    Great video. My case of usage is that for now I don’t own a PS5, I used to but sold it because I already have a Series X to play with but now I found myself leaning more towards PS exclusive but could not afford a PlayStation again for now. So I took a PS Portal and playing through PS Cloud (needs PS Plus for this). Everything is really great for now and what I like the most is that my consoles are in our bedroom but I don’t want to go there while my kids are still up in the evening and being cut from our family life so I take it in the living room and play there. I also have a Rog Ally to do the same with my Xbox trough remote play.

      Definitely a great way to play ps5 games without a ps5! I’m glad the update included that because before it, I personally don’t think it was worth it just for remote play at that price but now it’s an incredible value

    Got my portal on black friday. I have wife and one kid, I agree that I wont share the same room, play on portal and disconnect from my family, but at night, bed time before sleeping is when Im using it the most. Wife browsing her cell, son watching cartoons on tv and I can finally play on portal. The latency is very low and the image quality does not drop. I think what portal lacks is local network mode, could improve even more the latency, the streaming quality and would spare Sony servers

    • @TheComicBookGamerShow
      @TheComicBookGamerShow  11 дней назад +1

      Totally agree. I think a local mode would be so helpful. I recently got a Logitech g cloud and installed pxplay to use remote play on it as well. It has a local mode that I don’t think I’ve experienced a drop in quality once. I love that you’ve found a perfect use case while staying connected with the fam!

    I have a dedicated TV with my PS5. But it is in the bedroom. So when my wife wants to take a nap or sleep in I can use the portal in the living room. That was one of the reasons I got mine. I also wanted to play on my lunch break at work. But now that we can play on PS+ Premium that has doubled my play time. I play it everyday at work now without having my PS5 on.

    The portal is a great accessory for the PS5. I always wanted the option to be able to play ps5 quality games remotely and the portal provides that in an affordable way. For me the experience is better than using an iPad and controller or backbone because I don’t have a good enough phone. A new handheld would be nice but I don’t want it until it can be part of a shared ecosystem with the current console. I never liked seeing resources split across multiple consoles and handhelds because it resulted in getting some handheld games that would be much better on console and vice versa

  • @mantlecollector

    If someone was worried about not having a tv to play the ps5 with in the family room or something, u do know they make a G-Story monitor that connects to ur ps5. U take off of the of the ps5 panels and slide the monitor onto the ps5 and get to play ur games on the ps5 while people still get to watch tv

    • @TheComicBookGamerShow
      @TheComicBookGamerShow  16 дней назад

      That honestly sounds like so much more of a pain to take the panel off every time and set up earbuds or headphones every time just so I can play when others are in the same room lol plus I pointed out in the video that if other people are in the room where the ps5 is, I personally would only want to either play ps5 with everyone else or not be plugged into some other device and be disconnected from other people in the same room.

    You want a portal that downloads games and plays PS5 without internet! Dude that's a handheld PS5!! That would cost around $1000. You might as well buy a steam deck!
    It would be heavy and need super fast storage and a PS5 processor!
    You sound like you don't know what you are talking about!

    • @TheComicBookGamerShow
      @TheComicBookGamerShow  18 дней назад +4

      You’re completely missing the point. I don’t think it’s out of the question to want dedicated games on a handheld. No one said it needs to be full 1:1 comparison from Ps5 to handheld versions in performance. People wouldn’t be that upset for a ps5 handheld that would need generally less computing power than a steam deck given that’s for PC games with generally higher requirements and can be upgraded to play higher end games. There’s also the option of creating optimized handheld versions of ps5 games that play at lower resolutions, maybe capped at 30fps, etc. not ideal but not far off from the switch and basic games on steam deck that’s been a massive success. Maybe it doesn’t play ps5 games at FULL graphical and CPU/GPU Performance but then again it doesn’t have to on a much smaller screen. Few people would be genuinely upset if they could play a downloaded slightly less performing version of Elden Ring on a PlayStation handheld without the need for internet. Yes it would require a lot of work but it’s massive missed opportunity from Sony to create a first party device in this space.

    • @KJonesIsMe
      @KJonesIsMe 12 дней назад +1

      @@TheComicBookGamerShowI’m confused by this statement. Portal is capable of running at 1080p 60 frames at best through remote play. Sure Remote play still needs some optimization even after this latest 4.0.1 update which made it run much smoother in my experience. But are you saying that because Sony should come out with this theoretical handheld with storage that they should make developers release 2 versions of this game? And sell it for $70 with lower performance if it’s a AAA game? Considering that many may buy this handheld as a standalone product by itself because that a PlayStation handheld with internal storage sounds pricey as hell. After buying it many users may just skip buying the PS5 or 6 whatever….
      But my major concern with this is how will games sell in the store. Let’s just say Sony forces developers to sell games at a lower price point for their Portal users… for example instead of selling Elden Ring for $70 it will be $40 at a lower performance. What’s the incentive for developers to even work as hard to develop a AAA game for 2 versions if they’re going to make max money on one that will showcase it in a way that the developers meant it to be experienced (PS5, 6 whatever) vs the other (theoretical new handheld with storage) that they may not make as much money and forces them to do more work to have it optimized for that weaker device?
      That would be way too complicated and Sony ain’t gonna want to deal with all that semantics. I think Sony has a good problem to have here with the Portal when they update remote play a bit more. And the addition of cloud streaming seems to be very profitable seeing how these Portals are flying off the shelves lately.

