My sensor was sooo dirty, so this really helped! Did all the steps but I had to use the wet way two times to remove all the specks. But it did the trick! Awesome tutorial!
This was a fantastic tutorial and definitely super helpful. THANK YOU for explaining this so well and SHOWING us how to clean a sensor without freaking out. AWESOME!
I think the best thing about this video is the reassurance. As a newbie Sony A7iii user I'm super nervous about cleaning the sensor for the very first time. Thank you! Also, any tips on why my Sony has filled up with dust like a hoover? I have swapped the lens once in the past year and it lives in a camera bag in fairly benign conditions - like me, it doesn't get out much. I can only guess the Sony FE 4/24 - 105 G OSS lens has poor environmental sealing? :-(
I have this lens and I have the same problem, I think you are right that it has poor environmental sealing, I get dust inside all the time. Very frustrating. Usually a blower deals with it but I currently have a bunch of stubborn spots that won't budge.
Just bought the swabs and solution, ran a pass down and back. Appears to be squeaky clean and has solved my issue, but ill know next time i shoot rollers
This was super helpful. Thank you. Still a few small specs at f16 after the first two steps but I'll hold off swabbing until it becomes very noticeable.
Holy crap I think that blowing air into my sensor step actually did it on mine. Thanks a million! 👏 I love doing photoshoots at the beach but unfortunately a lot of wind means sand on the lens but this helps thank you so much 👍
After running the automatic sensor cleaning process, should we leave the camera on while using the swabs? Or will the sensor stay locked if we turn the camera off?
Thanks for being so detailed in your cleaning steps! I'm going to try the first two steps again as you describe but have a cleaning kit on the way just incase.
Ben, this is a perfect explanation, I guess I'm going now to the third step, hopefully this will give me sometime with clean sensor. You know what? I really miss my Nikon D-90 mirror camera where I never had to do that (-;
sony recommend ON and has mode for cleaning so it lockup sensor IBIS (stabilisation) movement...but on/off just dont use too much presure with swab in any case...be gentle and all will be fine
Uhm...leave the camera switched on (after it completes its vibration) while cleaning the sensor with the stick thing? Or the camera can be switched off after the vibration? The "floating" sensor is locked when the camera is switched off or on? I own a mirrorless camera, Canon M50, for two years, but only today that I learnt that its sensor is actually being suspended! I have not touched the sensor. But I did use a vacuum cleaner on it. Thankfully the sensor did not get sucked out! Hahahahahah!
@@benjohnsoncreative Hmm. Canon one or ones seem to already 'naturally' locked without doing anything. At least my M50 is. I got worried knowing that mirrorless sensor actually is suspended. No amount of Internet search answers the question.
Bought the kit, tried cleaning the sensor on my a7iii and after using the swab it created more spots on the camera ? Also the eclipse fluid and swab leaves fluid on the sensor what do u do ? I tried to have the camera do the self cleaning after I did the cleaning to shake the fluid off sensor but still no luck, I have a bunch of spots now when it was just 1 before I did this and now they are everywhere. Any recommendations? There’s not a professional place that cleans sensors where I live and Sony wants $500 to do it !?!
Thank you: after in camera sensor cleaning and BEFORE using the swab DO YOU SWITCH THE CAMERA OFF AGAIN ? Thanks
My sensor was sooo dirty, so this really helped! Did all the steps but I had to use the wet way two times to remove all the specks. But it did the trick! Awesome tutorial!
Glad you got it cleaned!
This video is the best I have found on this subject. Thank you for creating this video and explaining all of the steps correctly. You are awesome!
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful!
Great video, Ben!
Glad you enjoyed it
It worked when I used the blower on the sensor. Thanks!!!
Amazing! So glad this helped!

Such an awesomely produced tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
I don't normally comment but this was a great tutorial, easy to follow and straightforward. Worked perfectly on the second step. :)
Thank Tayyab!

I always hold of swabbing until absolutely necessary
Thank you! The second step worked for me perfectly.
Glad it helped!

