I know right! Can you imagine that?! My sister and I were thinking the other day about what Disney life would’ve been like before 1940 when that song hadn’t come out…I know there were other movies but I just can’t put my head around Disney without that classic, iconic and beautiful song…

@Sara Mauricio That is true. But I was talking like what if we somehow ended up back in time knowing that that song hadn’t come out yet and knowing that a huge deal it would become but nobody else knowing that since it was the 30s
My favorite fact about My Heart Will Go On, was that when they pitched the idea of the song to Celine, she was apprehensive about singing it at first. She said it was intimidating to be the only song with lyrics in the entire main soundtrack of such an enormous film. Her husband eventually convinced her, so she recorded the demo. Before she recorded, they showed her the movie, and had her record the song directly after watching it. She said in an interview once, years ago, that she remembers walking into the studio to record, still crying, and recorded it in one take. ICON. (I'm sure it was probably just a portion of it just to get an idea as to the mood and nature of the film - though I suppose it may have been the full film)
Another fun fact… James Horner preferred the song he composed for The Land Before Time “If We Go On Together” sung by Diana Ross more so than “My Heart Will Go On”
It was indeed in one take. A testament to the phenomenal power and control Celina had over her voice. I feel so much for her now and how difficult her condition must be for her. 😢
@@bookemdano7567 He also wanted Sissel to sing the title song, not Celine because of her tremendous range and clarity. Sissel did ALL the rest... all the humming throughout this movie was by Sissel because of her range.
I haven't finished watching the video yet, but wanted to say that when my late husband of 34 years died in 2020, Into The West was my comfort song. I played it at least a hundred times while grieving and crying. I have remarried , am happy these days and haven't heard the song in months, but it brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps. It will always remain a special song to me.
I have similar feelings for the song, knowing that my brother was a huge Tolkien/LOTR fan and dearly loved those movies. It helps to have something to remember them by, though Warren Zevon's "Keep Me in Your Heart" is the one I most remember him by as we watched Zevon's last appearance on Letterman days before he died. I'm pleased to read that you've moved on, as much as one can, and have found happiness and a new love.
I’m disappointed “When You Believe” from “The Prince of Egypt” didn’t make it onto the list. It’s an extremely beautiful song that was not only performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey in the end credits, but also by numerous other artists, including Celtic Woman, which was got me into the song, and has also helped me through extremely difficult times throughout my life.
@@yevettebamber4273 “When You Believe” DID win an Oscar!!! If it didn’t, I wouldn’t even be saying anything!!! Look up the winners of the awards for 1996
Indian is not a language, and the song Jai Ho, is written in four different languages. Here is what languages Jai Ho, is written in: The lyrics to "Jai Ho" were written by Gulzar and are a combination of Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi. Lyrics in Spanish are also included in the song "to go along with his [Rahman] Latin American touch of music". According to the India-EU Film Initiative, this inclusion "really makes the song quite unique and international". Of the three singers credited, Sukhwinder Singh is the principal vocalist. Vijay Prakash sang the portion with the words "Jai Ho", which takes a high pitch at numerous junctures of the song. Mahalakshmi Iyer sang the Hindi words between the "Jai Ho" chants and the portions of the verses not sung by Singh. Tanvi Shah sang and wrote the song's Spanish words.
I remember going to see Titanic when it was in theaters the first time and the theater was packed, every seat taken and it was one of the bigger theaters. During the movie and by the end it was such a compelling and amazing told story, weaving romance and tragedy, excitement and sadness, that you could literally hear a pen drop had it done so. Everyone in the theater was enthralled by it. The only tike I've ever been to a movie at a theater and it being packed and no one making a sound. It was beyond amazing to experience this first hand

