In punishing, record-breaking heat, I help my local crows cool off with cold watermelon and shiny new water bowls. Watch all the way through to meet "Roberto the Crow"!

Good to see you! I'm very lazy about chopping up watermelon; maybe I should try to cut it up into smaller pieces. Hope you are well!

Awesome video! I love it when they picked up the little cubes. We’ve been eating some watermelon here in Texas too! Love it with salt! 😊

Have you tried offering them a shower? I did (last year) but without much success. I irrigate the lawn in front of my balcony anyway. The crows like to walk up to the water jet (like half a meter away) but they never walked into it. And left when I pointed it at them. But, of course, it does not get that hot here in Germany (luckily...). And the crows in Berlin have the advantage of not being completely black but mostly grey.

I have thought about this! Yesterday a catbird enjoyed a shower in one of our bird baths, courtesy of a starling who was splashing around there. I think I'd just scare the crows, though, if I tried spraying them with the hose. We don't run sprinklers. Stay cool! ❄

@@thesuburbanmorriganmaybe you could try a mini sprinkler, like for a terrarium on the picnic table

      Saludos a Roberto😍😀

Yes, and yes! This particular shelf was found a few yards away, as I recall. Once a shelf went missing and wasn't located until our gutters were cleaned!

I think "Roberto" smelled the watermelon juice on the external lens and tried to eat it. I know passerines are supposed to have a poor sense of smell, but he was so close to the camera, I think he could sense it.
