This episode is by no means comprehensive and I definitely thought of things to add after the fact but this episode was long enough and I could talk about foraging for days. For those that don't know I have also picked many types of wild foods including mushrooms, berries, flowers and herbs on a commercial level for herbalists and wild food distributors.

I’m Amanda and Frank is my co-pilot. We are new to youtube but have lived in a van for 8 years. I am a photographer and forager. We enjoy hiking, camping, climbing and being outside as much as we can. We have countless stories and lessons to share and look forward to becoming better videographers, thank you for coming along.

Hi Amanda, I'm trying to subscribe to skillshare using the link but it keeps saying "site cannot be reached, check if typo". I think I saw another similar comment here too.
I love how intimitly you are informed about foraging, knowing every aspect of the process and not just identification. I also appreciate your determination to provide instruction and share your devout sense of responsibility.
When my grandfather was a young man in Italy, his friends asked him to go with them to forage for mushrooms. He declined. Six of his friends died of poisoning. Your advice is welcome and so important. Thank you for taking the time to present this video.
I really appreciate how responsible you are by encouraging people to educate theirselves about how to identify and conserve these resources. It’s one of the reasons I subscribe to your channel. I hope you’re feeling much better now. Take care of yourself and Frank. 🙂
Thank you. It’s important so everyone can enjoy foraging for years to come.
Wow, imagine if there were more Amanda's in this world. How awesome our world would be. Thank you for taking the time to give us some of your foraging knowledge . One of my favorite videos.
I hope you feel as well as you look Amanda. I was excited to see a video this morning and on foraging to boot! I'm one of the many who asked you to address the subject. So thank you! I wish you and anyone reading this comment to have a great day!
I hope you find it helpful 😃
@@tidelinetoalpine I did thanks!
I love the foraging content. Please do more of these. I have been loving your channel since I found it. I love that you are real and not over the top or acting. It's like checking in with a friend who likes the things you like. Thanks for all that you do.
Thank you ☺️
So glad you're back! My mom was very good at find morels. I would walk by them and she would see them. So fun. Watching you and your mom brings back great memories. Thanks.
Thanks for all the advice! So glad you are feeling better. My Son bought 10 acres in the country here in the states, and we have went morel mushroom hunting the last 2 years. He found 2 old ones, and I have found none. But continue to try every year. Frank is so sweet, I just love him. I had to put Ms Stumples down last week, she had 100% kidney failure. I spent a whole week, giving IV fluids, twice a day, and pain meds. I even took her for her acupuncture and got her antibiotics, captured her urine to do lab work, nothing worked, I spent the last week, sleeping next to her, and enjoying the sunrise with her every morning. I don't think the sadness ever goes away. But feel so blessed I had her since she was born, and she was my best friend for 17 years. I wanted to share this with you, because I can't do patreon. Love you and Frank. Sending Peace and Love to both of You!
I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Frank and I are sending lots of love during this difficult time 💜
@@tidelinetoalpine Thank you so much Amanda. I had went to my Son's to help w/chickens. Came back and she was so sick. I felt so guilty, I thought, Amanda would of NEVER left Frank. But Stumples was a Kitty, and she never traveled. :) Thanks so much for your kindness, it truly means so much to me.
You were such a wonderful pet parent! It was just her time. Ms. Stumples LOVED you, and her spirit will be with you forever!💕
I'm so sorry. Reminds me when I lost mine . Every possible moment was spent with them even if I had to sleep on the floor next to them in their last days. She was truly cared for and loved by you. She was lucky to have you and died loved.
Wonderful to see you and Frank! This was a foraging inspiration, I really enjoyed it! You’re an awesome educator, thank you for providing this video!
Happy foraging!
🐾💜🐾💚🐾💜🐾💚🐾💜🐾
Good to see you back at it Amanda. You and Frank are awesome. Hope you feel tip top soon, but try not to over do anything. Take your time, we`ll all still be here.
I'm so glad you discussed sustainability in foraging. The concern is real.
