  • Tornadoes wreaked havoc on Friday in the midwestern US, causing a building to collapse with dozens of people inside and destroying and damaging hundreds of homes, many around Omaha, Nebraska. As of Friday night, there were several reports of injuries but no immediate deaths reported. Tornado warnings continued to be issued into the night in Iowa

    In these prone areas, they should make under ground bunkers.

    I have an honest question? Why wouldnt you use concrete(cement?) and reinforced steel? Using wood in tornado country seems more expensive in the long term.

      @AmateurPlays 16 дней назад +4

      The chance your house gets hit by a tornado are probably extremely low I would imagine. If it is something like 0.000001% then people probably don’t bother.

      Thank you! I'm a french airline pilot, love your country and your people and I keep asking me the same question. I have american friends who have spent more money on cars (and boats and light airplanes) than a proper built house. Those are sheds...

    Why don't Americans build houses with bricks and cement? Here in the UK wooden buildings are called huts or sheds, like temporary buildings or disposable.

      Tornadoes tear up everything including steal and concrete and brick. Basements are a must

    • @jackvankirk8552
      @jackvankirk8552 16 дней назад +2

      It's cheaper, and thus more affordable. Though if I were in charge, I'd require houses to have either basements or an above-ground shelter room where basements are unfeasible, and community shelters for apartment complexes.

      No, it won't leave. Your homeowners insrance will go up to cover the loss. I live in Nebraska and my first home that I purchased was in a floodplain. The area hadn't flooded in 40 years but I had to carry additional flood insurance along with homeowners. My flood policy premium assisted with covering all those houses on the east coast that were destroyed by hurricanes.
