  • It’s taken me a year and a half instead of a year to do this review but I wanted to give these boots the review they needed and my personal opinions on the boot company. Thank you to all the new subscribers and returning subscribers. I hope everyone has a great day and we will see you on the next one.

    Great review. I have had several pairs of Whites and all of them the original packer model with vibram heels and soles. The pair on my feet as I write this were last rebuilt in 1997. They sat years in my closet as I was a framer and needed flatter soles. Now I’m a Construction Superintendent, I have started wearing my old Whites again! I have another pair once owned by my elderly father. Same basic size. I’m going to have Nicks rebuild them and create a pair of Whicks! White uppers and Nicks lowers.

    Good to hear! I bought a custom pair (feet measured in Spokane boot shop) of White’s Packers a couple years ago (custom-6E/Style 690-C). They were a BITCH to break in (60-80 hours), but are my favorite boots I’ve yet to own.
    BTW-bought a pair of Frank’s custom made packers a year after my White’s & I STILL prefer the White’s Packers.

    That same squeak developed in my White's semi-dress. I tried to work it out for over a month and the noise actually increased in frequency and volume even with continuous wear. I sent the boots back to the factory and whatever was squeaking seemed to have been repaired. What really vexed me was that was the second time I had to send that pair of boots in after having them under a year. I'd previously sent them in because a full-on crack opened up in the vamp of the left boot after only four months of daily wear. Again, the White's factory repaired them both times free of charge, but I was quite taken aback by such problems having developed after less a year and in boots I'd paid seven hundred simolinas for.

    If they squeak, they're just dry. A little oil inside the boot, and it'll go away. It will darken your socks, unfortunately. I had a pair of nicks, and although I know they use a little cloth liner between some of the layers. That boot also developed the squeak. With enough rubbing the leather will go through the cloth it might just take an extra half year or whatever. My Wesco's did something similar, and they have no cloth lining. And it took them about five years to start squeaking. Go figure. 🤷🏽
    It would never affect my judgment on buying any of these brands.

      My guess would be the squeak is coming from the leather sole and mid sole rubbing together cause the glue has failed. Best way to get rid of that is to put a few nails in the sole in row in where the boots bend at your toes. That is where you get the most movement.

    So I have two ideas about the sqeak your having. 1 Moisture, one of my previous bosses only wore Smokejumpers, and I had a pair of Wesco Jobmasterss. One day they started to squeak, and he told me it was beacuse of moisture that had creeped in somewhere in the soles. At the time I was over conditioning the piss out the Jobmasters and looking back I can almost guarantee that the oils and fats of the conditioner was the culprit. That leads me to your previous video where you cleaned and conditioned your boots, I saw a similarity between how I used to do it and you in that video. I saw you put some LP on the sides of the midsole (that thick piece of veg tanned leather running form heel to toe, and visible form any angle on the x axis) and the spur shelf (also same piece of leather). The moisture, oils, and fats from the LP will creep inbetween the midsole and outsole: the midsole and the insole and could be causing the squeak. 2 Squeak pad, they might just not have a "squeak pad". All it is just really thin piece of leather or canvas tha goes inbetween insole and the midsole at the lower part of the arch twards the ball and toes. Over time these boots can develop the smallest amount of play, and two pieces of veg tanned leather rubbing against each other will squeak. Sense you are going to get them resoled soon, I would contact Whites and request a squeak pad. I had a third idea, but I lost it, it will come back to me. Anyway love your channel and hope you get that issue resovoled!

    • @bustinout
      @bustinout  Год назад

      Man it’s super hard to pinpoint, I thought moisture , but it only squeaks after you don’t wear the boots for a day. I think you’re on to it with the squeak pad though. I really like that idea. The reason they squeak is because they are all leather, like a good saddle. Cheap man made matériels don’t squeak, but they don’t last.

      I know good leather boots when I wear them. The squeak is in between the leather midsole and in sole I believe and it’s causing a rather annoying squeak. It can be fixed.

    I notice with your walking clip... You don't pick your feet up when you walk... You slide on your feet and that's why the heal has worn down that fast.. just saying
    And yes, I work 16+ a day, every day

    • @bustinout
      @bustinout  Год назад

      Yeah idk why I do that. I just always clip the heals on everything I wear. I physically can’t walk flat with my toes straight lol. I’m built like a frog man 😂

      @@bustinout I was in the army for a while and during BCT I had a Drill Sargeant that had one extreme pet peave... Not picking your feet up and then stepping "heel, toe"... It was insane how crazy it got...
      Also, you mentioned you had a squeak problem?
      Was that during the beginning or after a few months of working in them?
      Because usually with any kind of boots (I've personally owned white's, jk, and nicks) after the soul starts breaking down any area that has empty space on the soul can squeak... If it's a "click" every time you step then it's usually a shank issue...
      I'm a farmhand and a construction worker, if and when I have time off I'm usually in the mountains so needing boots that are going to keep up with me is extremely important, and finding what will fail on boots is something that I've accidentally have become a professional at

    • @bustinout
      @bustinout  Год назад

      Dang that man would hate me. The squeak showed up about 4 months into wearing them. It’s right in the sole so I imagine when I get them resoled I’ll have them put a piece of cloth between the sole and midsole to keep it from doing it. It does however go away once you’ve worn them for a few hours, but you have to be actually working on your feet and not at a desk lol. What’s your opinion on the nicks. I’ve been thinking on getting a pair of packers from them.

    • @ulfson279
      @ulfson279 Год назад +1

      @@bustinoutthe thing with nicks is that they are made well, however when it comes to nicks it's more like "those are my nice boots".. with white's I know I can beat the hell out of them and they continue to work as long as I do the normal maintenance, with nicks its almost like you have to baby them a little bit compared to the white's... For me, the last thing I want to think about is babying my equipment... If you have to baby a sledge hammer is it really even a hammer? If that makes sense... This is also coming from a guy that has owned one pair of boots from Walmart and after 2 weeks the boots fell apart
