This allows us in warmer climates to better understand the full wintering capabilities of bees. The more we know the better bee keepers we can all be. Thanks for your efforts, Ian, and your willingness to teach.
Lovely video Ian, really tells the story of how it’s all done over the winter and how your experience tells you when to Move! Yes Indeed, the final shots of the bees flying are a relief! The clock is already ticking!! Great job!💥👌🏻🐝🐝🐝🐝
You shouldn't learn about the bees from commercial beekeepers. Find someone who keeps the bees because of love for them. There you will learn how to respect those fascinating creatures in first place.
OMG when you open up those hives after this long winter...they are just monsters !!! I wish my colonies would be that strong, eventually the strongest are on 5/7 frames but more likely to wake up over 3/4 if not less...thanks to your tips this year i've tried to build up a better automn nest so lets see...Cheers Ian
Здравствуйте. Я вот смотрю и не пойму это вы завозите пчел сейчас или раньше и откуда их привезли? Как то непонятно откуда пчелы приехали? За видео лайк. Дочка у вас веселая, так держать, позитив всегда хорошо. Hello. I look and I do not understand that you are importing bees now or earlier and where did they come from? As it is not clear where the bees come from? Like the video. Daughter you have fun, keep it up, positive is always good.

Within this long months of winter, you shown us the outlet of the fan moisture coming out.. do you need to supply the bees with water? They drink water or just pure honey when they feel thirsty?
Good job with indoor winter beekeeping. Looks like a lot of investment of time and money. So your syrup feeding now gets you till april? Aren't you afraid of bees running out of food once you have them out in the field with snow on the ground? How did you know how much ventilation to provide? That many bees generates a tremendous amount of heat. Do you have back up generators incase you lose power?
Have you tried to have your bees outside during the winter.. I keep bees in scandinavia and over here close to every beekeeper keeps the bees outside all the winter. I guess we have about the same climate. The Hives gets completly covered in snow. Do you have many winter losses? Interesting to see how you do stuff.
I've been told that we should keep 60 lbs of honey in the hives for our bees to overwinter outside (in Ohio USA). Is that what you're seeing having them inside or are you finding they require less food stores? Did I miss that part of the video?
Do you only feed in the fall before putting them on the shed I feed In fall and by February they are out of food and I'm needing to feed again Also why are you only using one brood box I start my winter with 2 brood box full by spring there is very small amount left please give me some feed back
Hello, I’m a NE Wyoming beekeeper, I’m curious about the success of the Saskatraz queens, what do you think of their mite resistance? How do they compare in your opinion to the Italians and Carnis?
It doesn't look like you feed the bees while they're in the shed. No sugar or pollen. They seem to be only brood boxes and I'm wondering how there would be enough resources to carry them for the five months or so they're indoors.
In the winter they don't have any sugar or pollen in nature anyway. You just can't take everything away from them. There's roughly 10-15 times as much honey and pollen in the box as bees, by weight, at the beginning of the winter. A fair number of bees die over the winter, but there's enough food to last. Using calories, the boxes contain something like 80 - 90,000 calories in honey, and that has to feed a couple of kilograms of bees at a very low metabolic level for 5 months, so they've got 500 calories per day to work with, more or less.

What about.... Using the heat and humidity the bees generate. Construct nearby greenhouse. Catch the water. Plumb the arm air underground under the greenhouse. Or/also/selectively even pre stage heat air for next room.
thanks, I watched this video, (Single brood nest management while pulling the last honey off) very interesting. the composition of the dough is sugar and pollen? or is there anything else? thank you so much for your kindness
A very impressive setup, keep up the good work!!

Btw, my bees survived the blast of Canadian cold we got this past week. Come on March.
WOW! This is amazing, the dedication to keeping the bees healthy and warm! Impressive

thank you for letting us follow you through a winter season
Your dad is a hard worker
Thanks again Ian. It would be interesting to look at the bees with an infrared camera...
love that roar ! I'm only starting out 2019, backyard beekeeping, 2/4 hives.

We are not importing bees, we are wintering our own bees

Wow i would think they would starve without a box of honey on top.But im in Florida not Canada.Do ya have any honey in that brood nest?
Nothing like the humm of a hive

If you didn't use a heated warehouse to store the colonies what would your losses be?
BeeFriendlyApiary
Some will argue the same wintering losses indoors vs outside
But I feel the variability is evened out
I also hate wrapping hives
Hello. How long does he stay in the room?
Temperature measurements are Celsius? Watching this vid in the USA where Fahrenheit temps are in use.
I'm curious also. I can convert if you would be so kind to tell us
Have you ever pulled some weight readings on some hives when you get them out of the shed?

What have yu done to ensure bees have enough food supply in each hive?
get a roomba to clean up bees?
Sir, is dehydration of the bees a concern during winter? If so how do you address it?

Why don't you just vacuum up the dirty hive so it doesn't spread disease?
