Watching them break Robert, probably Stairway’s biggest critic, gets me the most. He was truly humbled and proud at once. That, the choir at the end, and having Jason on the drums makes this my favorite Zeppelin cover I’ve ever heard.
The reason the choir and the drummer is wearing black bowler hats, the original drummer John Bonham used to wear one. The drummer here is John's son Jason Bonham. When Jason looks up at the end, he's looking up at his father.
John Bonham was best friends with Robert Plant and was the godfather to Jason. Robert had asked Jason to accompany them that night, but Jason said he had another gig. When Robert saw him there he was thrilled and very emotional. That’s what started the wet eyes. Love this tribute and loved your review!
I don't know how many times I've watched this performance throughout the years. 🥲 It's just completely emotional. Ann and Nancy killed it. They are still one of the greatest and what an honor to sing one of the greatest songs ever !
Now you must do the cover of “While my Guitar gently Weeps” from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. The Prince guitar solo is one of the best of all time.
I'm sitting here all teary-eyed. So glad I watched it for the first time with you guys. I love Heart, but I've avoided listening to it because Zeppelin is iconic and I believed no one cold do S2H justice. This, however, was fan-freaking-tastic. LEGENDS ON LEGENDS! Dang those layers!
There are a couple of things about this performance that had me choked up the first time I saw it. First of all, the whole performance itself was epic and they obviously went out of their way to make it epic. A full choir? Anne and Nancy. And can we take just a moment to appreciate the balls on Shane Fontayne to step out there and play that lead in front of Jimmy? Add Jason Bonham on the drums to the list of awesomeness. Aside from all that though, back in the day when Led Zeppelin was popular they took a lot of heat from certain political corners as being a satanic band, blah, blah...And there was always the rumors of back masking satanic messages in that song, so to see them give that tribute at the Kennedy Center, in front of Obama and half of Washington, meant a lot. At least to me.
My mom was a BIG Zeppelin fan & when she passed we played the original version at her funeral. But when I came across this I made this my song for my mom cause I can't listen to this song without crying & thinking of her. ❤️🙏 RIP mom
A flawless performance and in my view better than the original. I get goosebumps every time I watch it. Jason wearing the bowler as a nod to his dad, the eye contact between Jason and Robert, the power of the choir coming in, Heart honouring friends they’d toured with…Ann’s voice was extraordinary and Nancy killed the guitar. Perfect from start to finish.
Yes, when they show them at the beginning, the man on the left is John Paul Jones, the man in the middle is Robert Plant, and the man on the right is Jimmy Page. You referred to Ann in the past tense. She is very much alive. The combination of Jason Bonham drumming in tribute to his father, that choir, and the band’s reaction makes me so emotional. Thank you for blessing us with this reaction.
Massive props to the guitarist playing one of Jimmy Page's iconic solos... in front of Jimmy Page. No pressure there.. And dude nails it. Jason Bonham did his dad proud that night, too.
I saw this on TV when they did the live broadcast. Cried then, cry every time I see it. This was church, that's all there is to it. (Original song released when I was in high school. To me, the best rock song of all time. So happy to see younger generations carry the appreciation forward. Thank you.)
The absolute greatest cover of all time. I was fortunate enough to see Heart in concert here in South Louisiana in 2019. They performed this song and it was f’ing amazing! Ann was 68 and Nancy was 64!! They blew it away!
They didn't surprise them with this cover. Whenever a musician receives this honor, fellow musicians play some of their songs as a tribute. Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz and the Foo Fighters all played songs for Led Zeppelin too. Heart has always been big fans of Led Zeppelin. This was not the first time for them playing this song, although it was the best.
You got it right brother. That was John Bonhams son Jason playing the drums. You are also correct on the hat that he was wearing was a John Bonham trademark. If you re watch it you’ll see the entire choir are wearing that style hat to pay homage to him.The part of this video that gets me in the feels is there is a shot of Robert Plant and he is actually shedding tears. One of the best live performances I have ever witnessed
I have seen about 70 reactions to this song. I cried watching you cry and feel the music! That's what reactions are all about!! Emoting emotions! Fantastic
The Kennedy Center Honors are annual honors given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. They have been presented annually since 1978, culminating each December in a gala celebrating the honorees in the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C
I knew the journey you would be going on as I am a huge fan of Ann Wilson. I enjoyed your reaction, had me grinning from ear to ear because Ann always brings it. The drummer is the son of the original drummer for Ledzeppelin so very emotional performance for him too. Heart rock like few ladies did back in the day and they were beautiful inside and out and still are. To this day I haven't seen them live but I ain't dead yet so there is hope.
