This is bittersweet. Arnie and Kelly were my favorites on Ice Pilots NWT. Now I just learned that both are gone, so sad to know they are no longer with us. They both were such great human beings. May their memory be eternal.

I spent part of my childhood growing up in Brooklyn NY between 2 major airports (KJFK (formerly Idlewild / New York Airport) and KLGA (LaGuardia)). Back in the late 1950s and early 1960s I saw (and heard) many old piston airliners rumbling overhead. A lot of Lockheed Constellations, DC6's DC4's, DC3's, Stratocruisers, etc.I also remember one dismal, overcast, snowy day in December hearing the thunderous BOOM of a DC8 jet airliner as it crashed into the streets of Park Slope Brooklyn after colliding in midair with a LaGuardia bound Constellation. It was a tragic day. During the mid 1960s I saw fewer and fewer vintage propliners as most of the airlines transitioned to jet airliners. These days a vintage propliner is a rare sight around these parts, unless there is an airshow taking place nearby.
Arnie's 37000 hours is pretty well untouchable nowadays. The last group of pilots doing 30000 plus something hours were the DC-8, 747, 707,L1011 captains back in the seventies and retired in early eighties
@ The Gospel Quartet Paradise they don't fly dc 10's or any full-on jet planes, they do fly turboprops though, I know a lot about buffalo, I've watched the entire show multiple times and I've met Mikey Mcbryan at an airshow
i love bloopers,. around 26:30 arnie calls for "lets go green" or something, when in fact, the footage before that already shows the landing gear down.
Nice views of that bird flying around. The coolest is the view with the blue flame shooting out of the manifold. I wonder if the old man does that on purpose. It's a cozy feeling to watch this show from Texas where it's been 90 and sunny for the past 4 months.
Totally agree with Jeremy here. If anything she should have to work harder to prove herself. I've been in law enforcement for 36 years and trust me, it was anything but easy. Once they realized I was not going to ask for or expect anything I didn't earn then I was treated exactly as I should be, but this really disappointed me. I'm not saying this was right but I wasn't going to change my ways for anyone and I didn't have to.
I first discovered Buffalo Airways in a rather unusual unorthodox way. I am an avid flight simulator pilot and one day I flew a Lockheed Constellation into Canada and I landed at Yellowknife. As I taxied onto the ramp there it was. The Buffalo Airways terminal in all it's glory. . The people who created the scenery included the Buffalo terminal. When I saw it I wondered if such an airline actually exists. So I did a google search and low and behold, I learned that it is actually a real airline that operates up in Canada's far north. From there I discovered the "Ice Pilots" series.
I would be happy being ground crew. That would be my dream retirement providing I don’t break any bones sliding off a wing. Those aircraft are miracles to thank engineers and Yahweh for.
@@joshuastavos4376 WHAAAAAAAAT...? You got to be shi@ting me! Engineers AND Yahway? Huh? What's a Yahway? Huh? What? You should hire on here as a rampy, that would bring you back to reality!
@Joshua Stavos hopefully she does great things where she went next. It was as a flight attendant at a major airline, but who knows where she went from there
Just found this series. Totally impressed with the guts and skill of these folks! However do they fight the metal fatigue that must affect these antique planes? Especially with the extreme temps and the constant work?
This was the blueprint of American aviation all the way up to and including the 1990's and early 2000's, BELIEVE IT! In 1988 I started as an A&P mechanic, with experience, for a US Airline flying B-737's and B-727's, and was paid $13/he, and pay your own taxes, 1099'd!!!!
You don't put that pipe like that on top of the forks!! You strap the pipe underneath the forks, then lift it hanging.then in angle you set it inside the aircraft.then slowly slide it in..after that secure it to the floor.
I wonder where they get spare parts for maintenance & repair of a 1940s vintage aircraft. Are they custom made on special order, maybe? It's a bit like driving a Model T, isn't it?
Buffalo Joe Mcbryan has the world's largest collection of DC3'S and enough parts to keep them flying till the 100th birthday of the Douglas DC3 . This man was visionary 40 years ago and bought every part and piece he could get his hands on . The entire world now comes to Joe looking for parts .
I swear baffallo needs more modern aircraft I mean yah having a unique fleet of antique aircraft is cool, but having to have 5 loads instead of just one is not very good. i appreciate the retro fleet tho cool to see DC-3s and DC4s flying still!
The problem then is weight on ice runways and the fact that the airports up there are small so have small runways. The DC4 or Electra is about as big as you can fit. Jets need longer runways and definitely can't land on ice runways.
If she's the better pilot then that's awesome if she's not then that's sexism plain and simple. The person that has the best quals for the job should get it, PERIOD! It should never be based on anything else!

I am a Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor. I would never put up with the abuse of having to be a rampee. That is BS and a total lack of respect of one's person.
What? A flight mechanic without much field experience is not too abnormal but having the right spares loaded up with the wrong jack, o or at least the wrong or NO dunnage to use with the jack to be able to change the tailwheel, that's everyone's fault, all the way to the D.O.M.