There are many reasons I’m a big fan of yours. Your dedication to responsibility (in so many facets not just foraging) and the fact that you speak out about it is one of my top reasons to love you.
You and Frank bring Joy
Thanks for keeping it real, Amanda! No fancy clothes required to forage! Love your thinking on the basket and leash - everything must have multiple uses when living in a small space!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and advice Amanda... this is so helpful ! Hope you are feeling better and have a wonderful week ahead.
Awesome to see you again! Great foraging with your mom. I garden and consider it a workout, for sure. Awesome foraging talk, thank you!! YAY on the drone!!!!!! Happy summer everyone.👍😎🇨🇦🌲💜🐾💘
The drone will be a game changer. If we thought your videography was amazing before watch out you will be taking your videos to a whole new level. Can’t wait. It’s going to be fabulous ❤
Thank you for sharing about foraging! Hope this video is the first of many! Good health to you and Frank!!💜💚
One of your BEST VIDEOS...Yet😋
Looking forward to the Drone addition 💯
Thanks for the Patreon sneak peek ❣✌🏽🙏
Excellent educational video 🌲🌿
Let the party begin as your drone dances across the sky! 🌤
Ack! Been up in the back country for a few weeks, the only downside of having this freedom is missing my fav you tubers videos!
Thank you for this information. Learning to forage feels so overwhelming but I love your practical (and ethical) approach.

Everyone should always take time to invest them themselves. I think Skill share is something that I may look into. I have heard that we must constantly invest in ourselves.

Good morning Amanda, hope you are feeling much better ❤️ Thank you for sharing!! Sending you and Frank all kinds of good energy 🙏🏽🌻
It would be really awesome if you published a book with your amazing photography skills on plants, mushrooms, etc.
Great video! I really enjoy your content. Thanks for sharing your time with us! I look forward to seeing you every week with something new and exciting to share!😀❤💚💛🧡😀
So happy to see y'all having fun. I'd love to pick and eat those delicious mushrooms. Wonderful to watch.
Glad you are feeling better. Give Frank I big hug for me. 💚💚💚
Love ❤️ your channel 👍🏾
SMART SMART SMART SMART SMART!!!
#FORAGING & Identifiying life saving edibles... hope you've built a home/van library for growing in knowledge & skills
It’s so great that you got a drone, how fun! I was wondering how you got that shot of Truck on the bridge. Thanks for the great foraging information.
During WW2 in Great Britain, they collected rose hips and turned them into preserves to supplement vitamin C, which they couldn't get from imported fruit.
Just loved this video so much. You look so good. Beautiful, healthy and happy. Thank you for sharing all you know about foraging. You talked about aspects I've haven't thought of, and are so important.
Thank you again so much.
I live in morel country in the Appalachians of Ohio/WV. I've never found any in the wild and now I know why. They're so much smaller than I realized!
Congratulations on getting a drone ! This will be so much fun. Thank you for book recommendations. Have a good week stay safe and take care of yourself.
Thank you Amanda for all you do. Your energy revs me up. Foraging is a blast. My brother taught me and bookshelf of books. Love you and Frank❣️
its so special to get to witness your growth and now a drone! how fun! i wish i wasn't trapped in a city and had places to forage that were not covered in exhaust dust. keep bringing us along ! cant wait for the truck updates. you're so lucky to have decent parents, im disabled and did not win the family lottery- no mechanic area, no homeowners, no yards to forage or work in. maybe next lifetime. sending yall love.
Great info & so glad to see you're feeling better! Love to Frank 🐾🚐🏞
6:23 mark: Good Words on ignoring appearances or comparisons, and on just doing it. I like these nuggets of wisdom that are applicable to a variety of situations.