100% those songs are truly a masterpiece and they will pass the time as some of the greatest songs ever made and generations after generations will have the honor to hear this song until the end of times
The Rainbow Connection should’ve won an Oscar. Imo. I was listening to it on the way home and I was reminded of how beautiful it was!😇 In my opinion, it’s one of the top 100 songs ever written. Paul Williams is a genius. Nuff said. It’s enshrined in the Library of Congress as we speak, it deserves an honorary Oscar. Also I will say that Philadelphia is one of my favourite movies of all time & Springsteen deserved the Oscar!
I thought of that song, too. It was nominated in 1979, but lost to It Goes Like It Goes from Norma Rae. (It probably would make my list of 100 favorite songs.)
Favorite best Oscar winning movie songs My heart will go on- Titanic Beauty & the beast- Beauty & the Beast Over the rainbow- Wizard of Oz Let it go- Frozen A whole new world- Aladdin
Not necessarily my order of songs, but the #1 can't be argued with. If Judy Garland lived in the modern world, she'd be worth billions. Her voice was absolutely Gorgeous.
You're right. Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland should easily be number1. The only two other Oscar winning songs that I can think of that have become real true classics are When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio and from 1956 the Doris Day classic Que Sera Sera which won for best song.
@@michaelverbakel7632The modern era has so much thrown at them from so many different types of venues that it has missed out on the true greatest voices of early America. Judy Garland and Doris Day are just the tip of what Hollywood and early Disney stars showed.
I was so confused about what could possibly be no. 1 if it's not my heart will go on... and then the title came on and I just went oh, yeah, that makes sense XD
Prior to getting to your end of this video I was expecting Celine to top this list but after seeing the #1, I don’t mind she placed second. That top spot is one for the history books and during a time in US history, it served as more than a character arc for the character. Well worth it even after over 100 years
When Into The West starts playing in the background of the ending scene in Return Of The King I always tear up and then start crying..It’s such a beautiful song that really is a perfect way to end a beautiful amazing trilogy.
It's quite amazing that Celine Dion won Eurovision Song Contest in 1988 for Switzerland but her powerful vocal range is just absolutely amazing she has done many stuing and wonderful songs throughout her career ❤️❤️❤️💕💕💕💕💕
My favorite Oscar winning songs are: My Heart Will Go On (Titanic) Into the West (The Lord of the Rings The Return of the King) Shallow (A Star is Born) Can You Feel the Love Tonight (The Lion King) Beauty and the Beast (Beauty and the Beast) Remember Me (Coco) We Belong Together (Toy Story 3) When You Believe (The Prince of Egypt)
When I was a young musician, I got to perform Moon River as a solo violinist with my orchestra. It’s always held a place in my heart as what let me explore my emotional artistry.
I’ve always been amazed by the “love” & connection you can feel between Patrick Swayze & Jennifer Grey in Dirty Dancing given how much they really felt about each other. It just shows how good they were at acting to be able to portray those feelings when they truly despised each other, or at least that’s what’s been said about how Grey about Swayze. Apparently they didn’t get along ever since their experience working together in the movie Red Dawn.
1 song I'm surprised that didn't make this list is Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" from the movie "Beaches". It's a definite tearjerker. We dedicated that song at my grandmother's funeral back in 1997 & it's brought a lot of people, especially my family, to tears. Such a wonderful song.
Take my breath away from Top Gun is awesome. Top Gun is a really good movie. Let it go is a great song. I love the song Shallow. Lion King is my all time favorite movie. Dirty dancing is my number one favorite movie it is the best movie ever in my opinion. Beauty and the beast is what true love is cause Bell fell in love with the beast for who he was not how he looked. Man I love the song from titanic.
"Over the Rainbow" works because it is a young girl's "daydream" song. Dancers and flashy effects would only have spoiled it. The purity of the setting - a young girl's highly constrained, rural (and therefore dull) environment is the PERFECT place to imaging that girl singing about escaping. When the studio wanted to bump the song, the people who stopped them did film history the biggest favor ever done.
Can You Feel the Love Tonight My Heart Will Go On Beauty And The Beast When You Wish Upon a Star (I've had) The Time of My Life Take My Breath Away What a Feeling The Way We Were Let It Go ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love it 😍
When I saw that my heart will go on was number 2, I almost lost it asking what could possibly be number 1 if that was number 2…I forgot about the wizard of oz. 🤷🏻♀️great list. 😊
You mention Phil Collins "You'll Be in My Heart", but it's not on the list, which it should have been along with The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. That was one of the best.
Excellent list. I love that Eminem and Annie Lenox are included with the work of all the other amazing artists. Also, my favorite nominated song is Live and Let Die, but that lost out to The Way We Were, which is a pretty amazing song as well.
I’m still annoyed ‘Live and Let Die’ didn’t win. It’s my favorite Bond theme even above Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ (and I adore Adele)! Also love ‘A View to a Kill’
I remembered seeing the music video of My Heart Will Go On as a kid on MTV for the very first time and I just cried so hard. I've been a fan of Celine, and watched the film more than 30x
Into the West and Streets of Philidelphia are both amazing songs and stop me in my tracks when I hear them. They are both so understated and yet fit their movie purpose perfectly. Also 8 Mile is so iconic.
Somewhere Over the Rainbow stuns me every time I hear it. It’s so quietly powerful and for Judy Garland to have had that kind of vocal precision, control, and pitch at that age is astonishing.
While I definitely agree with “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” as no. 1 my sentimental favourite would be “Moon River”. One of my other favourites would be “Born Free” however, I’m unaware if it won an Academy Award🙏🏼👏💝

