That actress (the mom) is Vera Farmiga and she's amazing. From The Conjuring franchise to Bates Motel, if she is in something, you pretty much can't go wrong. 💕

When the movie first came out it didn't get the recognition it deserved, only when people gave it a chance to watch it, people realise its actually a great movie. If you react to First Kill perhaps save it for Spooktober
I didn't give it a chance until 2020 because I alreadt knew the twist with knowing tge real life event that inspired it. But after watching it I still found it pretty good.
There's an alternate ending where the girl is still alive singing to herself when the police come. I honestly thought that would've been better. Isabelle Fuhrman and Vera Farmiga did an excellent job here.
Fun fact: In the scene where sister Judith calls about Sister Abigails disappearance if you look in the window you can see Esther there before she walks away
This movie was by far one of the best psychological horror thrillers I’ve ever seen! so many twists that made this different from all the others I’ve seen before, and for Isabelle Fuhrman to return as Esther again in first kill after so long is just incredible
Vera Farmiga. I love her. She’s SO good in “Bates Motel”. Which by the way is super extremely underrated. It’s such a great show. Try and give it a watch if you haven’t. I’d say maybe react too, but for some reason I think it’s difficult to. Like I think others have tried to but they got taken down or something? Idk but amazing show. Trust !
This movie is actually inspired by true case that happened in my country (Czech Republic) when grown woman pretended to be 13 years old girl and was adopted- it's really creepy and horrible case. They also used famous Czech actor Karel Roden, who is the doctor that tells Ester is grown woman.
Interesting to see what they do with the prequel since the actress is 13 years older now. I feel this is pretty niche, but I really enjoyed it personally
the actress actually looks almost the same and all the other actor are wearing a very high heels boots to look taller than her, you can find the picture on twitter.
I just want to write that my name is Josh and i want to write that Orphan First Kill came out in 2022 and its actually a really good prequel film too and it deserves to get first time reaction videos on youtube.
The fact that Isabella was 12 yrs old when she played Esther was insane. I was so amazed by how well she's playing the character that I couldn't find myself hating her even when she was being a total demon to the mom.
Based on a true story, I saw the documentary before knowing "Orphan" existed, so the twist was kind of ruined for me, but "First Kill" had a new twist I didn't see coming that worked.
Great reaction, glad you enjoyed it. If you haven’t already, check out The Good Son with Macaulay Culkin and Elijah Wood from 1993. Similar premise and also well acted.
When Esther tries to seduce the father I found that scene to be so uncomfortable. Like ew ew ew that is gross and it gave me chills. When she said “Let me take care of you John” I literally went “EWWWW”. Definitely one of the best horror reveals.
One of the rare horror movies where when they said "You will never guess her secret!" they were actually not lying to us. Usually we can see the "twists" a mile away before their reveals...not this one! We ALL got blindsided by it and honestly it was a pleasant surprise in an age where we think we've seen all ideas executed. =)
I was 14, a freshman in high school when this joint came out. I went into it blind and came out shocked. I still haven’t seen anything quite like it to this day and it’s aged well for me. Esther is a horror icon, imo.
Little Easter Egg: When Esther is smothering Daniel (the son), she puts his pulse monitor on her own finger. During said process, her own pulse doesn’t rise at all
Orphan is one of the greatest psychological horror movies of all time. It was something new, fresh, unique, inventive, stylish, cool, edgy, hip, and updated such as the concept and themes. The tone and element was scary, creepy, spooky, eerie, dark, gritty, urban, and gothic which works perfectly for the movie. That twist still gives me chills and goosebumps. 😰😱 Isabelle Fuhrman did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Esther Coleman as she put tons of emotion and depth into her role. It was decent. To this day I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old. 😍😎💯👍
Great reaction!! If you liked this one, I recommend The Good Son from the 90's. It has a similar plot and tone with a different kind of twist. Not quite as scary as this, but fairly equivalent creep factor. And it has Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin!
Yes!! I love this movie as much as it creeps me out! It’s sooo underrated, that young actress is playing a 30 year old woman playing a child, it’s amazing! There are a couple of cases in real life like this, where two women pretend to be a child, one happened in the US the other in the Czech Republic, both are so creepy and terrified 😱 great, great reaction!!
This actually happened too! If you look it up a similar story came out some years ago they compared it to this and now there's a prequel called Orphan: first kill
Orphan: First Kill has Isabelle Fuhrman return to reprise the Esther role. The production calls for no CGI, Deepfake, or de-aging for the adult Fuhrman. The filmmaker will utilize the practical effects same technique used in the LOTR trilogy of forced perspective to help create the illusion that Fuhrman is a child.
Glad you had such a good time with this one. The twist blew my mind when I saw it back in 09, I really didn’t see it coming. Can’t wait for your reaction to first kill
I saw this movie a few years ago - not expecting much, but it turned out to be such an intelligent thrill ride. I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie (like "Aliens"). Great acting, great direction and dialog and the actress who played Esther was amazing. I wish more people knew about this movie. It's now one of my all-time favorites and I've watched it several times now.
That was cool. You seeing the image that changes with black light, and observing it's akin to Ester herself, the whole movie hiding her other side, the sweet side with the evil side. But additionally, she is doing that with her age as you will of course later find out.
21:30 exactly. That’s something that always drove me nuts about this movie. He said that as if they had been trying to tell their parents the whole time. But they literally did the opposite.
Vera Farmiga is currently on an Apple TV show called "Five Days at Memorial" and it's fantastic. Strongly recommend it. As for this movie, I really love it, especially the twist, and I loved revisiting it through your reaction.
Vera Farmiga is one of my all time favorite actresses and if she's in something I just know it's gonna be good. I'm still not over how good she was in Bates Motel and I would recommend that you watch it, it's so good.
Great job with the reaction. Orphan was an awesome movie even though I haven't seen the recently released prequel yet. I read on the imdb that the original script featured more info about Esther's past. For starters, it was explained that Esther was sexualized at a very early age by her biological father, which caused her dwarfism. When she killed him and another lover, she was sent to saarne. This also explained why she tries to seduce her other adoptive father’s. After escaping from Saarne, she had a stint as a prostitute until she was eventually arrested. To stay out of jail, she kept up the pretense of being a child and was sent to the orphanage, kicking off the events of the film. Also in the original script, Esther actually succeeded in killing Daniel at the hospital. John's death was originally more brutal.
What tripped me out most was learning that the actress who plays Esther was born in Washington, DC. I wouldn’t even begin to know how to do and keep up a Russian accent as a kid lol
I watched this today before watching your review and I had the same reaction as you. I put off watching this for so long because I thought it didn't look very good, but I actually really enjoyed it!
Just my opinion nostalgia aside the new one is insane I liked it the twist is even better and some how without spoiling you kinda root for her solid 8/10 so they didn't don't worry they drop the ball on the new prequel (just my opinion)
Overall, I felt the reveal about Esther near the end actually hurts the movie more than adds to it. When kids who are actual kids commit violent crimes, it's profoundly more disturbing compared to adults doing the same acts. Orphan is still a good film, don't get me wrong. But compared to The Good Son, the latter stuck out with me more.
This movie took inspiration from a real life event. I knew of it before watching this movie. I put off watching it until 2020 because I didn't know if I'd like it because I already knew of the twist. But to my suprise I still liked it.
This movie is freaking crazy! I miss the days when horror films actually got R ratings. Nowadays most horror films are rated PG-13 to appeal to younger audiences and most of all, for the studios make more money.

