I wish this lens was more compact and Sony E-Mount native... It just looks way to big on the tiny A6000-Series bodys, esspecially with the Sigma-Adapter... I will probably stick to my plans for getting the holy Sigma-Trinity, so 16, 30 and 56mm. More stuff to carry around but easier to handle when mounted on the camera.
How is continuous auto focus tracking on the a6500 compared to Canon's M50? Did you get to try the a6400? I would also be interested on this lens's performance on that body, if you have.
What do you think is the better option: Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 or Sigma 19mm 2.8 + Sigma 30mm 1.4? The 2 prime lenses are quite a lot cheaper, also considering that I would need a Smallrig cage for gimbal work with the Sigma zoom lens. Do you think it's worth spending that much more for the advantage of not having to change lenses and a wider aperture than the 19mm 2.8?
That really comes down to your preference and shooting style, 18-35 is like having attached primes lenses from 18 to 35mm at the same time, the sharpness is outstanding and AF is also very good with MC-11 adapter.
All lenses have compromises. The most serious compromises are the weight and price. Both these are the most influential factors of the quality. The Art series of Sigma lenses has very little compromises in weight and price. The Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 and its brother 50-100mm f/1.8 are both some of the heaviest and more expensive zoom lenses for APS-C dSLR cameras. Nearly all zoom lens for APS-C cameras by Nikon and Canon are much less expensive and heavy. (The compatible with aps-c cameras, full frame lenses are another story). The Sigma with 810 grammars is very heavy. It is very expensive at around 1000$. It a neither wide zoom nor telephoto zoom lens and is very big as a 2X normal zoom lens. Its the first commercial zoom lenses with constant f/1.8. That's impressive and its sharpness at f/1.8 makes the lens even more impressive. The expensive manual prime lenses have exceptional quality. However the zoom autofocus lenses are very convenient and help to the photographers creativity even if the zoom is nearly 2X as with the case of Sigma 18-35mm. My opinion is that with the 18-35mm f/1.8 a photographer can avoid having a fast 18mm and a 35mm prime lens. That is a huge achievement by Sigma. I hope to see a similar full frame lens by Sigma.
I got mine for 569€ (650$) with factory warranty, at that price I can´t call it expensive. Other than it is basically what I said in the video, it is not only replacement for fast 18 and 35mm but also everything in between. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hi @The Hybride Shooter , Thanks for this great review ! I'm intersted in this lens with Viltrox EF-M2 speedbooster for the panasonic G9. As the G9 has a better handling than A6500, what are your though for this combo ? As your lens is Canon mount would you consider buying a speedbooster to use it more often this lens with the G9 ? Also did you have any focus issue with this lens , I saw many review talking about it. Thanks Best regards
I prefer using this lens on A6500, because the autofocus works really well and it basically has native functionality. I prefer using G9 with Panasonic lenses because of the DFD technology and in-camera corrections, at the moment I don't intend to buy speedbooster for my G9. I haven't had any issues with the autofocus.
Sony version is for A-mount, you would need different adapter to use A-mount lens on E-mount camera, but I don't recommend it, Canon version with MC-11 works best.

Hi! I just recently research and didn't understand much about this lens Why did you use a Sigma Canon Lens + Sigma MC-11 Converter instead of a Sigma (directly sony lens mount)? Perhaps someone can tell me.. Thanks
This lense can be selected for Sony A Mount. His camera is a mirrorless Sony however and it therefore has a Sony E Mount. Thats why he uses a Canon to E Mount adapter....
Hi, The Hybrid Shooter! I'd like to buy the sigma 18-35 for my a6400 with the viltrox M2 speed booster, but you specify that there are vigneting. May you give me more precisions?
great lens for the panasonic GH cameras, it doesn't go wide enough nor work with a speed booster to give you the lower light with the sony cameras. So i would save hundreds of dollars and have better autofocus getting the sony 35mm 1.8 and pairing that with a zoom.
+PeglegMedia It doesn't need speedbooster on Sony cameras, because it is made for APS-C sensor, low light performance is even better on Sony cameras than on GH cameras with speedbooster, angle is about the same.
I meant the point of everyone getting it on the gh4 was that the speed booster turned the 1.8 into a 1.4 so you got the shallow depth of field and even better low light than a 1.8. On sony it stays a 1.8 so might as well get a wide sony lens and the 35mm 1.8. Still an amazing lens but id only get it if it went to 16mm and had good video auto focus.
+PeglegMedia It doesn't work like that, on GH4 with speedbooster you may have F1.4 but on smaller M43 sensor. On Sony you have F1.8 but with larger APS-C sensor, so the deph of field is still shalower. Autofocus is great with this lens on Sony cameras. It works better on Sony cameras overall.
right that sony is still shallower, actually i think they come out about the same. This is the reason i switched to sony from panasonic. But my point is that panasonic users have more reasons to buy this lens because it helps them get a decent shallow depth of field when sony users don't need to drop a grand on this lens and an adapter to get the shallow depth of field. And from what I've seen the video auto focus is not good, mainly just for photos. But i haven't tested it so its still one of those lenses I want but probably won't ever get. Although the sony 50-100 1.8 might be a great interview lens for both my panasonic and sony cameras, any experience with that lens?
+PeglegMedia I actually think that with Sigma MC-11 this is one of the best focusing lenses for Sony A6500/A6300. I haven't tested 50-100 so far, but I will do so in near future.
Depends on what do you want to shoot in interior, if the focal length is suitable for you, than I would recommend it, it is great in low light, so that won't be a problem.
@@TheHybridShooter As far as I know it is almost impossible to remove Chromatic Aberration from video files especially if we are talking about longitudinal chromatic aberration that is very common in wide angle lenses. In fact video files with chromatic aberration are considered very amateur if not useless. That is finally the point that SONY forces you to buy native lenses that are being corrected in camera and give you clean output.
@@DimAspiotis As far as I know, CA in video is not fixed in camera with 1st party lenses either. Wide-angle has nothing to do with CA. Modern lenses generally exhibit much less CA. I got this lens and also got the MC-11 adapter. The adapter fits my camera body Sony ZV-E10 but the lens does not fit the adapter. I use a Sony E mount and the MC-11 adapter says Canon EF-E. Is there another adapter that works???

The Hybrid Shooter - there is a Sony A mount version - I have used for two years now.. First with a SLT camera and now with La-Ea3 adapter and a6500.. works great..!
Advice for fans: don'buy this combination, is simply awfull. Video is impossible due to insane AF focus and photography is impossible due to huge AF latency and hunting. Absolutely crap combination.

The Hybrid Shooter hello, what adapter are you using
why is the lens soooo loooong lol
The lens is actually not that long, but the adapted adds some length.
Advice for fans: don'buy this combination, is simply awfull. Video is impossible due to insane AF focus and photography is impossible due to huge AF latency and hunting. Absolutely crap combination.
Hundreds or even thousands photographer and filmmakers disagree with you (including myself).
Hey, does touch screen af works in video mode for this setup?
Yes, it does, you can use it to secelet focus point.
