Buy the 16mm F1.4 & 30mm F1.4 Sigma lenses for less than the 18-35 art lens, and save even more not having to buy the MC-11 adapter. If you are a a6300/a6500 shooter.
The Sigma 16 mm F1.4 can be used up to 32mm via Clear Image Zoom. It can be zoomed from 16 to 32mm while shooting video. A huge plus. I'll be posting some samples on my channel in the near future.
This is the first of your reviews I have seen, and I commend you on this video's tight organization, on-point choice of observations to present, and its consistent, forward moving flow. A far more 'pro-worthy', no nonsense little production than I normally see elsewhere in the camera gear category here. Congratulations! ...Subscribed.
Thank you. Sorry for bothering, but in detail, for example when you showed your leather gloves, is that filmed with the Panasonic or Sony? Can't stop noticing that sharpness :P Since i'm replying, i'd like to ask you another question. With the Sigma 19mm 1.4, which i've been falling in love, would it be complicated to use on an a6300 instead of the a6500, since the 6300 does not have built-in stabilization? Thank you again! Anyway i just subscribed, i do really enjoy your quality content, keep it up! :)
I have tested that, just forgot to include it in the video. At the same settings the brightness of the scene is the same, I'm not able to tell the difference on even on 10 bit monitor, for some reason, the metering in camera exposes the scene differently at F1.4, I'm not sure why is that, but I have seen that with multiple cameras / lenses.
Yes, it is possible to do that with quick release plate and longer arca swiss plate that allows to move the camera further back, but 18-35mm is definitely not my most favorite lens to use on gimbal.
Great comparsion again! I'm looking to maybe buy an A6500 soon. My budget allows 1-2 lenses and main purpose will be travel (landscapes, architecture, close-ups, timelapses, animals, sports) and weddings (low-light, portraits, zoom). I was thinking the sigma 18-35mm would cover almost everything in that range but it's not really portable for travel or with a gimbal. Some people suggested a fast wide lens + 18-105 kit combo but the sigma just looks so good. I can also buy the sigma later if I get more paid jobs. Which lenses would you recommend? I'm open to all suggestions/brands.
Thank you, for travelling I would wait for some review of the new Sony 18-135 F3.5-5.6 OSS, I'm personally not a fan of 18-105 due to it's size, slow aperture and average optical qualities. Sony 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS and Sigma 16mm F1.4 or 30mm F1.4 could be a very good combination for travelling. 16-50mm kit lens is also worth a try.
Thanks so much for your suggestion. I think I will start with the sigma 16mm or 30mm (not sure which one yet) and then wait for some reviews and decide between the new sony 18-135 or 18-105! Will you make a review/comparison of the sony lens?
You're welcome, Sigma F1.4 prime is certainly a good start. I probably won't make a review of the 18-135, I don't need that kind of lens for A6500 right now.
was wondering if you could give me some advice. I currently have a 16mm f1.4 sigma for my a6300 but was looking to add another lens to my collection. I was thinking about the sigma 18-35mm + mc11 adapter but I'm sure it won't balance on my zhiyun crane and I'm also worried about the auto focus and shaky-ness. I like to create cinematic visuals and travel cinematic. would the sigma 30mm f1.4 be the best option or would you recommend anything else?
If you want to use it specifically on the gimbal, Sigma 30mm F1.4 or Sony 35mm F1.8 OSS will be better option. It is possible to use 18-35 on zhiyun crane but it is not very convenient.
You are really into style, huh? Even the gloves used in the demo were so cool! I'm glad you have a link to that watch. I have to find out more about it. I recognized the other 2 as Tag and Omega... probably out of my range. SInce I retired, I have little need for a watch anyway! Thanks for the comparo... I'm considering a switch from Panasonic GX8 to an A6500. See you in another video some time!
Maybe a little bit :) those driving gloves are actually the best to operate the camera, since the leather is very thin. I also have channel about wrist watches if you would like to find out more ruclips.net/channel/UCZmvM39ck6z4j20pisIXuFA
THANK YOU !!!! loved the 18-35, but the focus was too touchy and it's super heavy. G9 can also "zoom" via Extended Teleconverter for video, or High Resolution for stills
I have the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 and it's an amazing lens. I am looking for a good vlogging lens for the a6500 but I think I would lean toward a native Sony lens since continuous autofocus in video is very important. I may end up with the Sony 10-18 lens. Thanks for the great comparison video!
I have found that for video the combo of the MC-11 and Canon/Sigma lenses can be very noisy during AF. Even the native Sigma 16mm is pretty noisy during AF.
In my testing with a mic attached to the a6500 or A7iii you can hear the noise pretty well on the 16mm but admittedly I haven't tried it in a less than quite situation. It may be just fine then but when it's quiet you can hear it.
