The Stupendium said they rerecorded the tarot card guy's voice (2nd verse) after the lamb screaming (3rd verse), because their voice was all hoarse from that.
i love how the whole song starts with a "sad little guy chained and crying for being a sacrifice " and at the end of the song, the brainwash is so successful, that now same little guy is not even chained nor crying, but actually happy to be sacrificed
two things yes your right hehe but that's the point of the game. and that sad little guy is Sstupendium's avatar for this music video. most of the time he plays the lead character in the video but for this the lamb had to take centre stage.
The best part about this song is in Cult of the Lamb you dont have to sacrifice anyone in your congregation. It can really just be a fun festival like island where everyone can live peacefully
If you had a chance to have a million dollars, but people must die, there would be many unmarked graves. Unless you simply are above/ separate from human emotion, we all would do something horrible to further our own leads/homes. And would definitely see if anyone would agree with us. And and soon as any proof that “we did that right thing” comes out, any worry about what was sacrificed for it would be gone.
I feel like another thing with that "For whom love is unconditional" line is that you have to pay your way into the "unconditional" love. If you're part of the "In" crowd, the people that are truly devoted, then you get treated exceptionally well, but as soon as you falter you get tossed aside for those who are more willing.
I currently believe (although I haven't played the entirety of the game) that the being talking to the Lamb over the tarot cards isn't truly a mentor or patron figure, just an amoral bystander to this universe who can see that the Lamb is both a being semi-willingly possessed by the Red Crown and a figure being controlled in a video game and is asking what the Lamb's (and indirectly the player's) beliefs on free will and destiny are out of legitimate curiosity rather than any interest in manipulating events.
During the part with the Tarot cards he says; "The cards you want are OFTEN DRAWN but SELDOM EVER DEALT" - You have an idea for your future but are never given the opportunity to see it (a dealer draws your cards but only deals the ones they want) Great reaction btw!
I saw "The cards you want are often drawn but seldom dealt" as in like "You rarely start with everything you want and need, but they can be attained down the line.
The tarot card guy's name is Klaunek, and hes actually pretty chill, a breakdown of the lyrics are essentially calling the lamb just as much of a slave to the one who waits as the cult is.
I like how every time the Lamb does something overtly evil or manipulative to his cultists, he's shown in the red-eye look. The brief glimpse of it in the confessional is very much telling, since many real-world cult leaders use "confidential" discussions like that with their followers to manipulate and blackmail them into doing their will. It's a blatant violation of trust but by this time the convert is so indoctrinated and brainwashed that they have no defense against it. Overall, Stupes' portrayal of a cult leader is terrifyingly accurate.
I love the effects he used like the whispery nature of the first line of the second chorus. Also the hilarious subscribe end read where he talks like the sheep and "baa-ing" his words
Around 12:30 what you may be referring to is 'word salad'; confused or unintelligible mixture of seemingly random words and phrases. If a person's speech use of it is unintentional, it's usually a sign of a possible mental disorder. However in this instance (and in context of the purpose of it in the song) 'narcissistic word salad' is a type of purposefully confusing speech, using circular reasoning, logical fallacies and other rhetorical devices to disorient and manipulate a person or group. Which makes sense considering for most of the song the happy notes, fast pace, and tones can distract from a lot of what's being said until the end of it. That 'point of no return moment' when a casual listener can actually follow the lyrics now, and they're grim, but it's the 'end' of the song (and the audiences' involvement in the cult) so it's too late.
"Ne're the wealthy ever left ground" The amount of cleverness that line has is amazing: Jesus _did_ say it's impossible for a rich person to enter heaven. A cult leader would twist that to get all of their followers to give all their money away.
Omg, I laughed at the Ghost Rider comment... it isn't as far off as you might think! The Sheep wasn't evil (at first), he was about to be unjustly killed, and was saved by "He who waits beneath". But he was possessed by the crown which gives him great powers (ghost rider power) in exchange for killing the "Old gods" who imprisoned him (Hell''s bounty hunter). Of course, just like the Devil likes to use honeyed words to corrupt, over the course of the game you get tons of ways to do evil in exchange for quick and easy power. Most sheep fall, because gaining that power through normal means takes a LOT longer, and without it you wont succeed in killing the Old gods. You CAN take the Power of the crown and use it for good, but that is the hardest way to play.
The good cult leader is my way to play even if it is harder I just can not be bothered to be the bad or evil cult leader my cult is a family that's why I'm sad that in every song and everything he is just evil with his good side just being a mask
Mh I don't know everywhere they are considered genderless or unknown and every follower refers to them as they/them but the devs use he in the steam forums I mean he even has horns so it would make sense unless it's species is special...don't get me wrong this isn't a argument and I would love some clarification but to be honest I just consider them as none of my business and stop thinking about it...