I love doing photoshoots at the beach but unfortunately a lot of wind means sand on the lens but this helps thank you so much 👍
I’ve done my fair share of beach shoots - sand can be brutal on the gear!
The first one is worked for me. Thank you ❤❤
Amazing! I’m glad to hear it!
Ben did you turn off your camera after cleaning mode or you left it on?
Very helpful video. The first 2 steps worked just fine for me. 👍🏼
Great to hear!
And what about the moisture left on the sensors from the swab?
Should i "dry" it with another fresh unsoaked swab ?
No, the solution drys quickly and the swab is only damp, not soaked
This tutorial was extremely informative
Glad you found it helpful!
After running the automatic sensor cleaning process, should we leave the camera on while using the swabs? Or will the sensor stay locked if we turn the camera off?
I leave it on
Ben with a highest quality content and video
Thanks Altyn!
I’m going to go ahead and try this. Hopefully I can go ahead and have a clean sensor for once. 👍🏼
Good luck!
Hugely helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Works like a charm
It does!
I cleaned it with a soft cloth normally used to clean glasses but it was a bran new one, then i saw ur video, can it get damaged?
I wouldn't wipe it, even with a new cloth. If there is dust, dirt or hair on your sensor and you wipe it it could possibly scratch the sensor.
@@benjohnsoncreative okay got it thank God i saw ur video that will be a one time thing. Thank U so much !
Thanks for being so detailed in your cleaning steps! I'm going to try the first two steps again as you describe but have a cleaning kit on the way just incase.
Happy cleaning!
Excellent breakdown. Thank you so much!
Thanks for watching Phillip!
If you apply pressure that will damage sensor right? Can we use cotton to clean the sensor?
Avoid applying pressure, I would only use the recommended swab and not cotton or anything else
Hey Ben, great video, thank you so much for this. Do you recommend locking the stabilization of the sensor to clean?
Yes definitely
Ben, this is a perfect explanation, I guess I'm going now to the third step, hopefully this will give me sometime with clean sensor. You know what? I really miss my Nikon D-90 mirror camera where I never had to do that (-;
Haha right? One of the perks of dslr cameras for sure
Where did you get your shirt from! I want one
Found it randomly at a store in the mall but they have similar ones on Amazon
Will Aeroeclipse work just fine?
Hi can we use cannon liquid to ckaen sony sensor
I haven’t tried that solution before
Should we clean with a spatula with the device turned on or off?
Confusing to me. Do I leave the camera turned ON when using the cleaning solution (after the vibration and blowing is complete?)
Very helpful, thanks :)
Glad it was helpful!
nice and simple, loved it, thanks!
Thanks Rijan!
Thank you so much!!
You're welcome!
One question: Is it camera turned on while you take the third step of cleaning the sensor?
Yeah, it can be on, because the cleaning mode is active and that’s what keeps the sensor locked in place and not jiggly
The video starts at 0:55
I think you left out a step... and that is to look for dust or smudges on your lens - inside and out
great video
Very true! Definitely clean the lens first
Can a dirty sensor make your autofocus not work?
I have an a7 iii
Starts at 1:21
Thanks for watching!
Thanks!
No problem!
thank you :)
You're welcome!
should i have my camera turned off while manually cleaning sensor ? or should it be turned on ?
sony recommend ON and has mode for cleaning so it lockup sensor IBIS (stabilisation) movement...but on/off just dont use too much presure with swab in any case...be gentle and all will be fine
Like for information. Thank you
I think my sensor has the measles 😂
That's not what you want! Hopefully these methods will help
what happen when i cant get rid of the dust. i cleaned my sensor several times and my image still the same
by the way i scratched the protector of the sensor
If you feel like it isn’t getting clean and is potentially scratched then I’d take it to a local photo shop and see if they offer repair / cleaning
Hi Ben. I am from Barbados really like your content. I am trying to build a channel too.

On the Sony you leave it on, when you activate cleaning mode it engages the sensor lock. I'm not sure with a Canon
@@benjohnsoncreative Hmm. Canon one or ones seem to already 'naturally' locked without doing anything. At least my M50 is. I got worried knowing that mirrorless sensor actually is suspended. No amount of Internet search answers the question.
What happens if step 3 doesn’t work 🤣
You may want to try all the steps again! Otherwise it’s possible that it’s not debris but instead your sensor has a scratch

The only way is wet cleaning again and then dry cleaning with the swab.
Thank you so much!
