- In today's video, I finally unveil my global racial map that I have been working on for the past couple weeks. There are very few current racial maps of the world, so this is definitely a first in that regard, and I am proud to show my progress to all 100,000 (almost) subscribers of mine.

Liam They're two different races though and not similar at all. Thracians are ancestors of Nordics, Celtics, and the Swedish for example. And the Caucasians by the Caspian Sea are more likely to be Slavic.

Those few hundred researchers are either a pretty mixed group, so no majority, he has Grey tints but that's for 'mixed race' people, no literally a mix of people, either that.

I'm from the South of Brazil and my DNA results were 60% Iberian, 19% North European, 7.7% North African, 7% Italian, 3.5% Andino, 1.7% Middle Easterner and 1.1% nigerian.
I have no living relatives born abroad.

I was trained as an anthropologist and I can tell you that I trully appreciate all the hours upon hours of work you put into this! I will also use this in my classes to teach the concept of 'race.' Bravo!
The important thing to teach people is that just because there are phenotypic differences (races), doesn't mean that one race is superior to an other race.
The problem with racist people is that when they see someone who is different then them they think that having differences means that one has to be better than the other, and no racist would think himself inferior to the other, in other words the other has to be the subhuman. And when scientists started using the word race to group people, the racists saw their beliefs in their own superiority supported by science. That's why many people nowaday like to claim that there are no such thing as races and that it is just a social construct, as if that would make racists stop being racist. The meaning of the word racist also has been changed quite dramatically. Nowadays racism has been expanded to also include xenophobia and phobias of anything different. Even though it would be better if people just used the proper words, instead of intermingling everyhing.

As an italian I feel strange that the whole Italy is colored in the same way, while southern regions should be colored with the same shade of Greece, cause we share the same ancestry (we also say about greeks "same face, same race").

I'm so glad you sperated whites, castizos, mestizos and ameridians. It makes Mexico a lot easier to understand. @@tonydai782 linguistically in 2020 perhaps but in the old days wallonia was half Dutch. Especially in the North. Also partially German (luxembourgish). But its ethnicity is Diets which is an untranslatable word for the Dutch ethnicity which doesn't merely count the politically bordered folks.
By blood, we are a combination of Frisians, saxonoons and Franks. Due to ethnogenesis we became Diets.

Scientifically speaking you can argue that there are no races or you can argue that there are over 8 billion. But any number in between flies in the face of biology and genetics.
To be fair, when people say "race is a social construct" they usually mean the prejudices and stereotypes related to them, not literal race. Similarly, someone can say "money is a social construct", they don't mean money doesn't exist.

To the people criticizing, making this type of map requires so many decisions and compromises, you can't please every single person's sociological/anthropological definitions and biases. Anyone who is really interested in geography/anthropology and has tried looking up ethnolinguistic/race maps like this will know that this is a spectacularly well made map. This probably the best global map of this type ever made

The reason he says so is because many Hispanics used to speak only English and didn't know much about their origins. They "Americanized" 100%
When you look at them, you can tell who is mestizo and who looks almost 100% Iberian.
Also, many intermarried with local white people who mostly have German/Irish/English DNA. Their offsprings become even more "white".
In Mexico you have done a great work, showing clearly the notorious presence of indigenous people mainly in the states of Oaxaca, Chiapas, the Yucatan Península, and the mountains of the Huasteca Region in Veracruz, San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas, and also the Tarahumara region in Chihuahua´s Barrancas. Although of course the most common color in Mexico is grey, as most of the population is mestiza, you also showed how in the north borders there is a much bigger presence of european ascendence people. My only observations is that this region I think is bigger than it appears in the map, covering big parts of the states of Sonora, Baja California, Sinaloa, Baja California Sur, Coahuila and Chihuahua, where a big percentage (About 50 or 60% of the population) is white european. Also it would have been lovely to see little blue spots in Chihuahua for all the Menonita people (That together are around 100 000 people that is completely part of the germanic race and even speak Plautdietsch) and a big blue spot in Puebla for the Chipileño town, where people is completely italian and speak Véneto language.

there is only a loose language connecton between us(the finnish) and the russian ugro-fins to my knowlege. It would be like grouping all the indoeuropean languages in the same colour.
+heikki tiitola Hungarian is also barely intelligible to the Finnish as well and yet they're still classified as Finno-Ugric people. It would've made more sense if the Volga Finns in Russia were also classified as Finno-Ugric rather than the Turkic section.

It just looks like a language family map to me. It doesn"t make any sense and neither deliver any information on "race" or whatever. French speaker from Belgium are genetically almost the same as the flemish Belgian speaker, but you lump them with Sicilian just because they both speak a Latin language related? Kinda useless.
I believe the racial part is in the overall colours.
Remember, this map is racial AND linguistic.
Since they’re all blue, the genetic link is represented.
Also, keep in mind most of the information on this came from many overall maps, and as such, minor errors like that happen.
Besides, linguistic differences have a tendency to also have a bit of genetic interference, so that doesn’t change a lot.

