In each duplicated chromosome 2 chromatids are exact copy of each other and are known as sister chromatid. These chromatid seperate in Mitosis to form two daughters. Each daughter will have 1 chromtid out of two and as these chomatids were similar so they are exact copy of parent . In Meisis crossing over takes place in Prophase so Chromatids are not similar so all 4 daughter are different.

@@xsterawesome this is taught in college biology, a very small section but still taught. Meiosis and mitosis is something that will continue to reappear throughout all of your bio courses. Plus its always good to refresh your memory. I am a bio major and love all of the amoeba sisters videos.
@@abdiazizhassan7467 The thing these kids don't yet realize, is it's not the material itself that makes college hard, it's the pace and every other class you have to take along with them. For instance, yes, we're covering mitosis/meiosis, but we're also covering ncRNAs and all the specific functions they each perform and then what happens if they don't work right etc. The depth of knowledge is greater than anything I studied in high school.
I honestly always felt so embarrassed for not fully understanding these basic processes, and now that I'm in biochemistry my professor skips over this stuff thinking everyone knows it.... you've changed that! Thank you so much for your amazing videos :')

Thank you so much! Watching these videos, which are mostly under 10 minutes, helps me with my biology class so much. Biology used to be my least favorite class because I never understood it and was constantly stressed out, but these videos have made biology one of my favorite classes. The animations are funny and I've been a lot more confident and less stressed going into tests. This channel has really helped me ease my anxiety because I can be confident even if I don't know everything, I still know a lot and I'm able to explain it. I recommend these videos to everyone struggling in biology.

This side by side explanation is so dang helpful! I have my second Bio10 exam next week covering several subjects, including meiosis and mitosis. When put side by side like this, you can really see the obvious differences. Seeing that meiosis PMAT 2 is similar to mitosis PMAT 1 really helped me flesh out the differences and similarities. Mind blown over the zygote immediately starting mitosis, I was curious about this. So meiosis is JUST for creating sperm and egg, and once sperm and egg meet, it's back to mitosis. Awesome! I think why this video makes so much sense is that it explains the rather nuanced details that may confuse some individuals. These details are so necessary to be explained that otherwise would make the whole thing impossible to understand. It's like a chain reaction.

Your videos help me understand some of the hardest things in Biology, so thank you for all that you do. Soon, you should make a video comparing translation and transcription (if it works well) which is another one of those tricky topics in Biology.
