Spamton was probably the most creative antagonist Toby Fox made in Deltarune, he spoke almost exactly the same as he does here, had a lot of humor and unnerving qualities, and even a dark and tragic side to him as well. Toby was almost worried that everyone would dismiss him or find his character annoying, but he quickly became everyone's favorite with all the art, animation, music, and fandubs that you can find! He truly is a [BIG SHOT!!!]
He definitely overtook that [[CLOWN AROUND TOWN]] from chapter 1 in popularity.
Sp4mtON as Achiv3d wHat he wan7eD he is a [BIG SHOT]
Can’t believe he’s still stuck LIVING IN A GODDAMN GARBAGE CAN
He is truly [[big]] [[Big]]
[[BIGGER AND BETTER THAN EVER!!]]
Yet......
"where you control a teenage human"
That's more literal than it sounds
And they're not happy about it.
*looks at the hours of deltarune lore videos i watched in febuary*
in a creepy way
It feels so bizarre watching someone who knows nothing about Deltarune read a description of the game from Wikipedia.
Ur pfp is minos
A couple comments: In Deltarune, your SOUL literally appears as a red heart and appears pretty frequently throughout the game. There might be some metaphors attached to it, but when Spamton/Stupendium is talking about taking your heart, he means it literally.
Kromer is a fictional currency in Deltarune that's used exclusively by Spamton. The way it's treated implies it's a cryptocurrency. So the Kromer Key line is a pretty great pun.
It's also implied that some of the more negative things Spamton says are actually him not-so-subtly projecting his own feelings onto you, like saying all your friends despise you or the sponge who hates its [$4.99] life.
Living a garbage can, another projection
When he says Kromer Key, his green screen turned off. pretty sure it was a "Chroma Key" joke
@@_TheDoctor yeah, that's the pun they were referring to
@@wurmturm he must've gone blind from the Shockwave of the joke going over his head so fast
Also, Spamton was kinda just y’know I guess trauma and emotion dumping subtly.
As someone who knows what Spamton is all about, it was fascinating to watch someone with very little context piece him together from this song. Really speaks to how well portrayed he is here. I hope Toby is proud of his awful little puppet man.
Funny story, the line “if you want to make your Screen Green, you are gonna need my Kromer Key!” actually references a few things:
1. Screen green probably means you’re drowning in cash
2. Kromer is the currency Spamton uses in game
3. Key is also an important item in the game, where you go off on a quest for him.
So this means, you can make your screen green using a chroma key, or you can be drowning in riches if you follow my quest
I think this was referencing the fact that you use the keygen/kromer key to engage in the Spamton NEO boss fight, in which he attempts to free himself from the game/enter reality/"break his strings" (as he calls it). The green screen is the reality behind the animation/effects.
Kromer Key - chromakey/Kromer/GenKey
it could also lend itself to some of the theorized lore as in if you accept his deal u will gain a new outlook on life or reality much in the way jevil did
it's also a pun on chroma key, which is used heavily in cgi methods
"Ad Infinitum" means "at infinity" , AD is a simple article in latin. The fact that ads are annoying is a coincidence thats well used.
"ad" is better translated as: to, towards, until. I usually keep it simple and use "to". Thus we get - "To Infinity". No offense meant.
@@DellogPlays also makes sense for Ad Nauseam meaning "to nausea" for a repeat
@@DellogPlays and beyond
You could also interpret it as "Ad Infinity" so an infinite amount of ads
in deltarune its implied that some of spamtons bracket text is his speech literally being censored by some outside force. its often played for horror or mystery, like when he tries to sell you [hyperlink blocked] but it can be played for humour as well.
the reason why i bring this up is... well.. i really like the thought you put into analyzing the "little sponge who hates its [$4.99] life" line.
but in the context of deltarune its clear that what spamtons actually trying to say is "who hates its fucking life"
(spamton swears a lot in deltarune. or he would if he was able to, its always written as [$!%$].)
Additionally, he refers to Kris as "little Sponge" a couple times, so what he's really saying is that Kris hates their life.
@@ryanbarham8464 this is true, but spamtons clearly projecting at this point, so hes really saying that he hates his own life.
@@beheeyemite is he really though? Both he and the Kris are puppets for an entity far greater than themselves, why shouldn't they both hate their existence?
