The guy you spoke to re crossing the bay of biscay is right, keep well offshore and head for northern Spain. But you will miss some good parts of France like Normandy or Brittany. An alternative plan would be to use the English Coast from Dover to Brighton, then cross to Cherbourg and then go via the Channel Islands to N Brittany. Then from Brest head to northern Spain. One thing to avoid is the French Coast from Calais to Cherbourg as the tides are difficult to plan for and the harbours small. Hope this helps.
Hi!! We didn´t really avoid that coast too much!! Many good places between calais and cherbourg! The tides are mean as you said!! We crossed Biscay completely out of season - November - and survived!! All good really! It´s a game of patience and route studing! We did miss Brittany though... gutted for that part! Would love to go there in another summer!! Have you sailed there a lot?

Hi, guys I'm from The Channel Islands. Visit Jersey, where I'm from. But live in Sweden now. It is the biggest of five islands Very beautiful lots to see and do. Known for great Restaurants. Bars, good nightlife. Keep well offshore the east coast, coming from France. It is extremely rocky Stay out 2 miles. English speaking .population 110,000. Was occupied by the Germans during WW2 lots of intriguing history. Tidal flow height in and out from the Island is 40 feet every day. Weather in the English channel, especially during the winter is brutal. Summertime is the only time to be in the English Channel.
