missed out on donuts?
Hello, anyone that owns this same motor 7.3, will have this problem, until you replace all your spark plug wire, order them, keep them with you, I asked to just replace them, they can’t until they go out
Yes! I've heard there is a TSB but they have to go bad. We purchased the 5 remaining wires at the Ford dealership in SD.
What was the mileage when the check engine light came on leading to the discovery of the burned plug wires ?
@@johndoe-ErnestT We just hit 20,000.
@@AmpedtoGlamp thanks for the quick reply. I truly appreciate you guys documenting your experiences especially the problems you encounter and the solutions. Based on what you’ve shared I’m headed to Ted Britt in Chantilly tomorrow for spare 8 plug wires and a serpentine belt. We’re heading from Fredericksburg VA to San Antonio TX in September and want to be prepared.
Sharing a personal experience - we bought a Tiffin Open Road 36LA at the end of May from the same place you guys purchased. It was plagued with problems from major leaks, solar issues, inverter and generator. The dealer in Ashland is of no help. It was to the point I called the Tiffin Service Center for what’s next. They encouraged us to bring it back and let them fix it. We spent 4 weeks, that’s right a full month, pulling in and out of service bays but … they fixed everything and it’s holding together… for now. The place was full of good people in our same predicament regardless of the cost of their coach. It seems the industry is plagued with problems. If you enjoy camping it just takes a lot of resolve to work through the issues. Thanks for the content, keep it coming. I hope the reminder of your trip is uneventful.

Make sure the shroud around the radiator has been modified to allow air to cool the exhaust manifolds, that was in a recall notice.
❤hi family. Question do you need a special license to drive that RV? It's like the size of a bus? Do you need a special license to drive any RV?
Thanks be safe out their
GOD BLESS IN JESUS NAME AMEN
No special license required for our 36 foot RV (22,000lb) in our state. Some states will require a special license if your RV is over 26,000lbs.
Why do yall like Fleetwood over a tiffin or newmar
We were newbies when we bought the Fleetwood and focused more on floor plan than anything else. And, at the time Fleetwood quality wasn't the best but wasn't bad either. What we didn't know is the impact Covid would have on the entire RV industry and we ended up with an infamous Covid coach. We would do things very differently if buying a coach now. We're still not fans of Tiffin or Newmar. They're good quality but just don't suit us. Except maybe the Canyon Star. I'm excited to see the 2025 refresh.
Time for a DP
Yup! 😊
We had a similar issue while traveling through the state of Washington. Our 2022 Winnebago Class A started misfiring. A Saturday afternoon in June, and no dealer for 200 miles worked on anything longer than 28 ft long. We couldn’t find a shop or mobile tech. We traveled 250 miles to find a tech who put the OBD reader on it. Yep, bad wires. 4 days to get them to the small town we were in. Between the tech and me we got them installed like John did.
Anyone with the new 7.3 V8 engine should be aware this is a problem that WILL Happen to you. 2023 engines should have the upgraded ignition wires already.
Your mountain brake issue is not uncommon and very dangerous. We live in the west. My first time mountain driving in my RV was 1996. I did the same thing. The new ford trans with paddle shifter makes it much safer and easier once you know how to take advantage of it.
So happy things turned out ok.
Thank you for your videos.
Sorry to hear you went through the same thing. Ford should really make this a recall and not just a TSB. You can submit your receipts to Ford for reimbursement. Let me know if you need the info.
We learn something new with every trip. We'll be making good use of the manual lever next time we head out west.
@@AmpedtoGlamp thank you for the reply. I would love the information on how to submit my receipts to Ford for reimbursement. When I asked the Ford repair dealer in Oregon and the one in Phoenix they didn’t appear aware. Thank you.
And we do enjoy your channel. We’ve been RV’ing for over 30 years and still enjoy the lifestyle.
As soon as you said brake smell, I wondered if you had downshifted for the hills and let the engine compression do the some of the work for you. It's more of "an out West" thing drivers learn I thinks because of he mountain ranges.
We got our "out West" training the hard way 😅. But we know to downshift for next time. Safe travels!
What a trip! Have you ever had a break down in the middle of nowhere? Check out Facing Fears🔥ruclips.net/video/L9LNb5GtR5c/видео.htmlsi=R8XFWNV8-uYy-zMB🔥
We have had several breakdowns in remote areas.l and here are a few. Owned 8 motorhomes since the late 80’s. 7 we’re class C’s. Dirt road boondocking in Arizona and had a radiator hose go. Was able to cut the leaking end, pull tighter and re-attached. Another time we
lost a fan belt on a small canyon road in the 90’s. Luckily a Sheriff’s Deputy came along, drove me into town, waited while I got a new belt, and drove me back to our rig.
The class C’s in those days were much easier to work on than our A. Last year while driving between towns in West Texas my friend realized his leveling jacks pump assembly was hanging down. Bracket broke. We ratchet strapped it back in place until we found a Mobil oil field welder who helped us out and we were up and running. There are lots of helpful people on the roads.
OMG….If John was not an RV mechanic when you started Rv’ing, he has to officially be one by now, after dealing with the RV formerly known as Trouble. See ya at Chincoteague!
Yup! He's a real pro now! See ya in Chincoteague!
Wow... it looks like the "Insane Asylum" is earning its name more and more in every video! Come on, from crazy drivers, witnessing a police pursuit (by the way the 5 foot long thing was probably tire spikes thrown by the police) repair issues with that temporary repair wire crumbling, then amazing views, and then burning brakes, and then finding a herd of super cool people and then John gets a little schooling from the locals... I mean, if that is not a case for "Insane Asylum" I don't know what is! I know, you probably want a single word name for that machine... but dang! So glad you are getting this all worked out. I guess it is time for me to find a shorter word for insane asylum!
Safe travels!
🤣🤣🤣 John and I couldn't stop laughing after reading your comment!!!! Pinning this one!