@@smiley4995 oh well hes definitely projecting. is he right when he says it anyways? ...well he says it when he has literally JUST met kris. he has no idea if hes right.
as the player of the game whos spent some time with kris, we know its not unreasonable to say kris may hate their life. spamton has no idea what kris feels when he says it though.
...or maybe he does. its really hard to tell just how much spamton knows about kris's situation even by the end of his subplot. at the beginning, maybe he can tell at a glance what kris is going through and come to a reasonable conclusion. but i still think if he sees kris going through what hes going through and assumes they hate their life bc he hates his life, thats projection.
also, [[hyperlink blocked]] could mean anything, however it makes a huge amount of sence that it'd be *_freedom_* , as its spamton's main goal to become free from his strings, gain controll. plus he advertises to kris with [[hyperlink blocked]] a lot. and when the fight is over, kris either *_SCREAMS_* hes not ok, or very softly says that hes fine. so its clear to me [[hyperlink blocked]] could be freedom. what do you think though?
It's fun watching someone who hasn't played Deltarune try and make sense of this! Deltarune is so hard to explain to the outside observer, and Spamton is one of its more complicated characters. He's basically a piece of add-ware that has become self aware, and now instead of trying to trick people into giving money to his creators, he's trying to trick people into selling him their soul/heart/light/life-force, whatever you want to call it, that part of you that makes you who you are so he can integrate it into his program as he desperately tries to become "real". Real physiological horror kind of stuff.
Also, black olives and Pepsi.
reminds me of that one guy from that one episode of star trek next gen lol
@@-hollythekitsune-7086 Not sure which one you are thinking of. But I'm sure you're right. Next gen has loads of bizarre one offs that really mess with your head!
"...so he can integrate it into his program as he desperately tries to become "real"."
Spamton already is real- at least as far as Darkners may or may not be real, but that's something for another day -he wants your [Heart shaped object] so he can become free. So he can become [BIG].
Less Pinocchio wanting to be a real boy, more Pinocchio wanting to no longer be a puppet. Not sure how important that distinction is, or, if I'm even right here and am not missing something or am mistaken, but... I feel like it's worth making.
@@chaoticsilver8442 Right. I was just trying to put in more general terms without getting into the meta complications of the game.
@@connorfahrenwald3469 Fair
Honestly Spamton is a super tragic character if you read between the lines of the story…constantly kicked around and failing to follow trends and thrive in the market he once grew to call his territory. Marketing and striking deals is all he knows and he’s desperate to break out of the glass ceiling by any means…even if that means dying to you to make it happen.
What's worse is that he once wasn't as successful but was happy with friends, then he got a strange call from something, eventually with the help of this entity he got massively successful and rose in prominence and wealth, however the more he succeeded the more friends abandoned him, eventually at his peak the mysterious called no longer called him and he began to fail horribly, even losing the praise of Queen and getting evicted. Finally he would receive a call once again and run off resulting in his current state, one of his remaining friends went to check on him and found the phone hanging, he listened and only heard garbled noises.....
oh and he also got thrown in a pool of acid @@smiley4995
I restrained myself and watched the video before commenting on it. Here's a bit of context: In Deltarune, you travel through Dark Worlds that are a projection of a certain room. The Cyber World from where Spamton (char played by Stups) is a projection of a computer room, and Spamton is literally a personification of advertising. His communication style completely flowed into the song, as well as the key phrases.
specificly spamton represents the broken "nigerian prince", "bitcoin dupers", "mcafee renewal", and the "hot singles in [[insert_(area-of-orogin)_here]] spam mail. the addisons (characters you find in the dark world that sell you random stuff) are the honest adverisements for bananas, brand new shoes etc. its one of those things that has to be specified.
Also the way his words get replaced by bracket text line up with how an adware infection manifests- random words being replaced by links to advertising websites tangentially related to the word in question.
