You don't have to worry. This isn't their best as amazing as it is. Their creativity is amazing. There is always something to love in what they do. VoicePlay is such a rich and rewarding rabbithole. These guys have all been practicing their craft for decades, and while this song is fantastic, it's not their best. I'm not sure we've even seen their best yet; every new release manages to raise the bar lately. No matter what you choose to listen to, they will entertain, and there's always at least one moment that catches you off guard and leaves you amazed. As skilled as Pentatonix and Home Free are, I don't think either match up to VoicePlay's creativity. (Fun fact- they also do their own arrangements, video production, lighting, some camera work, and basic sound engineering. They *are* the total creative package.)

It's something, when what you said is true... this song was pretty basic for them, lol. That says a lot: when an incredible arrangement and cover isn't anything special for a group :D

The key to VoicePlay is in their name - VoicePLAY. They tend more toward theatrical than the other a cappella groups. Nearly anything you listen to by them is amazing.

You'll find that there are a lot of crossover fans between Home Free, Voice Play and Pentatonix. They are all insanely talented in their own way. Each group has a beatboxer that makes you forget that there aren't any "real instruments" being played. And that's a testament to their talent! And their vocals are so full and rich that it's hard to believe there are usually just 4 people singing plus the beatboxer. Although the beatboxers in each group can and do sing in occasion. Each group has an extensive catalog of covers and original music. And then each group has people that have their own channel where they do solo and collaboration work. Welcome to 3 very deep and diverse rabbit holes. I look forward to watching your journey.❤
The bass is Geoff (pronounced Jeff) Castellucci, and he has his own channel and some AMAZING performances there. Probably the best one to see his over all talent is his cover of the Beatles' Blackbird, but one of the most fun is his new Halloween release, Monster Mash. VoicePlay in general is excellent, hope to see you around more. Their recent release "Hoist the Colors" (from the Pirates of the Caribbean) is outstanding.
This is a fantastic cover of this song. They all did great but Elle blew it out of the water.

You can't go wrong with VoicePlay. This is just one of many many great videos. They do leave people speechless at times. A big part of what they do is theatricality. In many of their songs they create mimi musicals. Their latest, for Halloween, is due out shortly, Friends On The Other Side. You might also enjoy Geoff Castellucci's solo channel, (the bass here) he frequently backs himself and sings in his higher range.. He has a more or less 5 octave range and is an incredible arranger. His Monster Mash shows off his more fun side. Nice reaction. :)

They have been around and have a large catalog of music. My personal favorites are "can't help falling in love", it features Geoff the bass (as they do often). But there is not beatboxing (vocal percussions). Just voices. Also "go the distance" from Disney's Hercules. "If I were a rich man" from fiddler on the roof. "Hoist the Colors" from Pirates of the Caribbean", my personal favorite that that have done.

I loved your reaction! I know what you are saying... worrying that the next voiceplay video won't be fun, or good... And I can say that some of their stuff from many, many years ago isn't as good as what they are doing now. However, almost anything they do is good... and some of it is blow you out of the water good. Their new cover of the music from the video game 'Halo' is their most recent, and is jaw dropping good... please watch it all the way through the commentary. They did Queen in five minutes, and if you are going to cover Queen... well, you had better be on top of your game (they are!), other fun songs that will surprise you with what you can do with your voice is Geoff's covers of 'Blackbird' 'Sixteen Tons' and 'Misty Mountains Cold'... if you love seeing an amazing Bass singer, his work is as good as anyone in the world. From Voiceplay, I like 'If I were a Rich Man/Girl', 'Bang' 'We're Good', and of course their more dramatic things 'My Mother Told Me' and especially 'Hoist The Colors High'. Finally, they did some Disney covers 'Moana Medley' and 'Little Mermaid' that are among the best things on the internet. I REALLY am looking forward to your reactions, you two have great chemistry and a real talent for reacting. Good job!

I’m so glad you started on your VoicePlay journey. They are one of my favorite “bands.” 😁 A lot of people start with the Oogie boogie song from Nightmare before Christmas. Appropriate for the season. I really like Tennessee whiskey, Daddy Sang Bass, and warriors. If you like Billy Irish they have three videos that tell a story using Billy Irish songs and then panic at the disco one and two. Lots of people like their Disney medleys And queen in five minutes.

I loved that you had just said you don’t really like a cappella and 30 seconds in they had you hooked. If you ever played Halo as a kid they did a cover of that which is incredible. They also did a cover of a song from Nightmare Before Christmas called Oogie Boogie which showcases Jeff (the base singer).

I love to this day how they dropped in the guitar line through Geoff that makes this song this song.
I was the same before I watched any acapellas videos. I disliked the idea of using just voices to make a cover of a song but then Pentatonix blew my mind and changed my perspective.
A few years forward, Home Free got recommended then VoicePlay. And now I am enjoying the three of them, joined their memberships and yeah. Watching people's reaction of them reminds me when I first watched them 😂
Must say, it was really exciting watching them, this definitely a kind of song you could listen to anytime, so warm and amazing… it totally changed Ivory’s perspective of a Capella.💯👌👍🏽

Oh, speaking of old video games, they recently dropped one doing the theme from Halo. Also, be prepared, these guys sometimes put on costumes and play out the story as well-nothing really kitschy, but just setting a mood. Hoist the Colours, from Pirates of the Caribbean, is one of those and well, WELL worth checking out. There’s a LOT there for you to hear, so enjoy!
I thought you might like this one and so glad you gave them a try! This is one of my favorites by them but you'll eventually find some that you may not like the song itself (with any of the groups) but you can still appreciate the artistry. And you're right, most people think Barbershop Quartet when they hear A Capella. PTX, HF, and VP just take it to another level. And while HF is my fav, VP is a close second.
The Three band are so amazing, love the song we listened to so far, hard to decided which is our favourite band. 😄

This is a great song to convert someone. I love the crescendo at the end.
Layne, the beatboxer, and Geoff (Jeff) the bass do most of the arranging. Eli (pronounced L.E.) also steps in from to time. Layne and Eli do most of the lighting cues. Layne does most of the post production. The amazing thing is that, unlike PTX and HF (who are also stellar) they do not have a recording contract so do it all thenselves.
Hi Janet. Thanks for the sub. We released "Ring of Fire" reaction few days ago (if you haven't seen it). It actually sounds amazing that VoicePlay does their recording and distribution themselves! Best way to go I think at the moment :) We were recently advised about few of the Halloween themed songs from VP, but we already recorded few Halloween Specials beforehand (however not sure if all of them see the light of day due to few being blocked). Don't worry about this being their best. Its fantastic, don't get me wrong, but they have dozens of songs on this level and many that are a step up. Hoist the Colours is my personal favorite. Welcome to VoicePlay!!! Honestly I have not found anything of theirs that I didn't like. True some are different than others but each perfection in their own right. Being October you should check out VP's Halloween covers. There are so many but the best IMO is the Oogie Boogie Song. They also just put out the Halo, video game, theme, and I've Got Friends On the Other Side, My Mother Told Me, and Hoist the Colours. Some of their older videos to recommend are Queen in 5 Minutes, Little Mermaid Medley, and Moana Medley.
The bass, Geoff Castellucci, has his own channel and just put out his version of the Monster Mash but you should see his cover of the Beatles song Blackbird.
Voiceplay really wowed us, we thought we had seen it all from the other bands but listening to them sing and perform, we were completely shocked. Have been listening to this song over and over.
