Since I expect it may come up somewhere in the comments...
"112k in an hour, not bad" isn't trying to say that 112k is a large amount to earn in an hour (it definitely isn't!), it's just one of my quaint little British mutterings and mannerisms. This is just a gameplay video, not a guide, not a tutorial, and certainly not min-maxing. I had a nice time mining for an hour, and was comfortable with a small payoff for doing so. Not bad...
Otherwise, enjoy! :D
LoL, I was one of the the ones last time who mentioned the low pay outs, haha. So I'll keep quiet this time! You are absolutely correct, it's an enjoyable experience and you make a few space bucks at it... what could be better? One "slight" upgrade that makes the Prospector a little more profitable, is putting the Mole bags on the Prospector. ;o)
MOLE averages 300-600k per hour solo in comparison. Fully outfitted with custom lasers and also using gadgets at random times. +1
100%. The real payout for a Prospector run is the chill time.
Great video friend, no doubts. Watching your video and listening to your voice chills me out! (I guess for others too). BTW mole pod exchange stills works, which surely will increase your income per invested time ;-)
The Vulture isn’t much use with the cargo exploit being abused right now. Too many people are making the RMC run and TDDs are always maxed out. Actually all cargo is screwed until they fix the bug. Prospector mining is the best chill alternative right now.
Love some relaxing mining to work alongside. Thanks man!
I agree fully with your outlook on Prospect mining. I am not super interested in min/maxing, just a relaxing activity that makes money.
Great vid, I have been looking back and enjoying your previous videos as well. Please keep up the good work
Finally, a TRUE picture of what you`d earn mining with a Prospector. As a new player with just 200k of aUEC, I was looking at various youtube videos on how to make money with mining, and some heavily and falsely inflated claims in other RUclips videos (anything between 200 - 600K per hours they said) led me to try mining with a rented Prospector... I could barely make 60k per hour since I had to sell ore instead of processing it because I dont have a ship to transport it and the time it takes. I wish I did come across this video 2 days ago. I might get back to mining when I can afford an upgraded Prospector of my own and a transport ship, but as of now, I need to pick up the speed at making money and a rented Prospector at 70k per day, was not efficient at all for me at this stage.
I was about to be in a similar boat as you (started two weeks ago). One player in the game suggested I do a few of those 34k investigation missions to earn enough to rent the prospector. After you have done a few loads to refine, go back and do a few missions while waiting for the refinery to do its work. Then rent a cargo ship like the cutlass black or the relancer (I think it's called?) And use that rented ship to go out and sell your fully refined loads. With that loop you will be making enough to rent the prospector again for more loads. Also having the money to rent a bigger cargo ship to take and sell more loads at a time. After doing that loop a bit you will have enough to buy your mining ship or cargo ship.
I'm doing it and am 3/4 to buying and upgrading a prospector before buying a bigger ship than my cutlass
I did move back from salvage to mining. Somehow the peace and quiet of the Aaron ring is beating the otherwise enjoyable power wash sim scraping. Somehow the mining, refining, delivering loop has me more hooked ^^ awesome video as always.
Pro tip: run your mining head at 100% and use the gimbal function to "feather" it on and off the rock your trying to bust when it gets into the green zone. To adjust effective power applied simply back off. You can actually bust gem rocks intended for hand or roc mining with the prospector at close to max distance and 1% power, again feathering off and on.
Not arguing but not sure I understand the 100% trick when you can mouse wheel power up and down to find that sweet spot where it just stays in green?
@@sicecko because the rocks that contain the good stuff are typically unstable, making it very difficult to keep the power in the green using mouse wheel adjustment without overheating and having the rock explode. It's just too slow. With the mining laser on the gimbal you just move the laser off the rock and keep the ship stationary when it starts to become unstable, That literally takes a split second, when the temp starts to drop, you can move it back on, again in less than a second.
The flaps lever on the T-50CM3 throttle is perfect for mining laser power. I have been using it for quite a while now
It really is!
Thank you for the video! Mining is so relaxing, and watching it with commentary is no diferent. I haven't tried it in this update yet, but I plan to start soon.
Solid work. Impressed that it was a stock Prospector. I'll have to do a mining session once I have some free time. Thanks for sharing the video, Farrister!
In 3.21 and 3.22 I've tried both mining (Prospector) and salvaging (Vulture), but personally I find mining with my Prospector just much more FUN to do. The searching for ore containing rocks, the scanning, the excitement when you find good stuff in a rock that is small enough to break, the extracting of the goods and returning home with the bags full with a decent percentage of good ores. Then going to the Refinery and sending in the ores for refinement, to collect them after they've finished, and finally selling the refined ores at a TDD or CBD. It's a really nice game loop and personally for me, much more fulfilling than salvaging in the Vulture.
Always great to see the chill mining experience being enjoyed. Even better when narrated so expertly.