Fun fact in game when spamton says hyperlink blocked it’s most likely him trying to say freedom. Spamtons whole character is he’s essentially a puppet on strings who desperately wants of them. Who wants the power to make his own life without anyone controlling him or telling him what to do. He wants freedom, and the guy on the phone gave it to him. Until he stopped answering, we don’t exactly know what happened next but what every it was it left spamton a broken computer virus ridden mess still desperately looking for freedom form his strings and success as a sales man in a world where no one wants his stuff. That’s what spamton is. Desperation
Seeing him turn references of the game into real life is like seeing an english teacher make random points and connections from poems
Like the long rant about the green screen. Interesting how he, on the other hand, misunderstood the line "Those who have it really have it really have it. if you haven't, well you had it, couldn't hack it" and went on a whole discussion over it lol. Same thing with the [[Hyperlink Blocked]] part, where he completely ignores the scene of Spamton asking for help. He's a good reactor, just feels weird with how he takes such random parts from it.
Thank you for teaching me that "foot rubs" is a power word. Can't wait to channel the power of a dragon soul through that shout.
Aye man I would like an automated foot rub if I could get one 🤣
Foots Rub Dah?
@@gengarghasttried translating it into Dovahzul but there's no word for rub unfortunately
Toby Fox is actually really good at making music himself, like for example im sure you've heard of Megalovania, it's a seriously viral song.BIG SHOT(spamton's theme) is also really good, you should listen to it sometime
In Deltarune, a big theory in the community is that the player, or an unseen entity meant to represent the player, has possessed the soul of Kris(the character you play as), and is robbing them of their free will throughout the chapters of the game. There's some way Kris himself can still assert his own will over the player's. Like how after the 2nd fight with Spamton one of your party members asks if you're okay, and depending on which answer you give. If you say "Yes" then Kris will say it through gritted teeth, alluding to him not wanting to say that. Meanwhile, if you pick "No" then Kris will actually yell it all of a sudden, meaning that he really wants to get the point across to his friends that are mostly oblivious to his inner struggle against the player, or whatever entity has a hold over him.
Basically, Kris is like a puppet. This is interesting because not only does Spamton seem to know a lot about what Kris is going through(asking Kris in the 2nd fight against him "Do you wanna be a ❤️ on a chain your whole life?" along with other allusions), but Spamton is also a puppet. In the 2nd fight against him, the way to beat him non-lethally is to cut the strings he's hanging from, and while he believes Kris cutting the final string will give him the freedom he wants, all it does is make the new body he acquired fall to the floor like a puppet with it's strings cut; limp and useless.
Kris uses they/them, but yes, this is an excellent breakdown- I'm really excited to see what direction Toby goes with Kris's character
@@salvadorelastname9095 no. kris has no gender, just like frisk and chara, and is drawn intentionally androgynous. this is so the player can use whatever they want not so you can shove them into your own personal box and then constantly try to force everyone else into your box too.
kris is everything and nothing, and therefore everyone is right regardless of what they refer to him as.
@@DarthZ01 if your takeaway from Deltarune is that Kris is a player self-insert meant to be projected onto, you really weren't paying attention lmao
Toby Fox has corrected someone on a stream who referred to Kris as "he". Kris explicitly uses they/them pronouns. Kris is nonbinary. Stay mad.
@@salvadorelastname9095they are they because they represent everyone. But also not the Player, who is a character in themselves.
My favourite is [[Half-Priced Salami]] with a cup of whatever fizzy drinks are available.
Regarding a video though, I could talk for hours about Deltarune, about Spamton, about this song. But I just wanna focus on one thing and say that "Sponge who hates it's [[$4.99]]" is referring to the specific line of Spamton's dialogue in-game. There are many lines in this song that quote Spamtom pretty much directly, but here's this specific bit:
* WHY BE THE [[Little Sponge]] WHO HATES ITS [[$4.99]] LIFE
* WHEN YOU CAN BE A
* [[BIG SHOT!!!]]
* [[BIG SHOT!!!!]]
* [[BIG SHOT!!!!!]]
Stupes uses this line during the product sensory overload segment, where the next product starts with the last word of a previous one and it just chains endlessly:
Bed bath? Bath sponge?
Sponge who hates its [[$4.99]] life boat?
Boat shoe? Shoestring? String bean?
So, the phases "Sponge who hates it's [[$4.99]] life" and "Life boat?" concatenate into one broken sentence. Which is a pretty [[BIG SHOT]] move in my opinion.
