The “tension” you noticed was part of how she interprets it. And i think its because of the consonant NG that’s making it look like she is straining but i tell you, she is the most relax singer/belter in the country, the Asia’s Songbird. The Queen! 😊

The tightness in her vocal that you noticed is actually her singing style. You can dig into her old videos during her prime years and you'll understand why philippine singers finds it hard to immitate her whole singing style. Also if you noticed that singers like morisette, katrina and others has same delivery to regine its because most young belters in philippines are influenced by regine. Regine sets the standard of singing in the Philippines.

Yes it is an old remake of hers. Her choices of how to deliver her tones are deliberate. She's an idol of most Filipino belters today, including Morisette.

There's no tension or struggling there. She knows when to open her mouth when singing. She was just pronouncing the Tagalog words correctly which required her not to open her mouth so much. She actually sang her song perfectly.

Thank you for this! Yeah, she's the Queen of the Philippine Music Industry. This song is a song from one of her albums that was released on 2004, sometimes she forgets the lyrics so she needs that sometimes. The jaw tension in the beginning is not really her having tension, but her way of interpretation, aside from the fact that Filipino language is very forward. She is the most relaxed singer/belter in the Philippines. She is the ultimate idol and inspiration of almost all singers of today, including Morissette, Katrina and so many other more. Try to react next to her performance of What Kind of Fool am I. It is a signature song of hers. That performance is the one wherein she was sitting down on the floor, actually kinda kneeling then in a red gown. That was in her 20th anniversary concert on 2006. That is definitely a must watch! Filipino composers have been composing songs like this even before these 2 young ladies were born. We were colonized and influenced by the Spanish and then the Americans (both the whites and blacks). Korean songs were very much different in earlier years. We have our own style but more western in melody, style of singing etc.

Shes just not minding too much of things in this performance. Regine? No! She set the standard in the 80's that's why we have today the likes of Morisette, katrina V,, Gigi and so on! It was because of her! She is the QUEEN the OG Diva. She is also known as Asia's Songbird! Yes it is her original song which has a very different arrangement than the original one which was released 2004 and this Wish Bus was released 2017. So just So 13 years in between...This rendition is more controlled while original version is flowing like water.

I can agree with the person in the middle. The struggle that he noticed might be the manifestation of her age. I grew up listening to her songs. But it is noticeable in her performances nowadays that her vocal accuracy and stamina are declining, which is natural, and nothing to be embarrassed about. I'm just saying, she's not as vocally accurate as she was. She's already past her prime. People in this comment section who keep denying this natural occurrence, by defending her vocal capacity in this WISH performance, are probably just overzealous motivated by their strong love for our Songbird, or trying to be know-it-alls by giving simplified musical instructions. She's already a queen here in the Philippines. But just like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, etc. Even the brightest stars lose their shine, figuratively and vocally. My family and I have nothing but respect and admiration for her. We still love her originals. I wish more artists would cover her originals.

She is a seasoned singer and even had a duet with Jacky Cheung. The song is not an original song of hers but is a 1980s song by an equally seasoned singer Nonoy Zuñiga. The tension is just how some singers use their jaw to stylize Tagalog songs because we are melodic singers just like how some Koreans sing ballad songs.

When she sang this while sitting, she was suffering from a mild migraine, a cold, and acid reflux. Yes, she was struggling to sing, but her struggle was still better than the rest of the singers her age. In Wish Bus, she could have said no and simply recorded this another day, but she didn't because she is a professional who has been in the game for almost 40 years. She began entering amateur singing contests at the age of six and it wasn't until she was fourteen that she won a national singing contest, landing her a record deal with a major studio. However, it wasn't until 1989 that she won the Asia Pacific Singing Contest in Hong Kong, capturing the title.

That’s just her style ever since. Feigning some struggle in the beginning to create tension and suspense, and then blows up at the end like it’s nothing. Not sure how that affected her voice in the long run but she did have a very long and successful career with that style.

Yea that’s not tension. That’s a stylistic affectation. She uses a lot of nasal tone similar to celine and barbra. It’s not always good to be on top of every note like a classic singer or you will lose the meaning of the song. Her longevity ( since 1986) speaks to her flawless technique. If you did more research you would know that Regine is the singer that Morissette emulated. If you compared Regine at the same age as Morissette , Regine is miles ahead both vocally and commercial success.
You should check Regine and Brian Mcknight sing Whenever you Call. Its an old video. This woman set the standard and definitely the one who championed belting in Asia since the 80’s at her teens.

i have noticed that 'tension' thing you were referring to in all of her videos and i think she's singing tight on purpose to start the song very light so she can easily go bigger in the end, kinda like doing a 1 to 10 level of singing in just one song. so no, she's not struggling at all.

As much as I wanted to defend Regine, i have to agree that she is struggling at the first parts of the song but that is because this is the first time that she is going to be singing live after a long hiatus, her voice is not on the greatest condition unlike now that she was able to perform and sing her heart out every day. Age and giving birth really affects her voice but that has long overcome at this point