Nice vid, could you make one of sigma 16mm vs Samyang 16mm f2.0. So little reviews about the last one and it is a very very good one. People talk a lot about 12mm but not the 16mm
hello, do you have the same pulsating problem in the sigma 16mm f1.4 when using autofocus in video mode? since you mentioned the sigma 19mm have that problem.
I own the sigma 30mm 1.4, it feels wide and I think it is considered wide on the a6500. I am using this lens mainly for portraits because it feels very zoomed in my opinion and thats the main reason I want to get the 16mm. Will there be a major difference when I will get the 16mm in focal length? or should I invest into like a 50>mm for actual close up portrait photos and keep my 30mm as my "wide angle" lens? hope you or anyone else could awnser this.
You seem to really like Sony A6500, so I decided to pick up a Sony camera (mostly for video). Because of my budget, I could only afford the A6000, having in mind that I have to spend some money on lenses. But 4K doesn't matter to much for me because I'm waiting for a 4K 60 fps camera. I would not get the A6500 even if I had the money for that reason. Better for me to get a cheaper body and buy a 4K camera with all of the features that I want. later on when it's released and has a good price. DAMN, the AF is impressive on the A6000 in video mode. In stills, AF-C is perfect but I wish it was just as fast as Panasonic cameras in AF-S. The A6000 is a perfect fit with my Zhiyun Crane v2 because of the AF. So far, I'm really liking it and I don't find it irritating to use as some have said. The menus are fine and I got used to the controls in less than two days. The only things that I'm curious to know about is the colours. What settings do you use if you don't colour grade? I want the best picture out of the camera and it is very interesting what settings you use other than S-LOG. Do you think 550 USD was a good price for the A6000 with the kit-lens? I think so but I want to know what your thoughts are on the A6000.
Yes, 550 USD is good price with kit len, A6000 is a great camera for that price, I actually colorgrade everything, so I don't really know what are good out of camera settings, but I quite liked picture profile off on A6500.
issue with A6000 you have no control over the audio, levels change automatically . I have 2 A6000, the A6500 is quite pricey. If price goes under 1000 USD I may consider it. Build quality of A6300 / A6500 is better. Common issue with A6000 is the rear button become unresponsive and circuit board has to be replaced. Issue does not happen with the more recent models. This according to a Sony authorized repair center in NYC. I had to take in one of my A6000s twice for the issue.
The Hybrid Shooter I only have PANASONIC G81 and I recently bought the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for MFT. Would you buy that lens for your G8/80/81/85 or would you buy the APC-Version?
it is a completely different lens on MFT because of the crop factor, sharpness will still be excellent, but MFT sensor can't utilize all of the glass in the lens that I would still have to carry around, so I would probably prefer Leica 15mm F1.7
The sigma 18-35 is technically a good lens but a big hype in terms of practical use. It is good for video use but has very limited use for stills. The range is too short for a walk around zoom. How often would you need to shoot wider than 35mm at 1.8? Probably only in situation were you need more light. How many of those situations can you apply flash/tripod which will result in a better picture? Now consider the extra cost, weight, possible focus issues vs a native 35mm prime.
You are partially right, I don't use it that much outside of making product reviews, it is not for everyone, there are some limitations, although I use it at wide angles at F1.8 very often and I have never had any AF issues with MC-11. For many people it is exactly what they need.
18-35 is my 2nd most used lens after sony 10-18. I tend to use the sigma for professional paid applications. Its zoom and large aperture makes it ideal for many types of shooting including video but the downside is the less ideal focusing , af noise in video and weight. The IQ it delivers can really rival full frame quality ( i have 5dm4) with the right tweaking in ps and lr. 10-18 is my go-to for vlogging, personal trips, group shots, etc. very easy to carry and above average IQ tho not as great as art lenses
I have the Sigma 18-35 on a Nikon d500. This focal range is limiting if you like a super zoom . Then you’ll get that crappy performance. I love this lens and works phenomenally for me. 27-50 ff equivalent wow what a great usable range. How many people have made a living with just one of these focal ranges. 27-28mm fov is one of my favorites. 35 and 50 mm are classics people live and die by. How can one complain about having 28-35 and 50 in one lens and the best of image quality of any prime in theses
Most of the time I shoot wider than 35mm (50mm equivalent) as I shoot indoor. The fact that you are not using this focal length range does not mean everyone else are also not using and it certainly is not just a hype.
Buy the 16mm F1.4 & 30mm F1.4 Sigma lenses for less than the 18-35 art lens, and save even more not having to buy the MC-11 adapter. If you are a a6300/a6500 shooter.
what will the MC-11 adapter do? i have the 6000
umm 18-35 is a DSLR lens for Canon and Nikon ... u need to "adapt it " to a mirrorless like the a6000
They make the 18-35 Art with a native Sony mount now though...
That one is for A-mount, A6000 needs E-mount.