Idk why but your very pleasent and softspoken sounding voice clashing with the intense and fast way Stipendium sounds in this song is really funny to me
never knew i needed to see an analysis of this song from someone with minimal prior knowledge of deltarune, bc these all are very valid ways to take these lines that i wouldve never thought of bc i would just write it off as a reference
I haven’t watched that far in nor do I know if anyone else has explained this, but I feel like you should know Spamton is the personification of spam emails. The pink, yellow, orange, and blue characters during the chorus are called the Addisons and are personifications of other kinds of online advertising. Spamton was one of these Addisons, but he left to do his own thing.
I just realized that the word “ad” in the title is a pun. I already knew “ad infinitum” means “to infinity”, but only now do I realize that in this context it also means “ad” as in “advertisement”.
This song has introduced so many reactors to Deltarune. I’m not sure what I would think of Toby Fox’s masterpieces if Spamton was my first introduction.
Lots of people trying to Explain Deltarune to you in the comments, I'm just glad that you're able to appreciate this art despite knowing nothing about the source material. That really speaks to The Stupendium's incredible lyricism and writing. I'm glad you enjoyed, and hey maybe you could check out Deltarune/Undertale some day!
The music in this seems to be a remix of BIG SHOT which contains motifs of Now's Your Chance To Be A, A Deal Gone Wrong, Power of Neo (Which is a remix of Battle Against A True Hero), The World Revolving, and DUMMY! (Which is a remix of Ghost Fight). Toby likes his motifs.
It also contains motifs and lines from the “The Music Man” soundtrack:
Rock Island
Ya Got Trouble
76 Trombones
Those are the ones I’ve been able to identify so far. Really good old movie.
If you've enjoyed this so much, imagine how felt those people who understood all the references :D
9:35 Frankly, I think Stupes was going for both, automated text replacement AND audio inserts of radio ads. I know the text thing is how they do it in the original game, but since the game doesn't have voice acting, Stupes making the choice to translate that to the radio advert effect when rapping it makes perfect sense to me. Also, I like spinach on pizza, maybe with some ginger ale
amateur coder here, the parentheses mentioned at 2:51 are usually a result of a variable being incorrectly insertet into a text. What should be shown is what the variable holds, but it shows the name of the variable.
But the parentheses also serve atentiongrabbing purpose
If you played Deltarune, things like [hyperlink blocked] gonna make more sense. It is something Spamton knows but can't really talk about. His whole character(Similar to Jevil in Chapter 1) is about achieving freedom and how knowledge can drive one insane
aw man this is such a great reaction!! it's super interesting to hear such an in-depth breakdown from someone unfamiliar with Spamton - i think it's a testament to Stupes' writing that he got all those themes across so well :D keep up the great work, you've got a new subscriber!!
I have to be honest. I love The Stupendium, but this song hit me like a sledgehammer during a hangover. I found the song unpleasant, and the wordsmithing was phenomenal, but also almost painfully intelligent. It hurts to listen to, which is not the reaction that I usually have to his songs. It's not even bad, it just hit me in an unpleasant manner.
I felt exactly the same way the first time I listened to it!
But as with all of Stupes songs, I have been turned and now I can't stop humming it.
That’s the thing I love about the song, it is just a complete mess which is perfect for spamton
You just described Spamton's character lol. He does a REALLY good job at matching his songs to the source material.
So perfect song for the character. It's strangely unpleasant even though it's good but you're not sure why until you dig into it and find the terrifying lore.
Funny enough, I felt the opposite- it hit me like a sledgehammer in the best way. Then again, I used to listen to stress by justice all the time as a teenager, that probably primed me for this song real well.
that "we'll take your heart for free" line could also be used to imply that Spamton wants Kris's "HeartShapedObject" (a.k.a. their Soul, a.k.a the Player) for reasons still unknown
you are cringe
8:35 also "Take your heart for free" Also LITERALLY means them taking our heart. In deltarune you control your own heart to dodge attacks and its actually your SOUL and spamton needs this soul to be a [[BIG SHOT[[ for whatever reason
I love how even without the context of deltarune this song still holds up as just a song about the annoyance of online shopping
I love your impromptu philosophizing about the ‘ad’ in Ad Infinutum... but it’s literally the Latin word for ‘to.’ Like Ad Astra Per Aspera, Ad Hoc, Ad Libitum, Ad Nauseum, Ad Hominem, Ad Absurdum, Ad Fundum, and many others
17:23 - When someone switches from grinning to making that face while listening to a song you know it's good.
