    Began my recovery from alcohol and drug abuse 2.5 years ago.. i was homeless, lost, and hurting from a lifetime of disconnection, avoidance, and self hatred.
    I have had 3 slips in that time, and the path hasn't all been smooth and sunny. But i am glad to say that today I am sober, safe, loved, housed, working, and trying my best each day to maintain and show kindness to myself and others.
    Much love to all my fellow humans out there trying to rise up, trying to elevate and manifest something more positive and authentic in life, even when we get knocked back and shit is hard sometimes.

    • @AverageAmerican

      Thank you, for being so understanding! I can describe what the crave of alcohol is like. Remember what it was like to have P.E. before lunch, and they make you run track for two miles?
      Okay, it's that desperate thirst you get when your throat feels like it will seize up and you can barely swallow, and it moves no moisture. On top of that, you have to wait in line for the water fountain. It's near torture to listen to your teammates slurp it up while you wait your turn. It's very much like that. Like your life force depends upon it!
      Your paradigm is such that escape has become a primary way to cope with the pain, the guilt, the shame, or whatever your inner turmoil stems from. And you might come from any walk of life and I don't know of an immune profession. You can be rich, poor, young, old. Anybody (almost) could find them on this dead-end path.
      I pray those that do will find their way, safely. My Mother-in-law used to always say, _"But there for the grace of GOD go I."_

      @staypositive5718 Месяц назад

      It starts off all fine you enjoy it have a lot of fun and it makes you feel confident takes all your worries and stress away, makes you feel as if nothing is a problem. And it’s those feelings that become addicting, having the ability to being able to cope, but unfortunately this doesn’t last too long and it’s just an illusion that soon disappears, and before you know it you are drinking to just not be miserable,feeling down and have constant anxiety, you need to drink it just to feel normal again. And the worst thing is you can see it happening before your eyes but by this point it has such a strong hold and just the thought of walking away from your crutch is terrifying, as you think you can’t go on without it. For me I haven’t had much physical withdrawal symptoms as I usually go a few days before the thoughts and temptation creep back in as I’m more of a binge drinker, but the best way to explain it is it’s almost like the symbiote from spiderman it makes you feel amazing and free at firsts the. After time it slowly destroys who you are and it clouds your mind and convinces you that you have control and “a few drinks will be fine” you find yourself convincing yourself everything is fine and have another drink.. “you earned it” and it is very hard battle to overcome and every day becomes a battle, I binge drinked for years. Most I’ve been able to stop is just over a month, the cravings never really go away no matter how long it’s been. They become less predominant and you become stronger. But they are always there lingering waiting for you to slip, it’s difficult path my friend very difficult. Think yourself lucky you never started and for your own sanity keep well away. Hope this helped you get an idea of what the mental side of it is. I wish you all the best. Enjoy life and have a good day!

    When I quit drinking, I did it just to know that I could. Just to know that I was in control, not the alcohol. I didn't experience any physical withdrawal symptoms and I didn't have unbearable cravings for it but I did realize it had changed me in another way. I just couldn't seem to enjoy parties, BBQs, hanging out with friends, any social events really. They just weren't fun anymore. I had to learn how to enjoy myself without relying on the booze and it took almost three years before i was "back to normal". Another aspect I came to understand was the time I had wasted. When others were drinking and I was with them I found it irritating. They'd laugh about nothing, repeat themselves over and over and the conversation in general was shallow, superficial and pointless. How many days, months had I wasted repeating the same stupid story to people who'd heard it 50 times, laughing at nothing and not remembering much of it anyway?