If I may give a tip, to find Lagrange stations om the starmap. Select the main L-point and then type "station" into the search bar. Usually much faster than trying to manually find it among all the other location markers.
Brilliant! I didnt think of that!
Once you know the name of the station, it is sufficient to open the star map and enter e.g. “ambitious” in the search bar.
Farrister, thanks again for another beautiful video! I love mining with the prospector - it is really relaxing after work.
Relaxing activity for me. The only thing I attend to is a 50% or better ratio on the more valuable ores. But I never get bored of this activity.
50% ratio seems to make sense :)
First of, thanks alot for your relaxing videos. Keep it up!
Alot of ppl will value the uec/hour above gameplay and therefor prefer to molo (solo in the mole) or are salvaging currently.
For me the gameloops tied to mining are very pleasing to do and i will come back to it no matter what.
You will start to see ppl come back to it when the mining missions will be released and there will be more profit in it.
Molo xD love it
Been really looking forward to the mining aspect of the game, have only been playing for 5 days now so still grinding to get the prospector, but good to see how it can also work in a chill setting while not always stressing about getting the best :) Keep up the good vids man!
Welcome to the verse! Honestly, mining in a ROC can be just as rewarding as mining in a Prospector. Once you get to the point where you can rent a Cutty Black and an ROC, if you haven't already, you'll quickly make enough aUEC to rent a Prospector. I own both and still routinely take the ROC out. It's a pretty good way to have some relaxing time in game and still have at least a little something to show for it at the end of the day.
@@schakTheNerd Personally, I find ROC mining a bit tedious. Finding and popping rocks are fun, but trying to collect..... it takes FOREVER and the darned gems fly all over the place- and the Hoover mode is pretty finicky...
It does have the benefit of being a quicker return, but I can make more- after refining time- with a Prospector
Thank´s a lot for this video I enjoyed! Mining looks nice for me, and thought: I think gonna love this job to do in SC, I can afford the Prospector, but when I saw you also need at least a medium freighter... oh no! No way ;(
Wonderful video. Thank you
Makes me ready to drop the salvage gig and go out mining again!
After you’ve made your money salvaging you can lay back and do relaxing mining 😊 roc mining is hella fun when you don’t blow yourself up 😂
Here's me just playing the game to have fun :D
I feel like I enjoy roc mining but I wish that the roc did better on hills and wasn't such a pain to put in and out of my cutlass. I feel the wheels drop below the deck and gets itself twisted
V from RUclips channel #spaceshorts did a video on using mole bags on the prospector. It’s a quick and easy upgrade to give the prospector a bit more storage.
I love the nice relaxing gameplay videos!
Im more impressed on how smooth your FPS look like. holy I wish..
I have not been mining yet. I would grab what I can. For me It's better to do more trips getting what you can instead of One long run trying to find the best stuff, Cause it all sells!!! Seems more effective Min/Max.
It is all about enjoying the game in my opinion, because the progress gets anyway reset all the time, so have fun in SC is what does the trick for me.
I don't have a mining ship yet. But I agree fun is more important than maxing money.
Thanks for the video, I am more like you Farrister… I mean I mine and actually play SC for low stress so I am not about the max profits. I try to be efficient but not at cost of enjoyment… cheers mate!
What is your music playlist? Made everything so zen
It's all profit, for the effort made, it's all ok. Plus you have the Zen of peaceful Mining at your leisure.
Precisely!
Id like to see more mining
Great video. Thanks. I find that I can make more gem mining, than prospector mining, especially if I go for Hadanite, with maybe some dolivine. Thoughts?
Interesting - will have to give it a try! Been hitting combat a lot harder in 3.23 due to the MM changes so I've been a bit slower at some of the other loops
I actually look forward to commodities and ores being more balanced, so it actually makes sense to mine whatever you find, and you earn a bit more or less, but still fun and enjoyable and hit a jackpot once in awhile, but i really don't like mining when i feel compelled to search for the "perfect rock", it especially feels bad when you finally find one and its too big to crack.....etc
👍
Are you talking about the Virpil slider for mining? Love it.
Yeah, who needs flaps in SC xD
@@Farrister I currently use that slider for my speed limiter. Can this be double functioned? If not, what are you using for your speed limiter? I have the Virpil CM3 Throttle on left.
@@henryvaneyk3769 I also have the throttle on left. I use grip button for speed limiter, I have a recent video on channel where I go through my controls in detail :):
@@henryvaneyk3769 there's zero way you're PvPing with that lol??
haven't tried ship mining in years because every time i tried i had really bad luck in either finding no good rocks or finding ones that where uncrackable with a rented stock version.
now hand mining I do like to bad caves are such a pain to deal with.
I'm a little more easy going these days about what rocks I mine, rather than only looking for the most profitable
I saw an article the other day saying star citizen had hit a new major milestone on funding with no release date in sight, and it got me curious on game dev costs in general. You know what games are up there in similar cost to Star Citizen? In no particular order, Genshin Impact, Cyberpunk 2077, and... Monopoly Go.
