    Hello, thank you for this video, although I repeated it again and still miss the basics of the correct method in any place I need breathing or exercise, and so it is better to bring it back to the scoliosis patient to benefit more and thank you for your efforts

    Hi!! I love your videos. I am sporty and I am very careful with the movements I do: I do lots of core exercises (especially with the Swiss Ball) then lunges, pull ups, push-ups, plunks and other good exercises perfectly executed such as pilates squats and deadlifts with very light weights. I have a scolioses, not a very serious one, but still, it is there. I am 40. As a young man (I was 15-16) a specialist (a doctor who was also a professor at university specialises in scoliosis and postural problems) suggested that I should have a heel lift of 5 mm to start (even though the gap was of 1 cm or more). The reason? Easy, my legs have the same length and more than a 5 mm correction would increase the thoracic curve; basically the lumbar curve decreases while the thoracic increases...also he added something about the rotation of the spine or of the pelvis, I can't remember. I did X rays after a few months (wearing the heel lift) and the doctor said that it was working (in terms of preventing the scoliosis from getting worse) however he added that as I turned 20 the heel lift would be useless since it does not fix the problem and just prevents the problem from getting worse. I stopped wearing the heel lift when I was 38 just to see what would happen. I was fine for the first few months then, after 4-5 months, I started having pain down my left femur and knee (not to talk of my lower back). I went to see a physiotherapist who said that my lumbar scoliosis almost disappears when I lay on my belly and but it is evident when I stand; this is due to a postural problem. He measured my legs again and said they have the same length. He told me to wear a thicker heel lift to correct the pelvis even though he explained to me that my thoracic curve would increase (he saw that while doing attempts to reduce my lumbar curve by using different heel lifts). I explained to him that a specialist in the past told me that that could be a dangerous corrections but he said that it would be fine. I did not completely trust him and I started to wear a 6mm heel lift (around half the needed heel lift according to him). I was feeling well, finally!!! However, after 7 weeks I started having pain mainly on the other side of my body; the right femur which had never hurt before)...my back pain is not as bad but the pain has moved to the other side.... Now I am puzzled. Any ideas about what the right fix might be? Thanks!!! Daniel

    If this type of therapy is meant to be "3-D-Skoliose-Therapie nach Schroth" I have to correct you: what is shown in your video is in no way the schroth-principle! I am a german PT and a certified Schroth-Therapist, learned this method at it's original place of foundation, the Katharina-Schroth-Klinik in Bad Sobernheim, Germany. And I am working with scoliosis patients in my PT-clinic. I think, if you want to give properly advices about treating scoliosis according to the Schroth-method, you should do that in a more correct way. The correction of the lumbar arc (left-convex) is - for example - to correct by lowering and slightly backward rotate the right pelvis (and not the left, as you shown it in your video, this way you emphasise the pathologic lumbar arc). Next, the thoracal right-convex arc is to correct by elevating the left arm (in your video the arms are hanging passive downwards), furthermore the way and direction of breathing was not told in a right way by you and so on... you are welcome to Germany to get a real training in the method of Schroth - and afterwards you will not make such misstakes anymore. Best regards, Ralph Lacher (www.physiotherapie-lacher.de)

    Went to these folks about 15 years ago. They originally said I had an anatomical short leg off of just looking at an xray from the hip up. Said I should wear a lift. Suspecting they might be inaccurate, I obtained a cat scan of my leg length, which showed NO leg length difference. First off, they have no medical license to diagnose. Secondly, they approach the idea of an anatomical short leg inaccurately. What most people with scoliosis have are functional short leg issues relevant to rotation and unilateral muscle imbalances. These are what need to be addressed. Putting a lift in on physical observation alone due to the observation of a higher hip on an xray only creates another problem and could be considered malpractice.

    Interesting. Thank you for sharing this. I've been looking for more information on scoliosis to try and find some ways to relieve pain on my own, but have only found that not much is known. Where would I be able to find those lifts, and how would I know how much lift I need?
    Also, does my scoliosis diagnosis definitely mean one leg is shorter? I was never told that, but it feels that way.

      I have scoliosis. A PT therapist measured my legs. They are the same length. Scoliosis doesn't always mean uneven legs, so don't assume.

      tracy grammer because of HIPPA. It basically prevents patients from having their identity revealed in relation to their medical condition. Any sort of identifying info such as face, name, DOB, med records number, etc, cannot be given where their medical condition is stated.

    Is it works for lumbar c type scoliosis

  • @tombarry1824
    @tombarry1824 6 лет назад

    I haven't seen that supine treatment before with lifting of legs to engage tranverse ab.
    The one I am famliar with for right thoracic "s"curve, is placing wedges at the convexities right thoracic and left lumbar (pushing them forward and inward). Also pads under Left upper shoulder and right pelvis for corrective derotation of those areas. Then breathing into the concavities.
    Do you think it would be beneficial if I also incorporated the flexing at the hip to engage Transverse abs with the placement I described?

      Little Marine I have scoliosis, and I underwent schroth therapy training for 1 week, 8 hours a day. Afterwards, I did the exercise whenever I was idle, since no real equipment is needed for most of the schroth exercises. The initial training has to be vigorous because the method is to train the body to move in a way that is corrective. I don't do specific exercises anymore, but I have developed awareness of my spine. Like, I breathe differently than I used to. My scoliosis curves lessened by 10 degrees each, going from what was considered moderate to mild. It's really wonderful how this method helped me get in control of my condition, despite my doctor saying that there was no way to correct it besides surgery.