    A reference attached to alcohol as "spirits" was often associated with the possibility of "spirits" entering and affecting decision making capacity....the last time a survey of long term prisoners in the american prison system was conducted...about 80% of prisoners did not remember what crime they committed as a result of alcohol and or drug use....but alcohol for years has been a form of socializing which is a very good exercise for the frontal lobe

    I stopped drinking alcoholic beverages over 5 years ago. The clarity this choice has yielded has been so worth it. I receive spiritual insights now on matters large and small consistently and daily. I can see the truth of situations easily and can see into the motivations of others. This video is awesome! Alcohol scrambles the mind, the personality, which junks up all attractions and interpretations and responses. When I stopped - what had been occasional use with meals - gradually my attractions into my life transformed and continue to transform positively. Don’t think that just because you drink occasionally that you won’t give it up. Give it up, it is so worth it to do so!!

    Im so grateful that I stopped alcohol consumption on 08/18/2013.
    The first few weeks were difficult.
    I still have day and nightmares of acting foolish.
    I used to think I was at my best while intoxicated.

      Congratulations AssHat,
      Great post ;D but wrong comment section -
      You want “Stupids Anonymous” - just down the hall. Keep going?
      …keep going.
      ____________
      This is not Stupids Anonymous
      You are in the wrong place -
      Just because -
      You want to not go by your own handle when you say really dumb heartless shit like you own the place? Punk 😆👍
      People hate in others;
      What they hate
      About themselves.
      Your post confirms to the world,
      That you’re just jealous because you hold such disdain for people you’ve never even met, for basically no reason other than: to project your own miserable unresolved issues
      You’re an unhappy godless person. I wish you all the best. I envy you naught, and pity you like I would a petulant childz
      Good luck with that :D
      Have a great day 😂❤🎉

    I have been addict to alcohol for over 10 years now. I quit drinking for 2.5 years, then I cameback to a battle in between, where I have been learning that regarless of alcohol being one of the wrost addictions, there are other patterns of which our soul has to liberate and we have to learn to get a higher understanding not only of ourselves, but life itself and humanity. We have to break free from judgment, criticism, rejection of ourselves, punishment... There is no right or wrong, we are giving the meaning to everything. But I am still on the constant battle to drink less, nevertheless, when I am not strong enough I just lift myself up with love and try to start again

    I was drunk once, my 21st birthday. Didn't like it, just didn't have any desires for it again. 58 now and still do not regret my choice to not allow alcohol to be involved in my life.

    Moderate consuming is an energiser for the body and mind ! It will not hurt our Soul and Spiritual thoughts ! It is far better than ,critisism , sense of guilt , fear , anxiety , thoughts of deceiving others ! We can develop ourself , a well informed inner peace by pure thought patterns to builtup a precious pure conscience ! This special sense of mind , is needed to see beyond the material world ! " God made man simple but they get lost in their many thoughts " 😮

    I stopped drinking alcohol when I was diagnosed with Type 2 Bipolar Disorder almost seven years ago. Alcohol was a constant presence in my social life and helped, I thought, with both my physical and mental well-being in that it numbed my pain. The truth was I didn't need alcohol to 'numb' my senses but had in a small way distorted my mind into believing drinking alcohol could help me cope with my deep psychological issues. Being a psychiatric patient over these past seven years as led me to understand the complex interaction of drinking alcohol on the brain and how it causes so many problems especially with addiction and depression. Alcohol is a drug and yet it's seen as a perfectly normal and legal substance to consume in many societies around the world outside of Muslims nations. Alcohol has direct links to certain cancers as well as liver and kidney disease and also psychological disorders.

    I've pretty much not drank alcohol for so long, my body reacts too strongly to it but this last weekend I put a shot in a hot drink and I experienced something that reminded me why I don't drink. I did get that let down relaxation so I laid down for a nap and that's when it got weird, every single tooth in my jaw became hypersensitive and hurt in a way I couldn't explain. I laid there in extreme pain for at least 30 min until I finally fell asleep. I'll pass on that and I don't know why it happened, it was so bizarre. One of my more enlightened awarenesses, why do we drink wine pretending to drink another humans blood and pretend to eat their flesh? You can explain with apologetics all you want but something is very weird about that. You can take on enlightened teachings without satanic rituals.