I loved the selection but I think you forgot "White Christmas" from "Holiday Inn" because that song among other of this list transcended their original movie and became an staple from the Holiday's Song
I was going to write that. I can't take a list seriously that leaves out that song and, IMO, should have been No. 1 on the list. There isn't a celebrator of Christmas that does not know and sing that song. And to me, that's what makes a song one of the best. Some of the songs on this list will not be remembered or sung 50 years from now but White Christmas will be. They really missed the mark on this one. And 'As Time Goes By' should have been No. 2.
The best ones were The Way We Were, Let It Go, Somewhere over the Rainbow, When You Wish Upon a Star, Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head, Moon River, A Whole New World.
Pretty good list. I was getting worried at first that there would be no classics but heartened to see that it was just because most of them were closer to the top of the list, hehe. While I liked Springsteen's Streets of Philadelphia song, I thought the superior one was Neil Young's "Philadelphia". But they're both great songs to a great movie so I'm glad one of them won.
Congratulations. Well-crafted video with very good analysis of each of the chosen songs. I will insist, though, that there are three obvious omissions: 1. 'White Christmas': not only a classic holiday song but also one of the best-selling songs of all time! 2. 'Que Sera Sera': a popular tune performed by Doris Day that was also a big part of the plot of the film! 3. 'Jai Ho' was not the first foreign-language song to win the Oscar, that distinction goes to 'Never on Sunday', which was sung in Greek by the 'last Grecian Goddess' - Melina Merkouri. These deserved at least an honorable mention, as you do with 'Fame' and 'A Whole New World'.
I was 9 y/o in '56---------heading to 10 in September-------when, I believe it was ABC , though don't quote me that------when aBC brought " The Wizard Of Oz" to television. It was, to that moment in time, THE most widely viewed TV moment, ever. And I so remember Mom just sobbing her way through " Over The Rainbow " , as she had just turned 20 y/o, when she 1st saw the film. I loved the film, especially Ray Bolger is The Scarecrow. What a memory. --------MJL, 76 y/o
With due respect to the talent and originality of the contributions of later generations-- such as “It’s Hard Out Here For a Pimp”--many of us 50’s babies naturally gravitate to the more timeless classics. Thanks for your coverage of the likes of “Evergreen”, “My Heart Will Go On”, and “Over the Rainbow.” As always, you do a great job with your videos.
I cannot believe that "I Will Always Love You" did not make it in this video. I mean seriously how can you not include Whitney Houston with her vocals and the passion she put in that song!! Plus look at how many awards the song and Whitney won for this song...not to mention how many weeks it spent on the charts!!
For a song to qualify for an Oscar, it has to be an original song composed specifically for the film in which it appears. "I Will Always Love You" was written and recorded by Dolly Parton in 1973. Therefore, it did not qualify for the Oscar since Whitney Houston's recording was a cover version. Case in point: None of the songs in "Evita" (1996) qualified for an Oscar because they were all old material from the various stage productions. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice composed a new song for the movie version, "You Must Love Me," so the song would be eligible for a qualifying "Best Song" award. "You Must Love Me" won the Oscar that year for "Best Original Song."
I don't think it was nominated because it was not written originally for that film. I would have to check. Dolly Parton would have won an Oscar for writing it.
I did a simple Wikipedia check: it’s written in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu. So not only not in imaginary language “Indian”, it’s written in three languages
For the record, 🎶 This is Me 🎶 from the Greatest Showman, should have gotten the Oscar. And yes, I'm still salty about it not winning. P.S. I remember, when the writers for the Coco walked on stage, 🎶This is Me🎶 talk about awkward. 🤣
A bit of trivia wrt Moon River. When the film was screened for the producers/big wigs, one of them demanded that the song and Hepburn’s performance be removed because (paraphrasing) ‘the song was awful, the performance sucked and and no one would like it.’ Luckily the director disagreed and insisted that the scene and song remain…and the rest is history. 😁
My all time favorite is Somewhere Over The Rainbow,. I have it in writing to my kids, I want that song as well as My Heart Will Go On played at my funeral.

