    With Google giving all of its trust over to "real" businesses (and Reddit) it makes sense to become a real business ourselves, right? Well, I happen to have some interest in, the resources for, and someone to educated me about... Etsy.
    So in this video we're taking our first steps into the world of eCommerce, sort of. In all honesty, I've been working with another business on eCommerce for several months, but we'll talk a little about that too.
    Huge thanks to Kara from P24 who showed me the light regarding Pinterest and created our Pinterest course for P24 a few months ago. I'm excited about the next chapter where we'll be learning the ins and outs of Etsy!

      Hey Ricky, is there any reason why you chose Etsy over Shopify? Good move on going Ecom, everybody says they didn't get hit. I do have a lot of questions (sorry) so hopefully you can address these in upcoming videos?
      Do you think the days of sites being able to generate ad revenue only are gone? Is this still viable?
      How do you mitigate competition in the Ecom space, when it's fairly easy to reverse engineer where they are sourcing it from? I just do a reverse image search on Google, and then I find it on places like Alibaba and figure out their profit margins and if its viable. Usually with physical products its a race to the bottom with everybody cutting each other on the price. Maybe one way to mitigate this would be to doctor up the photo with photoshop or Canva so if a reverse image search is performed by a competitor, it wont be as easy to find?
      Looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Also your site terraintreaders ranks for some good KWs, like best atv and all the modifiers. Can you or did you do a vid on this site regarding traffic, monthly income, etc? Thx

    This is interesting but I do think it's very naive to say Esty sellers don't have website/brand building/content expertise. E-commerce is a hard gig and people who are successful at it are usually brilliant at brand, content, product and service. I'd actually say it's the other way round and successful Etsy sellers have far more skills than bloggers, so bloggers will have to level up to see success in the E-com world. That's not an attack on you guys, but I started blogging because it's sooo much easier to make money in than selling physical products.

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin 3 месяца назад +5

      Although I'd like to agree, I think that the vast majority of Etsy sellers don't ahve their own websites and they really don't know as much as they should about ecommerce in general. I harass people about starting their own websites all the time but most people don't do it until it's too late and Etsy has done something that ruins their sales.

    • @Jd7172g
      @Jd7172g 3 месяца назад +2

      @@KaraBuntin Yah but those people don't make any money, so being better than them isn't the aim. You need to be at least as good as decent Etsy sellers, those making at least $10k profit per year, which generally means you'll probably need sales of at least $40k per year. Otherwise you might as well get a weekend job or something. And people selling $40k+ a year on Etsy will be far more knowledgeable than a novice blogger. I'm not saying you can't do it, but the assumption in the video that bloggers will automatically have better skills than Etsy sellers is probably wrong in most cases.

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin 3 месяца назад

      @@Jd7172g I'd argue that with you too...I have plenty of people in my groups who do fulltime income on Etsy but who have no interest in having their own websites. I do agree that being a blogger doesn't guarantee success on Etsy, but if you have SEO experience it helps. Most people who sell on Etsy earn way less than $10K a year gross, not even net, and there's so much variation in skill level in different areas it's hard to make generalizations, which I think we're agreeing on.

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin 3 месяца назад

      @@Jd7172g I think youtube ate my response so I'm sorry if this gets posted twice. I know plenty of Etsy sellers who make a fulltime income without having their own websites, and who are intimidated by the thought of doing that. There's a wide skill level on Etsy but the vast majority of people aren't that knowledgeable about ecommerce in general, sad to say. The people in my groups tend to be more serious about it, but a lot of people aren't but they can still make money. I agree about getting a weekend job, though, that sounds appealing many days...

    Lately, in a follow up to what I said earlier, I've seen any number of "horror" stories about Etsy. This isn't the same Etsy that my wife used many years ago to sell her handmade products. It seems to have, much like Amazon, gotten the big head and doesn't respond to sellers and has lately been treating them disrespectfully and favoring people who resell other manufacturers goods and not their own. Naturally, as in every niche, this isn't the case for everyone, but it definitely raises cause for concern if not outright caution.

    This reminds me of a video I watched a long time ago, before I got into blogging... I was looking into dropshipping, and came across the only sensible dropshipping approach I've heard of, involving local companies that sell products, requiring a proper business license registration (US only), running Google ads to drive traffic, to then sell someone else's product through one's website.
    Essentially being an intermediary, or reseller, in charge of driving traffic and achieving the conversion. No different from having a brick and mortar store, except done entirely online and the companies themselves handle the shipping. Not sure how well it'd work in this day and age, as the internet becomes ever more competitive, but I am certain some people are still making it work, somehow, and there is still an angle to be found.
    Barely 30 years ago the internet was new, the wild west, in a sense.
    It stands to reason that making money online will not become easier.
