Gen Dornying is a brilliant teacher and this is exactly what I've been looking for. The solution to my problem is to take the spotlight off myself and my issues and have loving kindness for others.

I’m really happy for that Alicia. A useful question I came across recently was “What is worth loving?” And following up on that with “How do I best orient myself towards that which is worth loving?”. I appreciate the comment and you watching the episode. Big love ❤️

With the flooring issue, it seems the woman is correlating the flooring to something that brings her anxiety. What is that flooring bringing up for her, i feel is the question

I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but I have a genuine doubt. The notion of living for yourself is more prevalent in current western societies with individual rights narrative etc. On the other hand in eastern countries there is more of an emphasis on community and living for others (although it is fast changing now)...I don't find happiness in both of these scenarios.
In eastern countries, the selfless idea is sort of forced on you and especially on women which has fostered a feudal kind of society.
On the other hand constantly being consumed by what 'I' need is never going to be the answer either.
How to find a balance? Does buddhism talk about that?

Great question! The more I ponder this since our chat the more I wonder the same thing. We need to be able to stand on our own too feet in order to take care of others. There is certainly a deep truth to what was shared with me in this video and that’s the notion of an other focused mind and realising the nature of unity and ourselves within the other & vice versa.
Great comment I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.
      Much appreciation,
      Michael

You're absolutely right, there definitely has to be a balance. I am a Buddhist, and still learning every day, but i have come to learn that we absolutely have to care for ourselves, whilst at the same time caring for others. There has to be a balance of both. The problem is when we go to one of the extremes... caring for our self and neglecting others, or neglecting our self due to caring for others. Some people have more "self" needs meaning they cant care as much for others simply through a lack of capacity, and others have less "self" needs meaning they have a larger capacity to care for others. Its up to us to understand where we are on that scale as its different for us all, and it also changes all the time. We just have to be kind to ourselves and to others as much as we can ♥
