I already treat my OnePlus open with kid gloves. I'm being even more careful now, because this phone is getting traded in the nanosecond pre-orders for the sequel go live.

If the rumors of specs etc are close to reality, I will trade my original pixel fold for the OnePlus Open 2.

Agree with some of the comments, if it does not happen early id likely end up going for foldable 7 or pixel later on, this is their chance to have a new wave of excited community wanting good upgrades

Second half of 2025 that's quite a wait considering how long the OnePlus open has been out now. But I can imagine it's going to be a seriously good device

I agree. OnePlus will launch in the first quarter. Anywhere between the end of January and early February.

Preorders for the OnePlus 13 happen January 7. I don't know that they will do a completely separate launch for the Open 2 right after - why would they have not combined into a larger PR push?

Well if the open 2 is going to be the first phone to come with SD 8 elite then it will be the end of January for getting it in our hands, maybe the 20th?

Man I hope so for Q1. I've held off waiting for my phone upgrade but if this is true and ends up being late 25. They may loose me and probably a lot of others.

Honestly, I kinda find myself thinking: "Maybe, I'll just pickup 3rd party insurance and use the open, until I can't, anymore?" If I'm being honest with myself, there isn't anything lacking with the first model (for me personally) that has me wanting for a newer model. I'm sure when I see the new model I'll want the shiny, but outside of trade-in value...I could see myself just using this first version for quite awhile. I don't care about wireless charging and the battery life/charging speed have been so good that I don't find myself really desiring a thinner model with better battery life. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 still feels brand new. Going forward the only things I see improving are fps benchmarks in games and efficiency.
Edit: I guess what would convince me is one plus's trade-in value offered for the first model. I really want to see them go hard, like Samsung. IF the trade-in value is good, then I'll upgrade. If they screw 1st gen (in the US) buyers, then I'll just use this as long as I can and look at the market when I feel an upgrade is warranted.

The question is if the global launch will be the same as the launch in China - but the delay by half a year is unlikely anyway...

My great question will be whether it's worth trading in the OnePlus Open for the newer version... It's been a little over a year ... Will it be that much better? Will losing the 64mp telephoto for a 50mp make that much of a difference? Do I need wireless charging? Will it be worth the upgrade to get the 8 elite? Will it have the same support for the Oppo pen? Too many questions.

It seems sensible to delay launching the OPPO and OnePlus foldables simultaneously, as they would then compete directly with each other. However, if they sell them regionally, it could be a different story. Considering Samsung’s pessimistic forecasts for its folding phones, predicting a 20% decline in sales compared to the Galaxy Fold 5 with their anticipated Fold 7, the folding phone market appears challenging. I suspect that no original equipment manufacturer (OEM) has yet achieved profitability, and further market contraction could lead to some companies exiting the folding segment.
A delay in launching the foldables in the hope that demand increases and the global economy improves is a prudent business strategy. Alternatively, like Samsung, the only way they can clear their stock is to sell it at significantly reduced prices, which could be detrimental to shareholders.

oppo and oneplus folding phones are the same phone, right down to the color choices and packaging. The only reason for late global launch is the optimization for the global market. The China phones have different software from global ones

Caved and bought a fold6. Worse case scenario, I give it to the wife and get the op2 if reviews are glowing. Gives me a chance to try out foldables. Coming from and iPhone 9. 💀

I'll be very interested in the trade in values after the OPO 2 release. I have a mint condition Pixel Pro fold, my OG Pixel Fold, and an iPhone 14 pro that could be saying bye if this phone proves to be a winner.
