    Sprinted out to ramp, indicated to Pilot to Shut down !

    Makes for good television, but I see why Buffalo had their operation certificate over the winter of 2015-2016 revoked. Their operation is a textbook example of everything you don't want to do to avoid the chance of an accident. Overstressed flight crew, a pressure to complete the mission at any cost, a hostile working environment and resulting low pilot morale, using 75 year old planes in constant service while using spare parts from junkyards... As much as I'm looking for a pilot job, I wouldn't accept an offer to come work for Buffalo.

    • @WitchidWitchid
      @WitchidWitchid Год назад +1

      The only reason I would accept an offer to work for them is so that I can live up there. Jobs are not too prevalent up there. But then I am not a pilot so I doubt they are going to come looking for me. I'd be of no use to them. I do agree though, their methods seem pretty sketchy.

    Seems to be a catalogue of errors, not just Duane's decision to oversee the job remotely. Why didn't the engineer spend a bit more time looking into the overspeed warning? What refuelling company goes out to an Electra with just a fraction of the fuel what they needed?

    So Dwayne was tightly scheduling 60 year old planes and perhaps not top-tier crews to meet a tight deadline. Surprise, not, things break, mistakes happen; people get tired and hit their physical and legal limits. Should have been taken into account. Bringing in a second crew may have used up most of their planned profit. Too bad.

    • @WitchidWitchid
      @WitchidWitchid Год назад +1

      On one hand the fact that Dwayne set up this contract and scheduled things as he did could also be a sign that he had great confidence in both the ability of the crews and the equipment to get the job done as planned. His dissapointment arose when he finally had to face the reality that everything is not going to work out exactly as he had planned and perhaps he raised the bar for performance higher than was possible under the circumstances. After all as you point out, planes break and need repair and even the best mechanic needs time, tools and parts on hand to diagnose and fix it. Even the best flight crews become tired and need rest and a break now and then so they can recharge. An overworked and tired and pressured crew are more apt to overlook or miss problems, make mistakes, etc. and in this profession 1 mistake can bring everything down completely.

      One word, money. It is much cheaper to pay a flat fee to a private company than to pay your own pilots/crew, operating costs, etc. This is the reason why big airlines like Delta and United contract out less profitable routes to smaller airlines.
      Moreover, the Canadian Air Forces doesn't have a lot of C-130s to spare. Many are tasked with overseas cargo duties, midair refueling, and search and rescue. Canadian Forces have too few planes and are stretched too thin.

    This episode more than any other Buffalo episode I have seen, typifies the difference between a "Competitive & Confrontational" business style and system. Versus a "Cooperative & Complimentary" work environment & ethic. Buffalo Joe clearly prefers the former not the latter and his Company exudes just that, as does his behaviour. If Duane is responsible because he was/is the General Manager/ Manager. Then Joe Bryan is ultimately the/at fault here. But Duane is held responsible as being in charge. Then so should the Manager of the refuel stop airport on the shores of Hudsons Bay. The Buffalo Pilot was also ultimately responsible for all that went wrong in Nova Scotia. He is the Captain of the ship!!! He was ultimately & technically IN CHARGE and therefore responsible. The mechanic was also responsible for not dealing with the overspeed issue and should have investigated that major issue/event because there was prior knowledge from the "warning" during the flight. That issue should have been a non event, not another delay on the "play-day" they took in Nova Scotia. The refuel "excuse" was past history by then. Get over it and get on with it!! Basically if Joe is going to delegate to Duane. Then Duane should be able to delegate further down the Chain of Command. Not withstanding the insubordination of the flight crew disregarding direct instruction from Duane of managing the work & time loading etc. The day to day, or rather, the many hour to hour problems are directly related to the scary operating style of Buffalo Airways. This company could NEVER get ISO or CORE Certified.... That is terrifying..

      I’m assuming u mean one airplane and not 2 or 3. They aren’t structured enough imo for that they shoot from the hip atleast that’s how it looks from watching literally every episode like I have. One episode you have green co-pilots estimating jobs then another episode Mikey is then another one the chief pilot is then Dwayne is. When you do things like that mistakes get made on all levels and fingers get pointed in every direction on who’s fault it is. Their should be a few “salesmen” (for lack of a better word) where each person specializes in one plane like one is the Electra one is dc-3 one is c-46 or better yet each person is responsible for the contracts of each plane so they will know what contracts they have, pilots that can fly, planes that are ready to go and what the planes are capable of as far as where they can land and with what kinda weight but also be able to quote contracts for other planes If they need to but also they would have the time to call around looking for contracts not just waiting for phone calls. It makes no sense to have all these planes sitting not getting used then a contract comes up and it takes weeks and big money to get the plane ready.

    • @djpmatchbox

      @@peanutbutterisfu the shooting from the hip is for the show to create drama. this airline has been around for years. They also don't show all their employees because each employee who is shown has to be paid by the show.

      In the case of the DC3
      Douglas built the ship to last, but nobody expected,
      The crazy heap would fly and fly no matter how they wrecked it.
      While nations fall men retire and jets get obsolete
      The gooney bird flies on and on, at 11,000 ft
      THEY PATCH HER UP WITH MASKING TAPE,
      WITH PAPER CLIPS AND STRINGS,
      AND STILL SHE FLIES, SHE NEVER DIES.
      METHUSELAH WITH WINGS.

      most of these runways are gravel. Modern planes use high bypass turbofan engines that have a low clearance in relation to the ground and bottom of the engine. These aircraft are incapable of performing takeoffs and landings on gravel runways because they can suck up gravel and destroy the engines. the most modern of planes that can accommodate a gravel kit is a 737 300 because they did not yet use high bypass engines

    This show has to be fake....no way...fuel by a. 2.5 gallon can for an hour, don't plug in the heater in the freakin' cold north, tanker truck is short of fuel and you lose 2 hours....but that costs you a full day as the crew just has to take a day off (flight crew ignores order to leave the aircraft).... Keystone Cops of aviation or faked. I vote for faked.