  • @jcchaconjr
    @jcchaconjr 7 дней назад

    My biggest issue with the Portal? I’ve had one for a week now, and the only thing I’ve been able to get it to do is take the PS5 out of standby mode. I have yet to actually be able to connect to my PS5 with it. I’ve tried every suggestion found on the Internet, and after some back and forth with a PS Expert on the PlayStation support page, they now have me wanting to test specific channels on my router instead of the usual Auto-select…
    I would love the explanation as to why I am able to connect with Remote Play from my PC, which is connecting to the same SSID. If I can connect seamlessly using my PC with no problem, what’s preventing the Portal from doing it?

    • @TheComicBookGamerShow
      @TheComicBookGamerShow  7 дней назад

      Jeez that’s terrible, sorry you’re having to jump through hoops just to get this to work. This is why I’d personally love some option for offline play in the future or in a new model. I’m hoping the channels bit gets sorted out soon, that’s rough

    • @jcchaconjr
      @jcchaconjr 7 дней назад

      Thanks - yes, considering that I was able to snag a 30th Anniversary model, it kind of stings seeing it as nothing more than a pretty paperweight at the moment.

      @@TheComicBookGamerShow Well, after resorting to setting up WireShark on my PC to specifically monitor any traffic from the Portal on my WiFi network, I discovered/confirmed that the Portal wasn’t doing ANYTHING… In the process though, I discovered that it didn’t have a fixed IP (something so thought I had done before). So, after adding it to the reserved list on my router and flipping Airplane Mode, my WireShark packet capture detected activity, and low and behold - my Oortsl connected.
      So it’s crazy that, while everyone suggests that you give your PS5 a fixed IP, it seems that giving the Portal a fixed IP is pretty important too? Anyway, I’m just glad I didn’t throw $220 away, lol - and can FINALLY use this thing!

    Have of the video is saying the same thing, 9:03
    And regarding to internet if you’re in same room you don’t need internet only to connect then if you have so bad internet it’s really fine and quiet because it use same wifi and no internet, if you know what I mean
    You have great idea about it to be a handheld gaming device but if you want that it will be more expensive and heavier it need strong processor and storage and big battery that will make it same as ps5 in size.
    Someone hack it and got some information about the size of processor and the storage its only 6 GB and simple processor
    There is one point you missed, Portal has vibration and back bone doesn’t have that

      Many people (not everyone) have an issue with the one thing the Portal was designed to do which is to play games remotely. Because it’s solely dependent on wireless connection to do literally anything, if the internet connection isn’t literally perfect then the streaming quality will be poor and inconsistent. So I simply would like a revised Portal or new handheld that lets us play it offline as well for those instances.

Then I was looking it over and had already brought an SD card for it begat I just knew it had a slot. These are two basic things that's is no way this device doesn't have.
    The real reason Sony don't want you buying a game and playing it on two devices (which should be allowed if they are on your account). They also want to force you to buy their ear buds which I refuse. I'd but a dongle 1st for pure principle at this point.

    The latency un the bt headphones refers to the hz, if you use one that uses the same frequency as your router, it literally shuts down your wifi, and it just depends on your internet provider, so Sony wouldn't fix or suport any kind of solucion so they stick to their specific hardware.

    bro... How can you download and play content on a streaming device? Hear me out--the thing doesn't have the gpu or any other component that allows the PS5 to run its games. With the portal, the PS5 is still running the game, and with cloud-streaming, another system is running the game
    The portal doesn't have the technology to run games, let alone PS5 games. What good would it be to download a game that the portal isn't equipped to run? Do you want to be able to download games to a spoon too? You could probably make a spoon-shaped memory stick with a game downloaded onto it, after all. But why???

      Wow you sound really upset AND you completely missed my point. I was talking about an imaginary scenario that I would love to be able to download games and play offline, but obviously we can’t on this, so I’d love a next gen Portal or new handheld that allows us to do that. Now I enjoy the G Cloud much more because I’ve consistently had a very positive streaming experience whereas with the portal it’s been very inconsistent (which is why I’d like a new device that allows for offline play). That was a simple comment you took out of context about an imaginary scenario about a new different console, NOT the portal we currently have. Jeez you got really upset there. It’s ok bro, calm down.

      lol I’ve got 2 kids, you missed my point in the video that I have a ps5 in the office in a separate area that doesn’t get hogged up and that when I’m in the living room with the family I don’t need to be plugged in to another device to be zoned out from them. My whole point was that for me and others like me, this isn’t the big selling factor.