Thanks Mike 😊
YOU HAVE A DRONE!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOO!!! Can't wait to see all the amazing content you're going to get!! And..on a completely different topic...you look and sound like you're feeling better! Enjoy those morels darlin...cheers💜
I'm a botanist and Nature Lover, and I think you're spot on on everything you said. I love David Aurora's book! I had a similar experience to yours with what I thought were truffles, but it was out the other end😂 Good thing I cooked them or who knows what might have resulted! I love coral and cauliflower mushrooms. Another good guideline is to always leave some plants/fruiting bodies to keep the stand going in the future. I take only a little here and there. You are awesome, thanks Amanda!💚🌄🌠
foraging feels like a treasure hunt with fun surprises.
Haha yes!!! That’s why I also love rock hounding and fossil hunting.
I admire the fact you brought up how important it is to be respectful of environment and what lives in it. I am going to get that book. I walk in the woods outback and see many different mushrooms. I love mushrooms. Yet, don't know the poisonous ones.
Hats off to you - it really is a talent. I joined a foraging club, read some books, spent hours going to the "right" places and came home with 1 morel. >_< But I had a lot of fun and a healthy appreciation for those who can find them. They are soooo delicious. I'm not giving up.
We are such big fans we just received just received our Frank magnet with his Paul print signature.
I too loved picking Mushrooms and you are right always know what your picking because eating the wrong mushrooms or harvesting any wild foods. Yes your right about saving some for the animals too. I only take enough for eating. Thank you for sharing your very good info. Have a good Sunday. Also your new drone is cool. The drone pictures are so clear and yes first know how to used the camera so you get clear photos. I loved the my Drone.
My goodness! What a great haul of Morels!! Hope you and your Mom enjoyed them. Best to you!
Yay! A drone. Be careful. Mine went swimming on its own after about 3 months. Luckily it was only a DJI Mavic Mini so less money wasted and I’ve been trying to fix it but so far no luck yet. How fun! I miss mine frequently.
So super jealous of all your morels! I am yet to find them - here by us morel spots are very few and their spots very much held secret.
We do find lots of boletes, chicken of the woods, pine rings and termitomyces when we are lucky, though.
Can't wait to see what you do with your drone!
Love the drone shots with the dog
Chanterelles are the only thing I've been comfortable foraging. I keep a net bag in my backpack just in case I come across any. I was taught to use the net bag so the spores could drop. Thanks for your wonderful video and congrats on the drone.
So glad you seem to be recovering well. Much love, health and peace!
i loved this!!! Keep the videos coming. I am also glad you are feeling better.
It's so good to see you!
I've thought of you often since your last video, praying for your speedy recovery. 🙏
Thank you for the info you've shared in this video,I'm going to pick up some of the books you suggested.
The world needs more people as thoughtful and conscientious as you.
This is so fantastic !!
You really have a lot of information to offer people 🍀⭐🦋
I Love your beautiful Soul ⭐👍
You're not too far from Washington state and we have tons and tons and tons of wild ginger. I find it near the "iron horse trail" where it grows along the old train structures so its very easy to pick without uprooting other plants. It also grows on the east side of the state pretty close to the border.
I just love mushrooms but more important-I truly hope you are feeling better. Congratulations on your new "eye in the sky" 👍🙏✌
Your teaching skills are absolutely awesome. Thorough, stressing whats important so simply and then repeating those crucial points to plant them firmly in your listeners mind. I suspect you're a natural because you taught yourself and are an ongoing learner. I have so much respect for your honesty and transparency. Keep well, keep going. You are necessary.
I was so excited to see you bring your new drone out from behind that curtain! You have amazing videography skills, and your channel is such a pleasure to watch because of the ways you record and edit your videos! I look forward to seeing what more you'll create using a drone (a side note: I usually despise drones for how intrusive they feel when they whirl by, but in your creative hands, I'm excited to see what happens!)
I love your chair!!!!! And excited for your drone!!
Excellent excellent vlog. Great instruction, great advise and great reference material referral. I myself am looking for a good sustainable area for Turkey tail and all you mentioned. I love mushrooms cooked or raw. We have so many edible plants here in BC that are so healthy. With the ever rising cost of food, foraging is becoming a viable supplementation option. I look forward to more of your ‘classes’. Cheers from Vancouver eh!
