I just bought a ships wheel too! It's all teak, with an all brass hub, it's the real deal...It has all the indicators of authenticity.
I think that's so cool, that you give a scripture along with your video.
I ran across that same scripture this week in a book on how to improve your marriage by trading angry responses.. for gentle biblical answers.
Quote of the day,.."Anger can do nothing, that love can't do better."

Good luck with the wheel and keep growing in your marriage.

@@BobsTwoCarGarage Oh, I'm not married, I saw a broadcast of 'focus on the family', and ordered the book.
      Lathe hint:
I've had many hundreds of hours experience on the wood lathe, .here's a good tip: I wired in a foot-pedal control into the on-off switch; it's a momentary switch, so the lathe is only on while the foot control is pressed, that allows you to use both hands, and have instant "off" while separating the part. .when it gets close to separating, you can trade the parting tool for a hacksaw, . You can take it all the way thru, or finish it by hand,, without risk hurting the piece. Just pulse the foot pedal, and put a cloth underneath the piece, for cushion. The fine teeth of the hacksaw blade makes a clean cut, without the high rpm.
This is my first ships wheel, fortunately it needs no repair, other than cleaning the hub, and light sanding and oiling the wood.

Thanks for your Video. I came across a ships wheel myself which is 60" in diameter. It is very weathered and missing 5 of the 10 handles. This is going to be a big project. Not sure what kind of wood its all made out of but looks like the spokes are oak