I'm confused with your map - as far as it is supposed to show a "racial" content. For Europe you are basically showing linguistic classifications and language families. Though "racial" would imply a more genetic approach for me. First of all Europeans show a wild mixture of genetic traces which are not necessarily congruent with language spoken in these regions today. There have been a lot of studies regarding genetics in recent years. For example they found a big portion of Celtic traces in southern Germans or French people - although these folks don't speak a Celtic language today. If that would be a map of languages and ethic groups I would have less of a problem with it, but calling it a "racial map" is highly controversial.
Henning Bartels Celts went to Spain as well. They mixed with the Iberians and were called "Celtiberians".
Ale Word, here , especially in South Germany Celts are rather an older Layer with other groups coming in later and mixing with this existing population.
Henning Bartels I see! Here they settled down in all the west part of Spain and in Portugal. But later they mixed with the Iberians of the other side, except Galicians (they are right above Portugal, in the northwest of Spain), they didn't mix.
As a result nowadays Galicia's culture have a lot of Celtic influence! Look for "Galician culture" on Google images if you want.

It appears you have relied too much on linguistic groupings as indicative of ethnic groupings. If you explore the recent dna evidence more, you will see that, at least in Europe, language bears only a loose relation to ethnicity. For instance, although English is a Germanic language, it is the language of England only because the Anglo-Saxons got control. In fact, a very significant portion of the average Englishman's dna is pre-Anglo Saxon. If you think about it, the average Englishman looks different than the average North German (homeland of Anglo-Saxons). This pattern repeats all over the Europe and, I suspect, all over the world.

@Radek OM English vary. You may be English and proud of Celtic ancestry and that's great. I'm ancestrally English and put a bigger focus on the Germanic but to each his own. I've been told by some I look English others said I look German. To be fair, I'm not all English, I'm American with some other stuff. 55% from the British Isles (majority of that is English), and 45% from Scandinavia and Germany. So I might not be as good of an example but I have been told on multiple occasions I look English.

Thank you for making five different distinctions for the Amerindian ones, they are usually just considered to be a single one, as if african or european people were all the same. Although in reality it is a lot more diverse than that. In North America and Central there are about 34 different active ethno-linguistic groups and in South America there are another 35. This without including another 35 isolated ethno-linguistic groups that haven´t been prove to be related with anyone else, in a similar case as the Basque in Europe. I know it would be impossible to make such a huge amount of categories, so I guess a good solution would be making something similar from what was done with Africa, which was classified in 14 different groups: in this case, divide it in about 21 big groups, that would be a lot more precise. I consider this ones should be:

Argentina is similar too, we are an immigrant nation, and regarding italy, no brother, Argentina has the biggest italian comunity outside italy, in fact, more than half of the argentinian population is italian descendant, just searching on google is enough to see that info, and you can see that in our culture, we have a lot of italian in it.

Wrong, the Average Mediterranean is pale, unless actively going to the beach, and getting a tan doesnt change your race.
Sure there are some naturally darker people but usually those people have a non-european parent or grandparent.

One thing that I remember from my Anthropology courses (majored in Geography, minored in Anthropology) is that a better terminology to use than "race" is "populations", which has less socio-historical connotations. The four main human populations being Europeans, Africans, Asians, and Indigenous Australians overall, then subdividing and subdividing from there. I also remember that in modern Anthropology, the terms "primitive" and "advanced" are politically incorrect. The correct terms to use for a society is "simplistic" to "complex" based on the level of their lifestyles. I've sent you several ideas for videos over email, but I want to give a few more that dawned on me here:
1. What if the Earth were inverted geographically (aka. where there is land there water, and vice versa). How would the Earth system work geologically in that regard? (It would be a stretch to include humans, but it'd be interesting if you tried)
2. Get into the cultural history of New Caledonia in more depth. Also, the same thing would be good for Norfolk Island and Pitcairn Island.
3. Investigate the Haida homeland of Haida Gwii in the Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada.
4. History of the Neutral Moresnet (almost Amekijo), the which would have been the world's first Esperanto speaking country. Include the importance that Esperanto still plays in Kelmis, Belgium as a result of this, accordingly.
5. Get more in depth about the Maori of New Zealand.
6. Get more in depth about the Chamorros of Guam.
7. Genetics of Sardinia, Corsica, and the Balearic Islands.

I'm not sure why you decided that most of North Africa was "Semitic" based on language alone. Morocco and Algeria especially have only been Arabized in the last century. At the beginning of the 20th century, both countries/regions had a majority of Berber speakers, and it's the French colonization and the domination of pan-Arabists in government post-colonization, among many other factors, that succeeded in reducing the percentage of native speakers of Amazigh/Berber languages in Morocco to less than 30% (according to official statistics), and in Algeria to around 20%.
Genetic origin should by far trump language, otherwise why didn't you consider Brazil to be "Portuguese" or the rest of Latin America as "Spanish"??? They should both be colored in blue in this case!

Qwetery I always thought that ethnically India is India (with just an absurd caste divide that the Indians made) Bengals are Indians with a mix of South East Asia and Pakistanis are just Indians with a mix of Arabic/Turkic.
