      why? this is what you get when you build just a few feet above the usuall waterline in an area that is well known for having frequent hurricanes.

      It is a flood plain and this is inevitable. They shouldn't be there because it's going to happen again next year and the next and....the land will be reclaimed by the ocean. It is natural. 3 hurricanes in 5 years. I

      We know this is going to happen sooner or later. Why are people allowed to build in a flood prone area ? They are using the ocean as a garbage dump ! Should never happen !

      The should never have started building there in the first place ! Why are people using the ocean as their dumping grounds ? No one should ever build in flood prone areas ! NO ONE !

    I feel for these people.
    However, please let this be a lesson that they all need to move away from that area and NOT MOVE BACK.
    The Hurricanes are just gonna be getting worse from here on out.
    Moving back is sheer stupidity.

    Too much inhabitation on the coastline why would anyone build a highway with a low bridge section along the beach in a hurricane zone just poor infrastructure planning from the beginning

      Unfortunatly the issue of Building isnt anything new, been happening Pre-60s; Im sure itd be a complex issue to unpack.

Is it responsible to put all your belongings along the ocean front knowing Hurricanes do happen ? Then continue to do it year after year ???? Id say that is irresponsible !
      Not here in Iowa......simple... if you didnt sell out to FEMA......your on your own. And you the owner would be responsible for clean up.
      Interesting though...... FEMA " is " the government........but they pick and choose who they buy out ?

    Rather difficult to understand these prople. 3 hurricanes in 5 years and they will rebuild again. It's senseless. They should save themselves from future annual hurricanes by moving off the flood plain. No one is supposed to live in flood plains for this very reason. Within 10 years the coastline will be quite a bit further inland. The ocean will reclaim the land. It is natural. Hope everyone is able to recover emotionally. It's a terrible terrible situation.