Members of Zeppelin in attendance and I believe the drummer playing with Heart is the son of the original Zeppelin drummer if I am not mistaken here. ONE OF THE GREATEST TRIBUTES I HAVE EVER HEARD. The Wilson Sisters are truly gifted 🔥🔥🔥
The first time I watched this I cried. As a brit I'm really proud of the amazing history we have with producing the best rock bands on the planet. Although heart are America I don't believe that anyone could have done it better. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
That “when all are one and one is all” part, the way she belts that out… damn that moves me to tears every time. Love Ann and Nancy 😊❤️ “Our shadows taller than our souls” has always been a favorite lyric. Apparently Robert Plant being moved to tears had less to do with Heart’s performance and more to do with missing his dear friend John (Bonham)… seeing his son playing the drums, looking like his dad, and everyone in the bowler hats… just kind of made him grieve a little bit all over again 😢 That little chest pat directed to Jason at the end, though 🥰
The moment that gets me every single time is when Jason Bonham looks up when she sings "she's buying a stairway to heaven". Now I'm not a religious person in any way. Don't believe in a god or heaven. But seeing Jason looking up makes me wanna believe John is looking down at his son, grinning ear to ear with pride.
And it was his dad’s drum set that he pulled out for the performance. I’m sure that touched Robert as well. Just a stunning picture perfect tribute!!!!!
Not surprising is that a year later Heart was Inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. Back in the early and mid-70s' Heart did open for Led Zepplin a few times.
A memorable performance that I will never forget. The performers, especially the Wilson sisters, the choir and the orchestra poured their "heart" out in doing the greatest rock song ever by the greatest group ever Led Zeppelin. Loved the reaction from you guys, this song also gave me chills.
Not only did they absolutely nail it, but to do so in front of a star studded audience including not only the President (Obama was the encumbent when this video was made) but also the gods themselves... absolute stone cold magic and the perfect tribute to Led Zep. And the smiles and tears from the surviving members of the band are the perfect tribute to Heart's performance.
I was a teenager when this song came out. I have easily heard it 2500 times or more. I have seen this clip, easily about 30 times. It still gives me chills and makes me cry every single time. Her voice is impeccable. The orchestra, the choir, Nancy on that acoustic guitar, Jason Bonham on those drums paying a most fitting tribute to his father. Not one wasted note. This is what perfection in a live performance looks and sounds like. "Artists" of today will never hold a candle. Ever.
One of the most amazing covers of Stairway to heaven I have ver seen, and by the look on all the band members faces I think they would agree. And yes that was John Bonhams son on drums. Every time I watch this I get chills. Awesome reaction to an awesome song by and awesome band...Props to Ann Wilson for slaying this.
The Kennedy Center in Washington DC gives life time achievement award. That night Led Zeppelin and David letterman were honored. The president usually attends along with other big name people. There were celebrities and musicians honoring Dave and zeppelin. Heart was the big finale of the night.
Ann Wilson was 62yr at the time of this performance..yes that was the drummers son, Jason...check out the reunion concert Led Zeppelin did with Jason doing the drumming, it's called Celebration Day. When that concert was first announced, requests for 20 million tickets came in
Heart is one of Led Zeppelins favorite groups which is why they were asked to sing this for them to honor them for this tribute. John Bonham was their drummer, he passed away. His son jason is the drummper for this song, and jimmy paige, the one with the silver pony tail wrote this song.
It's a brilliant performance, not the least of which because Anne's voice is held up so brilliantly all these years. Hart had a pre-existing reputation for covering Zeppelin songs all the way back into the 1970s, and doing them very convincingly. However I think this is the first time they actually had Bonafide Zeppelin second generation blood in their band in the form of drummer Jason Bonham the son of Zeppelin's deceased drummer John Bonham. Dude plays his ass off on this as well. Really heartwarming. No pun intended.