The Hybrid Shooter ooo good call. I woulda definitely been upset when that didn’t fit 😂
The Sigma 16 mm F1.4 can be used up to 32mm via Clear Image Zoom. It can be zoomed from 16 to 32mm while shooting video. A huge plus. I'll be posting some samples on my channel in the near future.
Hi! how you do that?
this is true for every lens but the perspective doesnt change-wide lenses will not loose the distortion with clear image zoom
This is the first of your reviews I have seen, and I commend you on this video's tight organization, on-point choice of observations to present, and its consistent, forward moving flow. Thank you, I appreciate your subscription, I missed similar format of reviews myself, which is why chose to do reviews this way.
Dont forget to mention the sigma 18 to 35 with the mc 11 adaptor with autofocus will drain your battery super fast
Good video. May i ask you what camera and which lens are you using for the entire review? The level of detail is incredible!
Thank you, I have shot this video with Sony A6500, Sigma 18-35mm F1.8, Panasonic G80 and Panasonic 12-60mm kit lens.
Thank you. Sorry for bothering, but in detail, for example when you showed your leather gloves, is that filmed with the Panasonic or Sony? Can't stop noticing that sharpness :P
Since i'm replying, i'd like to ask you another question. With the Sigma 19mm 1.4, which i've been falling in love, would it be complicated to use on an a6300 instead of the a6500, since the 6300 does not have built-in stabilization? Thank you again!
Anyway i just subscribed, i do really enjoy your quality content, keep it up! :)
That was shot with 18-35mm and A6500, the stabilization helps a lot with handheld shots, but it is still ok on A6300. I appreciate your subscription.
Thank u for this video. Tho I was waiting for side by side low light/ night scene comparison between 16/1.4 and 18-35/1.8. Great review overall :)
Thank you, I will make more videos with 16mm F1.4 so I will take a look at that in the future.
The Hybrid Shooter i really think that 18-35 has better light transmission and provides brighter and sharper image overall. Will wait for it! Ty
Hi Will, thanks for the review. Were you ever able to get the Sigma 18-35 to balance correctly on the zhiyune crane? If so, what did you do?
Yes, it is possible to do that with quick release plate and longer arca swiss plate that allows to move the camera further back, but 18-35mm is definitely not my most favorite lens to use on gimbal.
Hm, no Image quality demonstration of the Sigma 19mm F2.8? I guess if you're stop down to F5.6 there is no difference to the others?
which one would be better?
sigma 16&30 f1.4 or sigma 18-35 f1.8?
This video might help you decide ruclips.net/video/fweINjNkyt4/видео.html

Omg this is the comparison i want! Thanks my friend!
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Do you use any ND variable filter for your Sigma 16mm 1.4? Any recommendation?
What's happening to the buildings making them sway at 7:15 with the 18-35? Is that an IBIS issue?
I can't decide between the sigma 18 35 with viltrox for my gh5, or instead get a sigma 16mm with a 25mm pani
Love your leather gloves, where u get them? Nice comparison btw, Going to keep my eye on 18-35 on my Nikon now
+Oskar Tuulik Thank you, those are made company Junek gloves in Czech republic.
The Hybrid Shooter Could you put link tere to their website? Couldnt find any, but id love to buy a pair to my self
this is their site, although I don't know whether they have online-shop or world-wide shipping www.junek-gloves.cz/
great, patient review with nice aesthetic and technical balances in the reporting--super
Hi, have you talked and compared using a sony native 85mm 1.8 vs a sigma 85mm 1.8 on a a6500? Im thinking about doing head shots photography
Hi, unfortunately I haven't used either of those, but Sony FE 85mm F1.8 is very highly regarded, it should be a good choice.
was wondering if you could give me some advice. I currently have a 16mm f1.4 sigma for my a6300 but was looking to add another lens to my collection. THANK YOU !!!! loved the 18-35, but the focus was too touchy and it's super heavy. G9 can also "zoom" via Extended Teleconverter for video, or High Resolution for stills
You're welcome!
Is the lack of image stabilization in the 18-35 and also the 50-100 Sigma lenses a big drawback for an a6300 shooter?
If you intend to shoot handheld a lot, than it probably is.
Your reviews are good, can you review sigma 14mm art lens on A6500 .. ?
Thank you, I unfortunately don't have that lens so I can't do that.
Is the sharpness of 19 mm 2.8 approaching 16 mm 1.4 and 18-35 1.8 or is it far behind?
It is behind. But it is still sharp lens overall.
You're welcome. I don't think that the AF-C with this lens is any worse than with Sony lenses if you use right settings.
I have found that for video the combo of the MC-11 and Canon/Sigma lenses can be very noisy during AF. Even the native Sigma 16mm is pretty noisy during AF.
It is is loud with 18-35, but with 16mm I have no problems with noise at all.
