- Comedy gold from one of the most photogenic comedians ever.
I'm not sure if this character was the inspiration for Vyvyan or if this is just Vyvyan doing a commercial during- or post-Young Ones.
If I remember correctly, this came from half-inch PAL tape over to VHS, then here onto RUclips. Hope you enjoy. Приколы
Now this what bank adverts should be like.
Pretty sure this is meant to be Vyvyan because this ad was between series and is actually referenced in the 2nd series of The Young Ones by the postmas in 'Nasty'. After Vyvyan yells at him to shut up, the postman says "Little squirt! He does 1 advert and he thinks he's Dustin Hoffman." :)
nice! i never caught that bit!
Lenny Henry was the postman!
Sarahw1971
He was the postman in the last episode ('Summer Holiday'). This was the "Master Thespian" type postman in 'Nasty' and he was played by Barry Stanton.
Pretty certain I never saw this advert which would probably have been broadcast between 1982 and 1983. Incidentally, the male punk at the end was Bruce Payne of 1993s passenger 57.
Lol, I was just watching that episode, so I came looking for the commercial he was referencing. 😆
Been with Natwest since 1983, but never seen this ad before. Uncanny.
help I can't stop pressing 1 to hear him say "SMART!" over and over
Yeah this was shown regularly at cinemas. Always used to get a laugh.
I remember seeing this advert in the Cinema during the early 80's, brings back nice memories. Thanks for uploading.
I remember that too
It was conceived and shot between series 1 and series 2 of The Young Ones. Hence the joke in Nasty:
"Little squirt. He does one advert and he thinks he's Dustin Hoffman!"
my favourite comidan ever
The guy who sings the theme
song was my best friend.
Are you the ghost of Rik Mayall?
Forget the bank account, I want the teller!
holy shit... vyvyan in bell bottoms...oh my
my 11th grade english teacher had a tape of this. the tape was just this, nothing else. i saw it once and hadn't seen it in about 10 years. thanks for posting this!
love how gets all mad and throws himself against the wall LMAO
Judging by the 'U' logo..about 1981/1983. Though 'The Young Ones' didn't appear on screens until late 1982.
Too long to be a television advert, this is a cinema advert (certificate at the beginning can tell you that).
I remember this one from YEARS ago, and always lamented the fact that I saw it more on the big screen than on TV (and even then, rarely) - so thanks for this upload!!
:-D
I have never seen that in my LIFE!
Was it ever even ON telly?
Beerrilliant!
As I recall it was only in cinemas, circa 1984/5.
"Little squirt! He does one advert and he thinks he's Dustin Hoffman"
How I felt visiting a Natwest about opening my first account today!
Is that Patrick Allen?
Nope, can't unhear "Protect and Survive".
What you on about?
You don't even need a reference today.
Looks like A Banker (Oooh), A Banker (Oooh), A bank Account kinda guy!
BRILLIANT.
He also has the four stars on his head :)
hahaha go vyvyan!!!
My favorite line: "No that's a grapefruit. Now will you please pick me up before this woman farts again!"
SMART !!!!!!!!!! LOL

Bloody marvellous. Thanks!!
I wish there would be a remake for this.