Also an interesting line at 9:48 "we've never met an yet we meet again" which is actually said in-game, though it may be a reference to how he knew you'd show up due to him basically using the tarrot cards to predict the future or something. "The cards we want are often drawn but seldom ever dealt" is probably saying the chance for what you want to happen is often possible, but rarely occurs. The guy in game does offer advice and uses the cards to boost your abilities in combat areas, but doesn't really take any direct action in-game.

Well, there are a few types of reactions, those who mumble over the song and don't say anything else, those who comment about the structure of the song and look at it from a musician perspective, then there's yours, looking at what the song is actually conveying and thinking on that. I like yours the best. Keep doing what you're doing

i found you maybe about a month ago but have fallen into a hole of your reactions because i just love the way you get indepth with what you think and pull from the bars and lyrics even looking deeper past them just being about a video game cause i love stupendium and dan bull and have always looked past the lyrics just being about the games and finding grounds to relate them to the real world and you heart all the comments which is just amazing. you have now become what runs in my youtube when i just have it playing and i just find myself enjoying every video
So the guy with the tarot cards says something a long the lines of "Your cards are often drawn, but rarely dealt." This basically is telling me that you make your own chooses and aren't bound by a destiny. As the song goes on to ask if the Lamb even believes in the idea of destiny or fate, I would say that is a good take of lyrics.
Also i believe the preaching segment your thinking of is the brimstone sort of speak, building to the fervor. Reminds me of the frostpunk battle he had with Dan bull
8:21 Yeah, like in Catholic churches we all go to the confession to repent our sins to the priest, or sometimes we confess our sins in prayer at home or anywhere else.😌
adding some extra analysis for tarot guy's bit incase anyone's interested: the tarot reader is this owl man named Clauneck who believes fate is nothing but an unchangeable straight line, as told to him by the cards. what he's saying in the lyrics is essentially "are you doing this because you want to or because you have no other choice?" alongside just overall questioning the lamb's moral compass. the line "pray that they may shift amidst the rhapsody of haro's wings" refers to the fact that the character Haro provides context to *why* the one who waits is imprisoned in the first place, which happens to reveal that toww is mainly the one in the wrong and not the bishops. i think he's speaking in a complete nonsense way because of his weirdly poetic way of talking ingame.
The line about "Pray you might remain upon the list of all the cherished chosen children for whom love is unconditional" isn't saying he's recruiting literal children but refers to the habit of religions and cults to call the faithful the "children" of god or to call the head priest their "father". Using the template of a parent and child relationship encourages blind devotion and obedience on the congregation's part with the promise of being cherished and protected like a beloved child in return by the god or cult leader. After all, children are young and far too naïve to make big decisions for themselves, so it's best to leave the decisions in your "father's" hands since he's so much bigger and wiser, right? /s It also carries with it the unspoken agreement that your "father" has the right to punish you for disobedience.
whats ironic is the ghost rider comment is more close then you think you do have the option in the end to submit you your diety after freeing him in which he consumes your entire cult to regain his godhood OR you can turn on him and usurp him in direct combat keeping your former god behind as a immortal shadow of there former shelves looking like the other cutesy animal acoltyes forced to follow your will absolutly.