It really speaks to how well The Stupendium captured Spamton how How it Do Dave can comment on the themes present without knowing much about the character.
there's a neat little detail of the game where Spamton in a normal playthrough will have a lot of "[[Hyperlink Blocked]]" in his sentences when relating to information that would be associated with the evil/corruption/snowgrave route, but in the evil/corruption/snowgrave route (where he plays a much bigger role as the final boss, which you can see him transforming into near the end), he doesn't have that happen, which is kind of like him getting "un-blocked" because of the actions of the player. furthermore, if you are doing the evil/corruption/snowgrave route, there's a locked door you can interact with that reveals that Spamton is using the player's violent actions (which he encourages during the route) to gain power and is doing paperwork, likely to get himself fully unblocked.
That was an incredibly good analysis and I loved your thoughts on the song and character. I suggest trying out Deltarune for more of the character featured in this song.
Chicken, green pepper, and pineapple if I’m feeling adventurous and the place knows how to do it right. I’d probably down it with some dr pepper zero.
Spamton G Spamton is fascinating, a little walking talking personification of a spam bot that managed to capture the heart and pity of players overnight. The implied hell he went through as everything and everyone turned their back on him and sheer desperation to reclaim his dream of being a Big Shot is tear jerking, even in the context to the depths he’d sink to to get it back.
He’s obviously connected to some of the borderline cosmic horror in the setting, and comes tantalizingly close to spilling some big secret time and again, but every time he gets close he has a sudden panic attack, acting erratically even by his standards and forcing the conversation back to his grift. Most unsettling is how much he knows about the player character, who he views as a kindred spirit verging on winding up just like him.
I love how deep you can go into this and analyse the entire video and give me a whole new appreciation for not just this video and song, but the character as well-- and you haven't even played the game! That's honestly amazing
Man one of my favorite thing about this song and spamton in general is the relation and reflection of the corporate shit goin on today. And I think hearing a reaction from someone who wasn't really exposed to Deltarune was a great, a fantastic way to get at this core which Deltarune is trying to do with this little guy in the first place, which is satirize and frame what advertising and commercialism is, but as someone who drank the spamton koolaid bout as soon as it came out I get too caught up in the literal game references to make analysis like someone who's directly comparing it to the real world like you are cause you don't have that game language liason to filter your thoughts through. Anyway. Thanks for the video man, huge delight. I like Bacon and Feta Cheese and Onions and I like dr. Pepper with my pizza
hey Dave, I really enjoyed this video of yours and it's very nice hearing your comments and thoughts on Spamton in this video, especially from somebody like yourself who doesn't know a whole lot about the game. It's real nice and entertaining, and you taught me a lot about actual marketing in this video. I've always enjoyed your content and especially whenever you go into detail on the many detail of these videos. Stupendium is amazing and he's really talented but I feel you too agree with me on this^^ Spamton is a really interesting character to me and I know a lot of people really like Spamton
An excellent video, both the original and your video right here! Keep it up and be sure to take some breaks if you're ever in need of it! but most importantly be yourself and do what you love doing!. About what you said at the very end, don't worry about the pausing and all the talking you do in all your videos. It's my favorite part about your reaction videos^^
Thank you for this comment!
@@whatitdodave You're very welcome, kind sir!
barbecue sauce, meat and tomatoes with ice tea.
Spamton G. Spamton is... interesting. he was the best salesman of his time, running a car dealership. he then fell off into insanity until a certain Mike called him one day. after that, he crawled out of his garbage can and asked the MC for help. later he achieved his [BIG SHOT] form and almost killed them. he now rests in a prison of ice, a grin on his face and dread in his eyes.
8:28 in this instance he meant it quite literally
Favorite pizza topping is any meat you can put on pizza. With a Dr Pepper. Thanks for this fun video!
I was just watching the rest of your stupendium reactions, very great videos. I love the way you try to find the deeper meanings of the lyrics. keep on doing these, you're doing great. :)
One fun little detail that doesn't take Deltarune or Music Man context is the "Moist, Delicious Cookies" bit early in the product listing verse. It starts with 'at this time, you searched for cat pictures!' and then immediately shows you cookies, which is actually in reference to web sites' cookies used to track your search and visit history. Being the embodiment of advertisement old and new, Spamton presenting a plate of delicious cookies while explicitly referencing your web data is a great touch.
