Hello Fellow Amphaulics, Friends, And Supporters Of The World Famous BBI AMPS: Thank you Luke for this amp repair video. When we first spoke Luke you said that any amp build over 8 plls has an inherent instability. Yes this amp runs BALLS OUT but this amp was built for R & D. Way to go Luke & yes this a masterpiece in its own right. As I have stated many times NOBODY WORKS / BUILDS LIKE YOU. God Bless & my best to the family, TMP, Unit 22 from N.J. .
Hello Thomas I hope your good. Have you got any equipment from Bbi yet. I've missed some things so I have no idea if you got anything anyway brother God bless you
@@JamesBronson-hy3rb Hello James hope you & the family are doing great. From what I understand all of the boxes have been custom powder coated per my instructions. BBI now must make a lot of new transformers, but he was in a serious car accident 2 weeks ago & is on the mend. Half of new shack is done but I'm still waiting on the 2 custom striker radios. I received 1 but IMHO it's a piece of shit. Hope you & your family are doing well and healthy. Take care my friend. TMP,Unit 22 from N.J.
Loved the 500 mhz rant :) after watching enough of your videos . I know the so called 2nd 3rd etc harmonics are none exsistent in any amp you touch. Great video !
One would think, with the methodology upon how you do all your wire routing and component arrangements, etc, one would think, you came from the aviation industry, more over, the wiring harness manufacturering side of the aviation industry. It is just beautifully laid out, totally encompassing symetrics, balance, "even steven perfection".... I can tell, allot of thinking goes into your designs, to keep things small, compact, layered and or partitioned to control crossover induction RF's, where needed and not wanted, even before you poke a single via in some phenolic copper cladded boards .. you have my respect, you have likely forgetten more then I will ever even learn...
nice repair of both amps. I set my spectrum Spain in different ways as going threw testing measuring adjusting. when doing band pass filters I zoom right in so I can see cut offs . I can even sweep them . that just 1 part to check the filters. the wide Spain is just to see the harmonics that may come out. I learned over time not one setting on spectrum can do all . just takes time to make new settings for spectrum. to me it's worth the extra work. with that 16 pill bias box looks like a heat problem. the lid came off a pill. bias box makes more heat. I would not bother with a box that small. heatsink wise not watts. would be worth it to make heatsink the size of the board . and run that box at less drive to keep heat down. with bigger heat sink i would also use a heat spreader plate to help cool the pills down. look at Texas Star 16 pill. lots of heat sink . that a bias box 16 pill. best way for SSB box is PTT line. no RF sensor in box. 73's
Hey Mr. BBI, I just wanted to say before I talk in my dave made 2x8 I check everything I rarely use it and never key the mic more than 15-20 seconds and I have a thermometer in my left hand. My box never gets more than 80 degrees I run it with a 955 Stryker that dead key is set to 1 watt but I drop it down to a quarter watt and it works great and I also run it with a 98vhp that is a 4 pill but of course only use it by itself but I set it to a half a watt and it puts out about 30 watts or so and it runs 2x8 great. I'm old and no one to talk about radios with so I'm sorry to ramble on. I watch and learn from you quite a bit. I appreciate you taking time to explain all this and you are a very bright and intelligent electronic wizard 🪄 thanks for sharing as most others are just a tech compared to you and act like it's a guarded secret to explain anything about a CB or amp. I'm just a 71 year old retired trucker of 50 years live by myself here in VA. Take care friend.
I had a double stack sweet 16 that a buddy of mine built made out of two sweet 16s and I got about 3500 out of it all the time I drove it with a Kenwood ts-570 and I had all the extra alternator and for extra batteries add two supercapacitors work beautiful and all I ran was 27,475 sideband
I have a side question for this oddity unit, as per thr heat on the 2 or 5 watt resistors.. have you ever seen the guys who build the PC's and they submerged the whole computer in mineral spirits, for the cooling aspect... Could such a process ever be done on antenna amplifiers, and the non-conductive mineral spirit cooling fluid, not have any hinderance of the signal inside of the case? Anybody may answer this strange question.. thank you.
My problem is I watch my meters too much and I'm always afraid I'll hurt one of my amps. But like to get a CB amp for my truck so I can run two radios.
Sorry! But that is "NOT" the only way to Go! that is what you like to use, the Anderson connector has been working for me for 24 years, come on my friend Stop! saying that the stuff you use is the only way to go PLEASE! I am tired of people asking me why do you do that. I know you have tested them but everybody can't afford them you know as well as I do that they cost way more that Anderson Connectors. Nothing like sitting in front of a 30-30 cartridge charge to get a burn, IMR 3031 and sodium Azide in air bags, older bags

Stupid question and off topic .How much sag should you leave on a dipole wire antenna or should it be kept tight .summer sag and winter shrink .. ???
