Me too,I was born in Kingston and don't know kingston, all I know in Kingston is the Pegasus hotel and Rosemary lane and thats it,when I had to go to immigration a few times, the lines were so long,I couldn't do the lines,so I gave the security guard on thousand Jamaican to help me and my paper work and he took me right to the immigration officer
At the time I didn't realize I was briding a government official so please don't do what I did
I can look at someone and tell they are struggling really bad and it compels me to help them and I saw that on the security guard that he was struggling and if I help him he would help me and I gave him more each time I came back
But years later I realize I had done something illegal

The prices back then I assume where affected by the heavy rains and as the young lady said, much was imported. Other than the yam and lemon don't see no fruit or potato.
BTW, don't buy so much lettuce if you not planning to eating it all within 10 days and things like yam (peel); onion, sweet pepper (wash and cut into large diced pieces), if you not going to eat it all within a week, and can be frozen; garlic can be peeled and stored in glass jar with oil
Since I cook only for me, in the past a lot of things would spoil as i never cooked everyday, along the way I found ways to help preserve some food items

I stay in JA a couple months throughout the year. I just returned from a three month stay. Prices in December was so crazy. As Americans we are like wow $5000JMD/$35USD gets you all of that. We must understand that there are a lot of people who are still not working due to Covid. I personally know people who received only $4000 for the entire month since the start of this pandemic.
With that said, realistically veg(seasonings) tend to be cheap in JA especially if you are buying directly from the farmer. However, when it comes to purchasing things like cooking oil the prices are ridiculous. Household items tend to be super high as well because they are mostly imported.
Great job Rochielin! I love going to the market in Falmouth and just stopping at various farms in top Trelawney. There is also a lady who sells veg in the parking lot of L&M meats in Salem along the main road just outside Royal Decameron who has really great prices.

Trust me, Latocha, buying produce at 'Curry' is a guarantee that you are getting fresh stuff at low prices. Buying the same produce in a supermarket is a guarantee that they may have been sitting on the shelves for days and the price is high. I would NEVER be seen buying farm produce in a supermarket, the market IS the place to be. Furthermore, it's always refreshing to interact with the farmers and vendors there. You learn a lot from them.

I STILL did not have anywhere near as much produce/food as you bought. I got a 1/4 pound of chop meat, one small box of lettuce, one cucumber, 2 small cups of yogurt, one pack of wraps, 1/4 pound of lunch meat, a jar of mayo, a pack of seasoning and two piece of garlic. That's IT. $35 finished, even WITH the discount card. I miss Jamaica so much man!
