I admire a person who does what they love to do> I used to want to go commercial but found finances were not sufficient to do so, and so I am a hobbyist for 30 years. Now I can't do too heavy work. But I LOVE the bees especially collecting a wild swarm. and trying to keep ahead of my girls to head off an unwanted swarm. Great video. It gives me a sense of what I missed, but am so happy to still be able to keep several hives and teach aspiring beekeepers. Thanks young man. Rick in Pa.
Excellent. Well done! Describes the cycle of the northern Canadian beekeeper clearly and concise. Some years the spring warmth comes a couple weeks earlier. Some it is a few weeks later. Nonetheless, the bee schedule doesn't change much, especially the month of May. Thanks for laying it out so well!
Thank you for the video! I'm glad that I found your channel. It's nice to hear that you make time for your family. I am fascinated with the bees, I'm learning and building my apiary up to a manageable number and then I will decide on whether or not I would like to do it full-time. I can see how it could get out of hand really fast and make me wish that I still had my job. Thank you for speaking the truth.
Great video. Thank you for sharing your beekeeping experience/method/technique. You do save time in not having to wrap and unwrap the hives by storing them indoor during winter. Most of us small beeks won't have that storage facilities. I do agree with your feeding supplements that helps the bees to be healthy so they can live and work and fight diseases and make better/healthy bees.
Hello. I am a beginer from Romania and I watch with much interest your videos. Beekeepers in Romania say it is not ok to bulk feed the bees in September, but in the second half of August, because it wear the bees that will go though the winter. What is your opinion about this position? Thank you and God bless!
Hello, I took the advantage of your videos since couple of years; I've seen this one at least 3 times and any time new understanding and feed. About early feed with dry soy flour in open drums is there any risk for robbing between families? THX Ian.
a Canadian Beekeeper’s Blog Mann Lake has a product they call Winter patties they say does not promote brood and they have another product called pollen Patty designed to be fed in late winter which has all the goodies you talk about for brood rearing. Thank you. Your series is sincerely helpful to me and I am sure many others.
What are the bees doing in the winter...in the shed? I've never seen anything like this? How do they do cleansing flights? This makes me want to build another shed!
Another very helpful video... Just one question I have that you haven’t mentioned in your video is do you move your bees to sunflower fields as well or is that not available in your area? And if how many supers can they fill?
Hi Ian, i am wondering if you have hive beetle where you are. Here in Australia i find it hard to feed a pollen pattie to hives without hive beetle going crazy for the hive that have it. Can you please get back to me it would be much appreciated.

He said soy flour for the spring dry feed.
Thanks super helpful video!
Great video, I love all your videos! Could you share, what do you use against mites in april and in august?
Have you ever considered adding brewers yeast for protein? We found it added the nutrients without the added moisture in the hive..

Another fantastic video that definitely helped me. One question on the patties. Are they what would be considered pollen patties or winter patties?
Not sure what winter patties are
I feed protein supplement
High CP , fats, min, vitamins and sugars

Just one question I have that you haven’t mentioned in your video is do you move your bees to sunflower fields as well or is that not available in your area?

What is the name of the lift device out the back of your truck? That looks like it would save a lot of back work in the field.
Thank you.
What do you think about being foundationless as a commercial beekeeper? Not for honey supers just brood box
Why do the Bees Dead during Pollination ..? i hear that some beekeepers lost max of 90% of their hives
Question: Do you see evidence of honey bees being more docile around the same people every day? Hope that question makes sense.

A pollen patty in australia should be called a hive beetle lure, we cant use them here in qld without having beetles laying eggs
What's your thoughts on your timeline working roughly the same in mid west Ohio?
Putting your bees in the shop, what do the temperatures get in your state? I live in Tenn., most of the time it's not that cold.
I second this question. Curious about cleansing flights.
👍
-29 the good old days!
I assume your making the pollen patties?
No you buy patties. Search online.
During you harvest how do you assess how many supers to add? What are you looking for and where are you looking for it? Adding on top? Thanks.