In my testing with a mic attached to the a6500 or A7iii you can hear the noise pretty well on the 16mm but admittedly I haven't tried it in a less than quite situation. It may be just fine then but when it's quiet you can hear it.
In my testing you can't hear anything at all while using Rode VideoMic Pro in any situation.
will the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 work with a6300? or do I need adopter?
thanks
You need an adapter.
Good review comparison. I will be getting the 16mm f1.4 in January 2018 for my A6500.
Thank you, you won't be disappointed by this lens.
Very useful! Hybrid Shooter, I love your videos! They help me putting my new Sony gear together :) Thank you!
You're welcome, this can also be useful if you are getting lenses for Sony camera bit.ly/a6500lenses
Nice vid, could you make one of sigma 16mm vs Samyang 16mm f2.0. So little reviews about the last one and it is a very very good one. People talk a lot about 12mm but not the 16mm
Thank you, unfortunately I don't have that lens, so I cannot make that comparison, sorry about that.
hello, do you have the same pulsating problem in the sigma 16mm f1.4 when using autofocus in video mode?
since you mentioned the sigma 19mm have that problem.
No, Sigma 19mm F2.8 is the only one with that problem.
Make a video on some external monitor.
Will do that in the future.
Pekne fotky, diky za video
I can't decide between 18 35 with gh5 or 16mm as 18 35 is wider but idk if I can vlog with it
Neither is suitable for vlogging on GH5 due to the crop factor.
@@TheHybridShooter I prefer tighter focal length where my face is like 60 percent. But with gorilla pod fully extended is that ok?
No, neither is suitable for that.
Whats the equivalents of the sigma 18 35 on full frame
27-52.5mm F2.7
Can anybody tell me some good lenses for Canon 77D. I want one for videos with quiet autofocus and low light. Anything that's f2.8 or lower are good
I own the sigma 30mm 1.4, it feels wide and I think it is considered wide on the a6500.
Yes, there is major difference in 16 and 30mm. For portraits, 50mm is more suitable.
How much does it cost for that mount which is used in sony a6500 with 18 to 35mm sigma lens ?? And what is the name of that mount adapter ??
Where is the in-body lens correction on the Sony a6500?
First tab in the menu - page 2/14 - Lens Comp.
Thank you!
Great reviews, thanks for your help.
You're welcome, thank you fro watching!
the 19mm don't miss the focus sometimes?
Not in the stills, but it has that pulsating issue in video.
The Hybrid Shooter
I have one that in 10 photos 1 stays out of focus, but I bought in second hand, my camera is a3000.
the quality @1:26 is unreal
Ordered mine today. Great video! :D
Thank you, I hope that you will like it.
I have a 19mm Sigma and it seems to hunt quite a bit in lower light levels...
Yes, it does that.
Sigma 18-35 1.8 or Sigma 35mm 1.4?
Depend pure on your preferences, how you intend to use it and what camera do you have.
Camera i use is 700d/t5i planning to record some video clips for short film etc
For that 18-35 will be better.
The Hybrid Shooter THANKS!!😁
The 18-35 will not disappoint at all. I have it on the Nikon d500. It rarely ever comes off . I use it for stills and videos.
Kukám nato a zrazu Martinsky dóm, hahaaa. Dobré porovnanie.
Ďakujem, ľudí zvykne prekvapiť keď vidia v mojich videách Bratislavu.
Do you think 550 USD was a good price for the A6000 with the kit-lens? I think so but I want to know what your thoughts are on the A6000.
Yes, 550 USD is good price with kit len, A6000 is a great camera for that price, I actually colorgrade everything, so I don't really know what are good out of camera settings, but I quite liked picture profile off on A6500.
There is a 4k 60fps camera on the market today: GH5.
It is mico 4/3 and costs too much. It also doesen't have good AF. Waiting til Sony releases one, hopefully at a good pricepoint.
issue with A6000 you have no control over the audio, levels change automatically .
U want 4k 60fps but do you have a computer fast enough to handle that footage hehe
Nice gloves! Great video!
Thank you!
Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 or sigma 16mm f1.4 for a6300
That is kind of what this video is about.
Several of this lenses are also available for MFT👌
All of these lenses are available for E-mount you just need different adapter / speedbooster for 18-35
The Hybrid Shooter I only have PANASONIC G81 and I recently bought the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for MFT. Would you buy that lens for your G8/80/81/85 or would you buy the APC-Version?
it is a completely different lens on MFT because of the crop factor, sharpness will still be excellent, but MFT sensor can't utilize all of the glass in the lens that I would still have to carry around, so I would probably prefer Leica 15mm F1.7
could you share your LUT?
I don't use LUTs I edit everything myself.
Exactly the one I was looking for. I have the 19mm and 30mm 1,4. I was looking for a help for a new one. Thanks!
You're welcome!
+Jérémie Schuler You're welcome, thank you for watching.