Not that I believe the following song should replace any of those on your list, but I think it should be somehow included. "Up Where We Belong' from An Officer and a Gentleman.
Two I strongly think should've been on the list were "I Dreamed A Dream" (i know it's from Broadway but there have been at least 2 movie adaptations of it) and "As Time Goes By" from Casablanca.
The 5 Best Songs: 1)The Way We Were 2)Flashdance.. What A Feeling 3)Love Theme From A Star Is Born (Evergreen) 4)Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head 5)Skyfall
Funny thing about many of these songs is that despite never having watched the movies, I know them all by heart! I think that's a testament to their brilliance!
My favorite Oscar-winning songs: - Take My Breath Away - Berlin - Lose Yourself - Eminem - Falling Slowly - Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova - The Weary Kind - Ryan Bingham - Writing's on the Wall - Sam Smith - Shallow - Lady Gaga

I completely agree with you!
I’m surprised ‘Because you loved me ‘ wasn’t in there
Maybe she was crying because they hadn't showed her the juvenile lyrics they were shoving off on her until right then.
@@bookemdano7567 He also wanted Sissel to sing the title song, not Celine because of her tremendous range and clarity. Sissel did ALL the rest... all the humming throughout this movie was by Sissel because of her range.
"Can you feel the love tonight ?" is such a masterpiece , fits perfectly in The Lion King that is also a masterpiece of a movie

Glad you’re happy again Debbie ❤
Your husband is safe in Valinor
I’m disappointed “When You Believe” from “The Prince of Egypt” didn’t make it onto the list. It’s an extremely beautiful song that was not only performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey in the end credits, but also by numerous other artists, including Celtic Woman, which was got me into the song, and has also helped me through extremely difficult times throughout my life.
No no, it deserves to be on this list.
Probably because it beat out The Prayer by Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli, which to me, was a superior song.
Oscar-Winning...Did you miss the title?
Agreed, I always consider When You Believe as the greatest song in history because it makes all us believe in the Lord.
@@yevettebamber4273 “When You Believe” DID win an Oscar!!! If it didn’t, I wouldn’t even be saying anything!!! Look up the winners of the awards for 1996
Indian is not a language, and the song Jai Ho, is written in four different languages. Here is what languages Jai Ho, is written in:
The lyrics to "Jai Ho" were written by Gulzar and are a combination of Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
That movie is dumb anyways.
came to find this! What is Indian language? I expected @msmojo to know better! SMH!
Never forget there is an English version sang by Pussy Cat Dolls 😋🫢
Nitpicking
I cringed when they said that.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight is by far my fave song. that and Digga Tunnel lol
When You Believe from The Prince Of Egypt, should be on this list. As well as Colors of the wind from Pocahontas.
I agree. I love When You Believe.
You are so right. Rainbow Connection is a wonderful, wondrous, inspirational and gently calming piece of magic.
I thought of that song, too. It was nominated in 1979, but lost to It Goes Like It Goes from Norma Rae.