I personally like to do semi mid maxing while mining, but I totally get how some people just wanna break stuff and leave. However, if you pack a chainsaw, I don't think it will be very effective against the rocks you mine.
Each to their own!
Are the gadgets working for you? I can’t place them on the rocks. My char is walking backwards by trying to place them….
I use gadgets all the time, no issues with any of them. They work great.
@@zolmazzoboto6085 thx for the response. 3.23.1 I assume, right?
they don't work in space atm. when on a moon, keep trying. just store it and pull it out again, then try again. eventually it will fit
@@gabrielg.e.j9060 thx for your response. I can’t even store them in my backpack, only in the ships itself. Says not sufficient volume / red… e.g. optimax
@@muhlaka123 I can fit them in heavy and medium backpacks easily. No issues, and one can also be stored at the bottom outside of the backpack.
Do you record on the same PC you play on?
I do! ShadowPlay record and then edit later
@@Farrister The quality is so good! Do you mind sharing your settings? Do you compress your videos before you upload to RUclips to make it faster or do you just upload what ShadowPlay puts out?
I was thinking of making a presentation video to get my friends into the game haha
@@photogasm5 I heavily edit and publish to a RUclips friendly format, which does modify bitrate etc. I use the settings from the Google suggested settings for h264 video uploads - away from PC right now so can't check!
The reason why the Prospector is more comfortable to use than the Mole is because of all these annoying animations where the game takes away control from the player character for several seconds each time, multiplied by xx to xxx times per play session. It's one of the great gameplay flaws of Star Citizen and CiG has not understood this flaw yet. Taking away player control (ESPECIALLY in an MMO) = bad! And it's done very often in SC: get in/out of a seat, climb in/out of a fighter, climb up/down a ladder etc.
I'm very disappointed that gimble no longer works on the mining head
I can't say I ever used it :(
Ok, now I'm jealous. I've been trying for a couple days to have one of these chill gaming sessions, but whatever they did to the scanning mechanic, nothing appears on my pings. And if I'm lucky after 30 or so minutes and get an "unknown" off in the distance, when I hit the ping again, it vanishes, never to return. I spent 1.5 hours last night searching multiple moons and found not a single thing to mine. I tried gem mining with my Roc and Freelancer, and still nothing pinged. Though if I got in my Roc, I can ping gems and rocks. Second I'm back in my ship, pings are gone.
Might look to this more as RMC is just too plentiful at each of the TDD's. Hard to salvage right now :(
Salvaging just very popular!
From what I seen in global chat theres a bug people are abusing to dupe rmc.
Is scanning broken this patch? Really not working for me...
It works very differently from last patch, I think
Mining needs large price buff when you have to wait hours for the refining jobs! Why do mining when you can make twice as much with no waiting in a Vulture?
Painters don't get paid waiting 24 hours for paint to dry. And what employer pays you throughout the day minute by minute as you work?
@@zolmazzoboto6085 :D
@@zolmazzoboto6085strippers? 😝
Well just because The Pau isn’t immediate doesn’t mean It’s bit worth it. It doesn’t make a difference If youre paid now or later
Why mine? Ideally because you enjoy the gameplay
As a new (and free) player i found it difficult to make any money at all without slaving myaelf to other players. It would be nice if there were mini starter versions or a " career" choice at the start of the game so that you could get ibto the kind of content you like.
There are! It's a little counter intuitive, but the mining career path typically starts with investigation contracts that take you to a cave. Make sure you have a multi-tool with mining attachment and that you're wearing at least the Aril Core and associated backpack so you have enough storage space. You're really only taking the investigation to find the cave. Once in, look for rocks with purple gems. Take out the multi-tool and ADS to scan it. If it's Hadanite, break the rock and pick up the gems. Once your backpack is full, head to an Admin office to sell them.
Mouse wheel for mining sucks. Button box with lever is the only way.
Have a lever on my throttle :)
112K is fine, u using stock Mining laser, without moduls and u just randomly mined the first things u saw.
Its about the fun, not rly the outcome.
I do cringe over your ore selection- getting excited over Gold and saying Taranite "Isnt that bad"- Tara/Bexie is worth more than Gold- and is easier to break and fills you up faster...
But that cringe is my personal feelings
Edit: I'm not offended by you filling up on Titanium- as long as after the fact you're not complaining on not making as much as salvage. Too many people I've interacted with complain that they load up on the Commons and don't make much money- and give up on mining....
Haha the actual gold gets me excited every time! Quanta is still the big money ore in my mind, I guess
First 🎉
I can go do a vulture run with 26 scu of scrap in less than an hour and make 500k
vs trade vs boun ty hunting the time spend no this is very bad payment even if i shoot my self ingame i make more money then that the Scu is to low on the Porspector
offline is lame
