Thank you Dylan and Baez - you restore the soul with your voices during this pandemic when we miss our greatest loves. My only soul mate, Lou - he was a writer, Educator, pianist, photographer - humanitarian, Consultant who died in 2019. My dear colleague/friend, Noreen - Human Resources Change Agent, Humanitarian, Advocate for the underserved, Civil Rights Activist - infectious laugh - great inner spirit who died late 2021 - and to my Dear Parents always inclusive and family oriented, life was precious to them as they incurred so many losses in their own lives. - I can't reach any of you anymore and I am heartbroken - but these soulful voices remind me of you.
The most exciting and gorgeous duet ever sung. This is a beauty of a song. .but their ability to create harmony together goes deep in my bones. There is other footage that remarkable,as well...especially watching them work out a harmony. .
OMG!!! I've Always Loved this song Soo MUCH!!! I just wanna keep playing it over n over This is My Favorite album of Dylan's! So Happy that it's on RUclips
Dylan is perfect now and then and in different ways - he is human, after all, but this particular song goes way back at least a century or more, to anonymous Scotland and England, and various bards have contributed to it.
I remember having bought in the late 70s a white bootleg with 4 songs from Renaldo and Clara recorded during the Rolling Thunder Review. For promotion only was written on the cover.
Oh My God. This has got to be for someone else. I can't deal with this anymore. Why me Lord? Why are You moving my spirit like this, and making me cry? I was okay before Lord why you open another door? This hurts. You Said You'd Protect me Lord. Never again I'd cry over a man. Too much to deal with when You're Coming Lord and this world dying out. I'm not this strong Lord. Help me Jesus. v
Most of the time harmony singers work to stay softer, in the background. In this song Joan is sometimes in the background, sometimes much more prominent in the mix. This seems to add an additional element to the performance, almost a tension as from one note to the next you don't know where she (or he) is going to be.
Anti-WAR songs are needed so the young man resisting army training KNOWS many people support a conscientious objector. Don't support war in foreign lands

I compared different versions of this traditional. Most of them are boring and depressing. One guy (michael morrison, in gaelic) has a decent version with a nice guitar part. This Rolling Thunder version is great because of the steel guitar acting as a second voice. The asymmetrical "duet" I also like, but that is not even the main thing here. It is a lovely tune, but it seems it can easily be "killed". (death by pathos so to say).
Robert Zimmerman is not the talented man he is made out to be, simply put he csnt sing, he put pen on paper thoughts we all have and that's not enough. Cant play csnt sing.
You say he has thoughts we all have, Can you point me to some of your great thoughts that you made into songs that people will still be listening to in 40 years? No i didn't think so,
@@karenmorris5433 I have had many great thought sadly not put to song. You are correct in that, yet he cannot sing or play too well. He isn't Paul Simon.

Masterpiece
"I leaned my back up against an oak
Thinking it was a trusty tree
But first it bends and then it broke
Just like my own false love to me"
Lots of covers don’t sing this part. It’s one of the best parts of the song too
Just gorgeous performance
Another Beautiful one! ❤

Nice and flowing , great stuff like Bob said > » me and Joan could sing together in our sleep «

Good evening 🌆 Rockstar legend ✴️
Just noticed how sexy his eyes are ... Very nice 🙂

👍👌👏👏👏
I love this and I'm a sucker for Jack Elliot's steel pedal playing this.
...word....
Dont think Jack Elliot plays steel guitar...more likely to be David Mansfield who was the multi-instrumentalist
Whoever played steel on these recordings deserves some recognition. I Shall Be Released is another standout