The surprise is the drummer is Jason Bonham, John's son. And, Heart was asked last minute to sing that song. But, go back and watch the entire Kennedy Center Honors, Jack Black is hysterical. President Obama was also teasing LZ when he presented the medals to them..it's worth watching. Watch Adam Lambert perform "Believe" at Cher's Kennedy Center Honors ceremony.
I would agree with the cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the RnR Hall of Fame for George Harrison's induction. Prince's guitar solo is epic. One of the best live covers
They were being honored for their body of music, not just "Stairway. If you get a chance to watch the whole tribute, there were a number of musicians who paid tribute doing various Zep songs. The Heart tribut was over-the-top amazing! That was John Bonham's son playing the drums - his dad would be so proud of him; I know that the members of Zep are - he's toured with them. Fun fact: Robert called Jason Bonham to tell him about the award and invite him to join them and he declined, saying that had something else going on. Robert was a little hurt and surprised by his refusal, because they were really looking forward to it and the Kennedy Center Honors are a pretty big deal. They were surprised and thrilled to see him on stage - there are other videos showing their reaction to his being there - unfortunately, you happened to watch a version that left a lot out.
If you ever want to hear another Led Zeppelin cover by Ann and Nancy, try “Battle of Evermore” - do the LZ original first, then straight into Heart’s live version. (With Ann playing guitar and Nancy on mandolin) Put both on one reaction video !
Heart were always big Led Zepp fans and would always cover some of their songs in their concerts back in the day, and were excellent at it too. It is no wonder Ann and Nancy would be chosen to do the finally number on a masterpiece of a song for this event.
Anne has one of the best voices in rock even now. Her soul is in everything she sings. "Say Hello" off the Little Queen album is a simple song but it shows some of her range. They are an amazing band that I had the honor of seeing live. Good times ❤️❤️
Robert Plant once said he didn’t like it when others covered this song……until this night. Ann’s vocals are on point as always and Nancy Guitar intro was spot on. This was an unbelievable tribute to a legendary song. Rock Goddesses paying tribute to Rock Gods!!! Doesn’t get any better.
I listen to this version when I need good feels when I’m having a bad time because it’s so beautiful. I’m glad you guys listened to this. I may be pushing your genre boundaries by going full orchestral, but there’s an awesome version of Schism by Tool done by a full orchestra. It’s the first video that comes up when you look up “orchestral version of schism.” It’s really cool and it gives me goosebumps every time because of how well it’s composed
Studying Robert Plant, you just know it's him because of the smile and that curly hair that still falls down a bit over his forehead. This performance is one of three of my favorite live performances - alongside Queen's "Someone to Love" (live from Montreal in '81) and Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon" when they performed it for The Midnight Special in 1976. But, yes, Heart killed it and you have to have a certain type of voice to sing this song and Robert and Anne have it (obviously).
Led Zepplin members in the audience: John Paul Jones, Robert Plant, and Jimmy Page. Originally drummer, John Bonham passed away. His son Jason is on the drums in the video. At the end you’ll notice Jason looking towards heaven and blowing his father a kiss.
The bands both hold a huge amount of respect for eachother, Heart plays at least one Zeppelin cover in every show, Zeppelin was an enormous influence on the sisters, so they were really the only choice for this specific song, all of the artists honoring them knew Anne was the only vocalist who could do it justice, and boy did she ever, dont forget the sisters grew up practicing this song out of pure love and admiration, all of their Zeppelin covers are epic, all of them.💜
I saw Zeppelin preform STH live on May 5, 1973 in Tampa with 68,000.00+ other Zepheads. It was my first concert. Zeppelin has always been my favorite band. Thanks for your reaction.
Robert Plant reduced to tears, watching his late best friend John Bonham's son Jason absolutely SLAY that performance (and when he looks up to heaven when Ann sings the long a capella "to heaven" to his Dad literally tears me up everytime I see this!!) - they all SLAYED IT; Heart and every single musician and singer up there!!! But seeing Robert react like that, showing his absolute heartfelt appreciation for the fact that they managed to include John's memory by having his son take his place, literally in tears - truly touches me and every other Led Zeppelin fan out there (which basically ought to include every sane person on the planet who can hear!!) AMAZING!!!! XXXXX
Every time I watch this (which is a couple of times a year) I just exhale so deeply by the end of it because it’s too much for me to handle. It’s so good. It’s incredible.