Absolutely love how you went into the parenthesis and the automation in Spamton's speech. Very good catch there!
Also, favorite toppings are pepperoni, olives and banana peppers, and give me something carbonated ;D
I really do appreciate the time you take to really express you're reactions and analyses to these songs.
As for my favorite toppings? Generally just peperoni, green peppers, and mushrooms. But if I'm feeling saucy I go with pineapple, peperoni, and jalapenos. It's a tasty tasty abomination against nature!
This song is at the same speed as my mind, when im not on my adhd meds
I love pizza with mushrooms and usually something milky to it. And I also so damn love the moment from the song on 15:21. This is such a damn cool animation, as a person who made himself a Spamton mask just froze with pleasure. Whole song is just ear heaven
Kudos to you researching what the song/game is about! So many are weirdly almost proud to go in not knowing anything. I mean I want your first time reaction but I prefer an informed first time reaction.
It’s so funny seeing someone who hasn’t played/see Chapter 2 consume content about it.
Loved your commentary on sales tactics and the breakdown of the song. Wish they warned kids of high pressure sales tactics in schools around where I live. My nieces and nephew could sure benefit from it. You got a new subscriber! =D
That little exhale you gave at the end was exactly how I felt after first listening to Ad Infinitum. Pure sensory overload. I'm pretty sure that "Gotta Have It" break-down left Rap God in the dust! Answer: As many different cheeses as possible, and a vanilla coke.
You give off chill college professor vibes, and I love them
btw, the sponge line is a reference to the game. Completed, it's "sponge who hates its [$4.99] life"
Garlic Prawns is my favourite topping, and maybe a cider to go with it ?
Without watching a single second of this video and just glimpsed the title ... I thought "is this a weird remix of a song of 'Ad Infinitum' ?"
Dave, I don't know if you have ever listened to band 'Ad Infinitum' with lead singer Melissa Bonny.
If you do, you may understand my confusion.
Back to this video ... this is crazy, a reality satire that fits alarmingly well in our time.
For the last question: dried tomatoes and red wine
I actually did figure that out when I thought the name of this game was that haha. I meant to mention that. Also thanks for being a real one!
Stupendium has a habit of referencing other songs in his song title, and then sounding nothing like them.
Bro you're like one of the few people I've seen actually try and dissect this song past "oh he's like an ad". I really like your insight, it was really interesting. :)
People have been hitting the general idea in the comments pretty hard so I'm gonna try and avoid that. However, I still like to think that I have some new insights anyway:
Normally, I find Stupendium's songs really easy to listen to. Hell, I've memorized some of them to the point of being able to almost perfectly recite them (I'm no rapper by a long shot). This one hit me like a fucking truck, and I'm having trouble just following along, let alone catching all the references. That, I'd argue, was exactly what he was going for, as that was the general vibe I got from Spamton. He felt as if he was trying to rush you, which is exactly what ads try to do to prevent you from thinking too much about them. The title, Ad Infinitium, translates to "To Infinity" if my memory of Latin is precise. That not only matches Spamton, it also is a clever pun about ads.
Not necessarily an important insight, but the video was also full of references to The Music Man. Lyrically and visually, I found at least four different references to "Ya Got Trouble" alone
I love that Spamton is (as the name implies) The personification of Spam Emails. Few bite but he assaults you relentlessly with advertisements and deals until you give in. The Whole Rap is just spoken Spam. A relentless onslaught of deals, promises and ads trying to win you over.
I love how even though you've never heard of Deltarune before, you've pretty much exactly nailed down the symbolism of Spamton's character from the song
I watched The Stupendium's video yesterday, but I didn't put together the pun on the phrase "ad infinitum" also referring to advertisements until you pointed it out!
It’s funny you say that cause I don’t know if the game so I missed all the references to that lol.