Same here!

Moon river breaks my heart every time

1 song I'm surprised that didn't make this list is Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" from the movie "Beaches". It's a definite tearjerker. We dedicated that song at my grandmother's funeral back in 1997 & it's brought a lot of people, especially my family, to tears. Such a wonderful song.
The song wasn’t written for the movie.
There’s not a world where Over the Rainbow was not going to be #1! Add to it that it is sung by one of the greatest singers to ever grace this earth!
Celine Dion perfectly could release a complete album only with all Movie songs that she has singing in her entire career!!! She is so impressive!!!
I absolutely love skyfall that song is so brilliant 😍🥰
Can You Feel the Love Tonight
My Heart Will Go On
Beauty And The Beast
When You Wish Upon a Star

They are all so beautiful, thank you musicians, writers and all for giving us these beautiful songs to enjoy.
“Let It Go” is still a great song and millions of Frozen fans love it for nearly 10 years.
let it go
“Jai Ho”, one of the best songs ever made.
We really, really love it. 😊
Excellent list. I love that Eminem and Annie Lenox are included with the work of all the other amazing artists. Also, my favorite nominated song is Live and Let Die, but that lost out to The Way We Were, which is a pretty amazing song as well.
"Live and Let Die" is my favorite James Bond theme. It took decades for any of the terrific Bond themes to win.
I’m still annoyed ‘Live and Let Die’ didn’t win. It’s my favorite Bond theme even above Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ (and I adore Adele)! Also love ‘A View to a Kill’
My Heart Will Go On was a moment in and of itself.
I'm pretty sure Born Free did win the Oscar.
it did in 1966.

I Just Called To Say I Love You, When You Believe, You'll Be In My Heart, No Time To Die and Up Where We Belong should've been on here
I loved the selection but I think you forgot "White Christmas" from "Holiday Inn" because that song among other of this list transcended their original movie and became an staple from the Holiday's Song
exactly and as such this list and Ms Mojo lacks a lot of credibility ; White Christmas should be 1st
The best ones were The Way We Were, Let It Go, Somewhere over the Rainbow, When You Wish Upon a Star, Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head, Moon River, A Whole New World.
My favorite Oscar Winning Song will always be 'In to the West" from Return of the King
Great call on White Christmas.
Would have included You'll be in My heart.
How about Bryan Adams singing ( Everything I Do) I'll Do It For You for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves movie! EXCELLENT SONG!

What a memory. --------MJL, 76 y/o
My number one is definitely Into the West. I still can't get enough of this song.
As music/movie lovers, good work, MsMojo.
Wow!! I'm an old softie...RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD ❤
"It's A Hard Life For A Pimp" from "Hustle & Flow" was a great suprise win. Three 6 Mafia with Taraji P Henson performing at the Oscar's was great.
Was it the winner, when the academy robbed Dolly Parton ("Travelin Thru") again?
"Theme From Shaft" should be on this list - anyone agree? It was far ahead of its time.
This! It was honestly a game changer. It had a least as big, if not a bigger impact than 'Lose Yourself'. I remember watching it live. Electric!
I agree. Considering, who put the list together, I'm not surprised it didn't make the list.
Indeed!
As long as "Over the Rainbow" is No. 1, after that it doesn't matter, except "Under the Sea" desereved an Oscar for being clever and fun.
Also, A Whole New World.
What A Feeling and Take My Breath Away should’ve been top 10, easily!
I cannot believe that "I Will Always Love You" did not make it in this video. I mean seriously how can you not include Whitney Houston with her vocals and the passion she put in that song!! Plus look at how many awards the song and Whitney won for this song...not to mention how many weeks it spent on the charts!!
…it didn’t win the Oscar for Best Original Song. It was originally written, performed, and recorded by Dolly Parton in the 70’s.
I do not like Whitney's version better than Dollys. I got tired of Whitney's "i-ee-i-ee-i will always love you".
@@emeraldisle8406 I totally understand.

I couldn’t ignore it either , hopefully they can fix that
For the record, 🎶 This is Me 🎶 from the Greatest Showman, should have gotten the Oscar.