I think the opposite. It's neat how Ester blurs that line, though, deliberately. Makes it sound plausible that she meant it in a sweet way, but really it was a back-handed statement meant to cut/hurt her, in retaliation for her phoning about her. It's also at a time where it's plausible she is not the villain, so the duality and difficulty judging it is pretty cool. The bird thing isn't enough to conclude anything IMO. I think the bully-push already had happened, which was pre-meditated. That seems concerning, but it's not enough yet to be sure she is like a horror movie villain.
Awesome! Commenting before I watch. I always want people to react to this. But only like 1 other one has. This is a good movie. I personally enjoy it a lot. Still waiting for the new one.
@@ryanmalarik4398 oh okay I’ll take another look and see. Have you seen Chuuzus’ reaction? He’s absolutely hysterical. Takes a bit to get used to his accent. But he’s a nice guy and so so funny

She’s really good. Too good. It hurt her career. I don’t like that Max wouldn’t tell her mom and dad about the Nun. She is old enough to know right from wrong. I don’t like that they showed her having super power strength to subdue all of these adults, just because she older. You’re right, they told you right from the beginning that she’s a psycho. The real drama comes from how is this family going to survive her.

I don’t like that they showed her having super power strength to subdue all of these adults, just because she older. You’re right, they told you right from the beginning that she’s a psycho. The real drama comes from how is this family going to survive her.
We are scared of the lightning.