Heart has always paid tribute to Led Zeppelin in their concerts. This version is mind blowing. No other female singer could have done that song like Anne Wilson.
Best. Tribute. Ever. I love the way the whole thing started out so low key, and rose to a crescendo by the end of the song. Ann knocked it out of the ball park on vocals, and everybody else kept right up with her. Jason played the hell out of those drums and made his daddy proud. Shane Fontayne, what can I say - he stepped up to the plate and did a fine job on Jimmy Page's guitar solo. The symphony and the choirs were absolutely the icing on the cake. I believe proper tribute was paid to Led Zeppelin with this performance.
"This is a masterpiece"! Spot on guys, you hit the nail on the head with that comment.... When John passed away (I think in the mid 70's). Zeppelin by and large disbanded as a touring group (there were a couple tours, but Robert stated it was never the same without his close friend). Plant took Jason under his wing, and treated him as his own son. Prior to this performance, Robert invited Jason to attend this in his father's absence. Jason, already knowing about this set, used the excuse he had another commitment for this evening and sadly declined! Had the video had just another minute, you would have seen the surprise when Jason climbed in to his kit! So for me, I normally do not enjoy "covers". But I do have a "Holy Trinity", when it comes to rerecording. This obvious epic. Bad Wolf's cover of the Cranberries Zombie, which Dolores O'Riordan was set to perform on and literally died the night before recording! I strongly recommend if you have not covered Bad Wolf's version, do the original again first, then the cover (it adds perspective)!!!! And finally, "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed, (the original was partially a statement about the assassination of JFK, and that doesn't translate well to this cover, but the rest of the message is delivered in spades).
I cannot tell you how many times I have watched this reaction video. It's cheered me up when I'm feeling down and makes me believe that good artists will, eventually, get the recognition they deserve from a younger generation. My favorite part is when Smokey says, at the end, "Get it."
Greatest cover tribute ever! For next Heart song, strongly suggest Alone, either official video or a more acoustic version live in Seattle, great song and showcase for Ann's vocals. If you want to hear Nancy take lead and Ann do backup, try These Dreams.
Hands down the best cover performance of all time! Seeing the three remaining members of Zeppelin there and Jon’s son killing it in his style of drumming along with the choir wearing Bonham’s signature bowler hat is just unreal! I’ll never watch this video and not tear up. Just an absolute master class of a performance! Also, the homie who looked like Shelton from Big Bang Theory shreds Paige’s solo!
History made! Have had the blessing of seeing both historical bands live. Love you guys for sharing. Annie and Nancy are absolutely wonderful women. You may want to watch more Heart videos. Led Zeppelin was in the audience.
I was 12 years old when I found Led Zeppelin with their album, The Song Remains the Same. I fell instantly in love with Jimmy Page and his awesome guitar!! All my friends fell in love with the lead singers of the bands while I swooned between the lead guitar, rhythm guitar and bass guitar. I'm reaching level 60 this year (2024), and I recently found this performance/masterpiece... It blew me away! So tonight I've been binging on reactions to this from my favorite reactors. When you guys popped up I saw I had already watched yours, but I freakin' love you guys and your reactions, so I watched it again! I love this performance SO much because the Queen of Rock and Roll is singing the Gods of Rock and Roll's most iconic song TO THEIR SMILING FACES! Having Jason there was the cherry on top! 😊 I have watched reactions to this at least close to a hundred since I first found it. Tonight I've watched about 20 so far. I truly enjoy sharing this with you two... But what I ADORE is watching Jimmy Page's face throughout the song and at the end. Ann and Nancy gave the single BEST tribute to a band ever!! Much Love! 💖

I have a stairway tattoo on my right forarm for my mom for the same reason. This cover is the only one I can listen to cuz it's soooo well done
@@_griffin82_46you 😢brought a tear to my eyes my friend I have never met....rip to your beautiful mom
Agree. For me better than the original! I love it.
Thank you.)
