No you don't have to use compression or eq on a sound at all. But I always place the Fabfilter eq first in my chain even if I never touch it because it gives me a tone that I like. Sometimes just placing a compressor or something on a track can make the difference. As you use your plug-ins listen closely to what they are doing to be able to choose the right plug-ins to create the sound that you are looking for.

What s your final limiter?
My first limiter is the Ozone 10 Maximizer and my final limiter is the BX Limiter True Peak by BRAINWORX.