I received my magnet today, thanks so much! It’s weird how much your handwriting looks like mine. Hope you’re recuperating quickly! James
Amanda~
Thank you so much for all the wonderful information on how to start the wild foraging journey. I am absolutely thrilled to get started.
I recently purchased these books as resources:
'Edible Wild Plants - Wild Foods from Dirt to Plate' by: John Kallas, PhD
'The Forager's Harvest- A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants' by: Samuel Thayer
'Peterson Field Guide to Mushrooms of North America' 2nd Edition by: Karl B. McKnight, Joseph R. Rohrer, Kirsten McKnight Ward & Kent H. McKnight
And I bought a foraging basket and it also has a strap attached to it. :)
You are so fascinating Amanda! What a wealth of knowledge and creativity you possess. ✨👏👏👏
Namaste
Outstanding share Miss Amanda. Critically important
points and tips. SO looking forward to the drone footage.
Literally going to be e-p-i-c!! I was thinking though if
Mr. Frankee is jealous of your *COFFEE & CELL* then
how is he going to endure the drone? haha
U should write a book on shrooming and foraging Mand...😁😁😁
Glad to see you are feeling better. I enjoyed watching this. Oh and the new addition is AWESOME!
I am so glad to see you back. Love love the foraging information especially the perspective of how to use tools and resources. I have also been trying to find the video where you make your own flat bread. Any hints?
Hey Amanda that was a great video always look forward to seeing you and Frank you guys always make my day it is so beautiful at your mom and dad‘s amazing I’m so happy for you that you got a drone that is awesome thanks for taking us along have fun and be safe 🇺🇸♥️🙂👍🌍☮️🐾🚐🇨🇦

Amanda you are such a sweet person and so is Frank I just love your videos and I miss them when you are sick I pray that you can stay healthy not for the videos but for your health. thanks for being you!
Loved this!❤ I went foraging for more videos about this subject but was disappointed that you don't have a foraging playlist.😢
Love learning about foraging!! ❤️Yippee ❤️
I am definitely keeping this saved so I can come back to it, just in case I ever want to try this 😊. thank you for all this great information!

Congratulations Amanda and Frank
I am a member of skill share also and love it! I use it for painting and playing guitar. Congratulations on your drone
I thought about it, but was afraid I might poison myself or start having hallucinations! PLEASE teach us!
😂
This was a great video, thank you for sharing. I’d love to learn , going to get the books!!
Glad you are feeling better. Dog slobber and morels. Yum?
I'm so excited to see the drone scenes!! Yay!!
Morel mushrooms in the spring, great. In Illinois in the fall morel look-a-like, please do not eat or even cook. The fumes can make you very uncomfortable. Eating just a bite and one half bite made me very sick. My husband found them, cooked them, got an upset stomach, insisted I should enjoy them even if he felt horrid. I tried and was vomiting most of the night.
That is great about getting a drone! I plan to get one too. Thanks for the Info on skill share. 👍 Take care.
Oh my gosh you have a drone you should be able to get some awesome shots on your travels. The next statement is me being very facetious. Just remember don’t drone on and on and on and on lol congratulations on the purchase
😝
I love morel mushrooms! You got some good ones there! I would love to go foraging with you! Little grey Wisconsin morels are amazing.
I really appreciate this video...very detailed and mindful of the environment and animals. Also, great “all around” tips for newbies, and the role of AI/social media! Thanks for this! Stay safe you two!
Oh it is so good to see you out and about !
I love morels, been a long time since i had some.
I wish I liked mushrooms lol. When I am out I still cant help but look for them 😆 . I just photograph them and leave em for the next person or animals.
Your just an awesome person Amanda
Thanks for the info Amanda great topic 👍👍⭐⭐🚐⭐⭐👍👍
Great info Amanda. I bought a book on Australian wild foods to learn about what we have here. I also follow some FB pages to see what’s around.
I live in Michigan & have never seen morels for sale. It's 'find your own.'
Wonderful!!
Nice to se you again. I hope you feel well. Take good care of you.