Same, same
The beast on the drums was Johm Bonham's son wearing his dad's famous Bowler, the chorus was also wearing Bowler hats in honor of Bonham.
The absolute greatest cover of all time. I was fortunate enough to see Heart in concert here in South Louisiana in 2019. They performed this song and it was f’ing amazing!
Ann was 68 and Nancy was 64!! They blew it away!
It even hurts to call it a cover. It's an elevation of the original. Just perfect!
That was amazing, fucking amazing!
There are very few times when a cover can equal or surpass the original. This one definitely was one to remember.
Every time I listen to this cover I cry, it is BEAUTIFUL
Unbelievable performance!!! Heart gave a historical performance!! I could watch this every day!!!
I NEVER get tired of watching people experience this for the FIRST time!❣️
The first time I watched this I cried. As a brit I'm really proud of the amazing history we have with producing the best rock bands on the planet. Although heart are America I don't believe that anyone could have done it better. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
That was definitely a love letter from fans to Zeppelin. One of the few music videos that you can really feel the energy from. Gets me ever time.
The best EVER cover of a classic. And this Zep fan has tears in his eyes. Keep on Rocking.
@@avanoosterhout8397 agreed 100% 😊
And it was his dad’s drum set that he pulled out for the performance. I’m sure that touched Robert as well. Just a stunning picture perfect tribute!!!!!
@@Kashmir.820 yes!! 😊

41 years old here, metalhead, but everytime i saw this tribute, i fucking cry! Cheers form Portugal Trash Talkers!
Yo yo Ma as well, I think
This is such an emotional performance, I tear up every time I watch this.
I've seen this multiple times...crying AGAIN.
This song is awesome and this cover just fantastic! I can't help but cry everytime i hear this performance...
Ann Wilson was 62yr at the time of this performance..yes that was the drummers son, Jason...check out the reunion concert Led Zeppelin did with Jason doing the drumming, it's called Celebration Day. When that concert was first announced, requests for 20 million tickets came in
If you want to explain the power of "Rock 'n' Roll", just show this performance.
I believe Jason is a regular drummer for Heart.
Your faces said it all and i was with you , great review :)
It’s OK to cry. I do every time I hear it.
That was awesome! I cant believe I've never seen this before. Thanks for doing this one guys!
I have that same reaction every time I see this. Love your reaction! Love you guys. You appreciate music, even when it’s outside your experience.
The drum kit that Jason is playing is his dads kit the same kit that the song was recorded on
Not often you see reactors legit applaud at the end of a performance. This one absolutely deserved it!
That is the best live tribute I have ever seen! Goose bumps! I have to watch this performance anytime it shows up!
I would agree with the cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" at the RnR Hall of Fame for George Harrison's induction. Prince's guitar solo is epic. One of the best live covers
This performance is amazing and I'm not gonna lie. I tear up almost every time lol.
So glad you guys reacted to this.
That performance never gets old huge Zeppelin fan. They did a beautiful tribute.
(With Ann playing guitar and Nancy on mandolin)
Put both on one reaction video !
And Shayne just KILLED that guitar solo. In front of Jimmy Page!
This is and always will be the best dedication and cover to this classic!!!
I return regularly to this amazing performance from 2012... over and over again, it gives me chill every time!
Felt like he was saying " You made it up that stairway Dad".
The single most touching moment for me was at the end when Jason looked up to Heaven at his father.
Members of Led Zeppelin finally got to hear the song and feel like their audiences did all those years.
The best cover ever!!! ❤️❤️🥰🥰🙌🙌 Gives me chills every time!!
Yeah, this and Disturb's 'Sound of Silence' move me every time. And I dislike covers immensly.
@@huchlvr I love to watch the reactions to those 2 songs! Absolutely the 2 best covers ever!
"This is a masterpiece" sure as heck is... well said!
I've seen Heart five times and each time they did a Led Zeppelin cover. A different one every year. Never has a better cover of LZ been recorded.
XXXXX
Wow what a performance. Such a honor to perform this at this ceremony. Watch the whole concert. Lenny Kravitz performs too.
Bonzo died in 1980
@@staciojeda4146 Yes, thank you for the correction. My bad ...
@@kurthealey6936 you're welcome. I thought you'd want to know.
Much Love! 💖
