Frustrating when you receive second or lesser quality items.
You handled it perfectly and keep us updated on Shepard Hills response.
I have had good responses with previous dealings but never to return a knife.
For future reviews, I find it interesting the SMKW is finding USA knife makers to produce slip joints under the QUEEN banner that they own instead of continuing with off shore courses.

I just received a shipment from Shep Hills this past Saturday, the 20th. Got the full size trapper and the stockman in mahogany peach seed. I was disappointed in the build and finish on my trapper big time. I was considering doing a rant video about it. 2nd disappointment out of the past 3 Case purchases. Already did one on the first one. After seeing yours I think I'll go ahead and do one on this latest purchase. Case is really dropping the ball!!

I feel they are milking the legacy of their name and destroying it at the same time. They really need to work on quality control. Shame. But in other news, the rough ryder small stockman with bone scales I'm carrying right now is awesome and it was 15 bucks. And my pre 2000 Case knives are great, as is my Buck collection. And Moras never disappoint. Victorinox has always had it dialed in. Benchmades are great. Spiderco knives are fantastic...

I've got Case knives from the 70's and up. Even the 70's knives aren't GEC quality on the finish. They're better than the modern models, but Case has never really made GEC quality knives and the prices reflect that. With GEC and now China pumping out very high quality knives, Case does need to step it up.

Love that Case Pen knife!. I had a bad Case Knife recently from SMKW, It was a Stockman with blades that wouldn't close properly. No tension at all on the Spey blade. I don't know how they could've sent that knife out from the factory. Many of the newer jigged knives have dented bolster ends. I'd love to see any Case knife reviews but especially smaller patterns.

I just bought t new yellow bone first production run mini-trapper with the wharncliff blade.major gaps, and the wharncliffe blade had a pretty bad wobble to it. I sent it back and the seller told me that all the other ones had gaps just as bad. I told them as long as the lockup is tight I'd take it. I don't know if they sent me a different knife or just tightened up the original and sent it back to me.
I ju hope for the best with Case. If I don't order on line then I wouldn't be able to buy. They just don't have much of a local presence. I like a lot of their offerings but that mini-trapper wasn't the only Case disappointment I can't say if I'll continue buying Case. I'd like to support American but it seems like they just aren't worth it. Unfortunately they just don't have any competition in their market outside of Bear & Sons, and I wouldn't consider them much of a competitor due to their limited lineup.

Buy a Rough Rider......never had a bad one. However, not quite the same feel as a Case. Thats why many folk are prepared to put up with Case made in the good old USA. You pays your money and takes your choice......or with Case knives, you take your choice and a gamble.

Occasionally QC slips.... I do like the colors and blade profile with that sweet upsweep..... Sucks about the fit up and edge.... I was recently disappointed with a SMKW exclusive Buck 110 in S45VN with the burlap micarta handles.... the edge grind is atrocious, blade off center.... I would send back but I really like the materials and they sold out immediately. Its either keep it, fix what I can and live with the rest or send it back and do without. At least with Case you have a good chance to get a better one on replacement.

Sorry to see yet another Case knife with quality control problems. It even appears that after making a less than high-quality piece they tried to doctor it up in hopes the buyer wouldn't notice. Personally I don't buy any new Case knives on line do to their hit and miss quality. If they want to charge premium prices they need to address this continuous trend.

Yeah, I’m not surprised the new case is underwhelming. I bought a new Old Timer just for nostalgia sake and it looked like it was built by a drunk kid. Dull as hell and the scales are so much higher than the bolsters, it’s now the crappiest knife I own. Even worse than my old Pakistani Buck copy.

@@JohnKlahr , Yep. That goes back to when I was a kid. Pakistan used to make copies of the Buck 110. Me and all my friends had one. No model number on it, it just says “Stainless Pakistan” on the blade. It actually gets really sharp but the fit and finish is shoddy. We used to oil the pivot with cutting oil and work the blade until it was so loose you could flip it open like a switchblade. I’m surprised you never heard about these. They were a really popular cheap knife around Chicago.

    CASE vs Rough Ryder.
I will take my Rough Ryder Classic Carbon Trappers at $10 each over the CRAP that Case is turning out since reopening after COVID.
Say whatever, talk till you are blue in the face. A $10 Rough Ryder will out cut most new Case knives all day long. And the finish work on the knives is WAY better.
    T10 (1095) vs Case's whatever.....Ill take that $10 T-10 every single day.