Okay wow, just three minutes in and that bit of coding insight about the concept of automating a blurb of ad text within the parentheses was genuinely really solid, I can see that being why the character speaks the way he does. Nice work trying to read into things man genuinely.
that was a great reaction and you're right about the point about reactions to stupendium songs being long, there's just so many things and points he slips into the lyrics and songs it's almost impossible to not take a while to listen to the songs the first time around.
keep up the great work
and regarding that comment at the end, for me it's most propably a mix of ham, pineapple and pepperoni also fits well on a pizza, and the drink i'd have with it is depends on what's available i guess but i think i'd probably just pick either some coca cola or "egils malt" maybe, egils malt being something we have here in iceland
I love this! You analyzing the song and details without knowing anything about the actual character is so interesting! You were able to completely figure out what the character is based off of so easily without knowing the characters backstory at all!
That is so cool to me!
Like I watching this song from the background of knowing the character and spent more time detailing the story stuff, that I missed all of the stuff you were able to pick up on! So cool!
Oh I loved this reaction! I’m really glad you talked about the advertisements piecing sentences together/the automation via coding- Stupes did a wicked impressive job, as always, with the commentary on current society within video game raps
Learned a lot by watching your video. Learned much about the details of how ads work and just how much attention to detail really was put into this song. Super thankful I clicked on your video! Wanted to see what everyone had to say about this song
There's actually a band also called AD INFINITUM. I would love to see your reaction to their music. My personal favorite song is Unstoppable. Hope you see this! Cheers bud!
holy [cungadero] seeing others perspectives on this is really facinating especially when your first introduction is as chaotic as spamton the bracket thing is so spot on oh my gosh
I’ve never heard anything like audio being replaced over something but now that you’ve said it, everything makes sense
Thank you for making this vid, this is one of my favorite game fan songs :D
My favorite pizza topping is tuna mayonnaise with lots of cheese. Drink can be a classic water (normal or iced) or iced chocolate, that's the best :3
It's truly impressive how analytical you are! Makes me really more aware about what ads are like, how they're constructed to get maximum engagement. ALSO i realized the "cat" rhymes onwards is like the auto-suggested stuff on asearch engine. The "word connect" parts (like "pipe bomb, bomber jacket", etc.) might be a reference to algorithms, since they connect what might not previously be connected. For example, if I watch a Deltarune video, I might be recommended anime videos, because Deltarune and anime has mutual fans. Anime and traditional Japanese music have "Japan" in common so they are recommended to me too. And then Japanese traditional music made me have recommendations for other countries' traditional music - super far from Deltarune, but tangentially connected. Awesome! :D
What It Do Dave, a basic rundown of the theme of the world is this, they're in a physical manifestation of the internet, the character that this song is about is called spamton, he's one of the pop-up salesmen, the brackets are the represent him using pop-up ads in his speech.
Also when they refer to the listener's heart, they are being quite litteral in that they mean the listener's heart shaped soul because that's what the combat revolves around.
This song is based on a video game I heard this song before watching the game too things like "we'll take your heart for free" was literal
Yesssssss it was so fun seeing your reactions to this!
Also re: your ending question, sausage pizza with a tall glass of milk :D
I really appreciate the way you react.
You actually vibe to the song and don’t stop every two seconds because you feel that you have to say something.
You listen
You hear
Then you speak.
my two favorite things about people experiencing this song:
- people seem split between "oh no this is overwhelming" and just dancing
- every reaction ive watched so far everyone dances to it exactly the same way (me included) 12/10
Pepperoni and milk, my good sir.
Geez Stupendium goes hard. And so does your analysis.
This song broke my entire brain, thanks for talking about it
Damn, I had no idea how much this song really hammers in that scam salesman vibe of Spamton. Great analasys!
Also, my favorite Pizza topping would be Chicken, and the drink would be orange Soda.
Ive already commented on this video, but when he says "sponge who hates its 4.99$, he immediaty says lifeboat, if you remove the boat part, it reads "sponge who hateshis 4.99$ life", which is what he says wheh he first encounters you
Not to mention there's a lot of references to the musical "Music Man". A story about a pitch/salesman inearly 1900's trying to sell instruments, to a small town in River City Iowa. Hence the line's Ya got trouble right here in Cyber City, as that is a direct reference to "Ya Got Trouble" The main character's sales pitch to the town in song, as he tries to get the townspeople to believe that a pool hall built by the mayor will corrupt the youth but he can save their innocence by starting a band for the children. Also, referenced in the "Heart-shaped Object in your community." Another direct reference to the song as that's how it opens "Either you're not aware, or are turning a blind eye, to the problems caused by the presence of a pool table in your community."
There's a more minor reference to another musical "The Pirates of Panzan" with the Model of a Modern Major General Store. as part of that, actually the majority is a title of a song, and it's chorus "Modern Major General." Where the chorus is "I am the very Model of a Modern Major General."
Fun fact, the "gotta have it" part is faster than the fastest part in rap god
Loved your breakdown man, got a subscriber.
Yeah, Spamton is a......... fascinating character to say the least.
I actually have some videos I would recommend.
First is the Shelter from the storm song from the stupendium, honestly you can choose any version you want, though I recommend the Animatic from Najsigt.
The next are 2 from a creator called Hobo Hobo, both relating to Spamton, simply called, Spamton's shop - animated, and Spamton Neo - animated. You don't have to react to these ones on video, but I would like to hear your thoughts on them.
The Last video I will bring up also has to do with Spamton, from relopro, called Spamton's backstory (DELTARUNE). Again, you can watch this on your own time, Just would like to hear your thoughts on it.
A good song that’s not as hectic I’d recommend is Hyperlink by Shadrow
it means sponge who hates its $4.99
the next line says life-boat so its "sponge who hates its $4.99 life"
its just like the other line that says "why wont mike call me"
but the next line says "backgammon"
also spamton said sponge since earlier in the song he said "Dont you wanna have some fun, little sponge" and in the game he says "why have your $4.99 life"
this is a few months late, but I'm pretty sure the "it burns" part is a reference to how everyone has firewalls now to protect their computers
It was very nice to watch someone who hasn't played Deltarune react to this; while you may not have seen the myriad of references stupendium worked in, you are unbiased in a way.
The Stupendium makes some of the best songs! I've been playing this song for weeks and still haven't learned all the words. I'm sure I could if I paused it in the middle, but man I don't want to especially when he gets into one of those rhyme schemes! What's even more fun than watching his video? Watching reaction videos! Some people's brains just shutdown, lol it's so funny.
BTW my favorite pizza topping is [classic] pepperoni. What makes it different from pepperoni? It's the type that curls up into those cup shapes. And to drink, would be a toss up over an ice cold root beer or wild cherry Pepsi.
"YOU KEEP USING THAT WhORD... I DO NOT THINK IT MEANS WHAT YOU THINK IT MEANS."
-Inigo Montoya
also, about what you said with hating the price, there's actually this fable about it called "The fox and the grapes" which kinda explains that whole point
with him dont knowing the game he has a very different perspective on the puns and words that are being said i love it
I gotta give this video a like, just for the stuff you explained. seriously, nicely done
Damn man your pulling stuff from the video I haven't seen from anyone else. Good stuff
you deserve bonus points for that starting speech of research of ads and the game.
(also in the game the heart is a central theme, you play as a heart in battle and it represents your soul)
I realised 'Bro, what's up with this Mortal Kombat kind of synth hit right here?' is you just asking 'Why do I hear boss music?' and it made my day.
I always get a pan pizza with buffalo sauce, grilled chicken, and onion slices. Add a cherry Mtn Dew, and I’m set for the night
A few months late, but one thing I figured about the Haves and Haven't section. I believe that it's a commentary on Spamton himself, being such a BIG SHOT that everyone adored and wanted to buy from, only to be tossed into the Garbage because "the trend is out of fashion." No one even mentions him anymore until they hear about his demise.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but this was a W reaction. Ad Infinitum is one of my favourite Stupendium songs and it was cool to see how you analysed it! Also, I like meatlovers pizza with vanilla coke :)
Im glad that you were instantly able to pick up on Spamtons deal without knowledge of Deltarune the game. I think that’s a testament to Stupendiums lyrical ability As a bunch of lines in this song were lifted directly from the game yet they work seamlessly in the context of the song (big shot is his catchphrase. The references to the phone and Mike is Spamton breaking character to allude his dark and cryptic backstory)
The character of Spamton is insanely cool and weird and Stupendium has portrayed him perfectly whilst adding his own spin!
always love your point of view on these,. also, pepperoni and root beer or sprite if I am not in the mood for a darker pop/ soda
