Many purists would deny to even use that.
i never got the use of that. i had to use ear protection because of the volume, micing it sounds way worse than going direct and shit's heavy. i had tons of boutique tube amps and different 412 cabs and now i'm playing a hx stomp/nano cortex board. never looked back.
@@marianstephan4676 It is what it is. As far as inspiration goes, for me it does not compare. I like my bubble of guitar sound bouncing around 3d in the studio. I throw delays and choruses and the dry guitar cabs and it will never ever compare. It also does not compare when you have a loud band, unless you are running twin SRXs with subs you do not have a wall of sound with an hx stomp whereas with a tube amp or solid state and cab you have. Micing does not sound worse it can even sound way better for two reasons. One, you have the micing position changed in real time and second, you do not have blend shit in the IR departments. IRs are long eqs. Multi point. Nothing more nothing less. They are not dynamic and even faking impedance curves via software is not the same feeling or magnet interaction with the speaker. You need real current to have real negative feedback for your amp. But even if you say you don't need that a lot of times these multi point eqs come with power amp curves or room reverb curves eq'ed in. That is what they do. Now, micing a guitar cab always can have problems with close micing with a dynamic mic to avoid the band noise etc and getting insane low end due to proximity. You have to eq out some stuff. IRs don't have that problem but, room reverb is then played in another room and that causes a lot of times phase cancellations and empties the sound in some areas. Which is why a lot of times guitar modelling dudes live tend to get lost in the mix and overcompansate with honky mids...it is what it is. You can hear the alice in chains sound guy analyzing it in tone talk. So guitar cab micing? Needs experience and some work on the fly. Many players don't have the patience or experience to do so. Yeah modelling stuff is great for that. But is it the same or as inspiring as a guitar amp even live? For some it may be. For me it is not. Never ever. I kind of don't like it because I don't hear what I play as easily. I also don't want in ears. If these solutions work for some, more power! I'll try to carry as little as amps effects etc live and it will still be a burden vs modelling but as long as I can I will to be honest. It's about the experience and joy. If it was my money to live with I'd go live as cheap and as efficient in weight as possible. That is why every major band carries lightweight axe-fx racks vs multiple tube amps and cabs.
It is way more than convincing 😳. Because of living in an apartment It is impossible to play any sort of amp for me, so I can't be any happier. I remember when I first tried Revalver and now I look at today's technology....mind blowing....
Too me it blows a lot of the fractal units out of the water , with the exception of the axe because it’s capable of a lot of amazing sound design ! But here’s the thing , why would I want to try to do that when so many guys have dialed in the perfect sounding IR’s , how many hundreds of hrs would I need to do to achieve good sounding guitars sounds ! How many hrs would that take away from playing and making music ? So having both would be nice, it’s a monetary time dilemma !
iv noticed guitarguitar in the u.k stock solar, do you know if/when they'll stock some v's? they've only had the wolfmasters for the last year, looking for one with a neck pickup and evertune bridge, thanks man
I am using a nice Ampeg Portaflex capture with the according12" cab IR and a P-Bass with flats on it and I'm loving it. Definitely not the most versatile setup but the sound I always was longing for.
@@fuzzaldryn9626 oh man, I could not find a good sound for my P-Bass 😢 My sound is a Darkglass emulation for my Spector bass. Any chance you could share that with a fellow bassist?
Less than 1ms latency is nuts. 500 + tax and this replaces an entire basic rig: on board tuner, an overdrive, an amp, delay, tremelo, reverb, a cab IR loader... what else am I missing? I may be insane, but I think this is not only the best priced, most powerful, but also most well spec'd modeler on the market?
If you can sacrifice the delay, it can also be turned into a Chorus/Flanger, because you can set the time super low up to 6ms and set LFO Depth 🙂And it also has the capability to split the signal before the IR loader, so you can run both into a poweramp+cab and into FoH simultaneously!
Ola I thank you for doing all these reviews! Learning the ins and outs of ALLLLLLLL these different I/Os and stupid proprietary softwares must be MIND NUMBING.... Hopefully one day we can just have open source modeling? \m/
Can these things be used with bass? I think it'll work great with a bass too. Bass parts usually don't change tone in the song. I just stick with one and just change like 2-3 times throughout the whole gig.
Yes! You can make NAM models of any amps / pedals / preamps etc... just load up some nice bass amp models / IRs (plenty on Tonehunt) and then you're all good!
I was really on the fence about what rig to build for my pedal board rig. But, this convinced me, this, my effects as needed, a power amp pedal for where cabs are usable, Ola you've sold me on it. I was SO CLOSE from going nano cortex. Thoughts on this Vs nano cortex?
I am not Ola, but DIMEHEAD all the way - reason is neither Kemper Player, ToneX nor Nano Cortex can put out one signal with IR, another without. With DIMEHEAD, you can do both simultaneously. I describe how to do that on my channel in my full review of the pedal, but it's just what it is: this thing is more flexible, and sounds awesome 🙂
@@PippPriss all of the devices CAN do that. You just run the rig stereo 🤣 only IR left and right as straight out to power amp. My B rig is a line 6 pod xt live. All cabs disabled as the preamps are KILLER! And then a 150w power amp and a 412. If I can go dimehead I'll be able to get rid of the B rig

@@Ottophil To ignore the passive aggressiveness of your reply - Yes! If you wanna give it a go do let me know if you manage to figure it out though!
Awesome demo! I am really glad you are digging the tones and the unit and especially you liking my profiles. As a long time fan of yours I am very proud of my small involvement in preparing the tones on the pedal sent to you! 🙂 I love my NAM Player, it's super flexible in the output routing. Use that to send signals to a power amp as well as to FOH in parallel, which is something ToneX, Kemper Player and Nano Cortex unfortunately are lacking.
Same here, I'm a huge fan and I couldn't be more proud today. Big ups Pipp! You have done such an awesome job lately with helping out and being so proactive with everything.
@@CTBlaze I’m not sure if they did it right with this price tag. A linux based “whole computer” with a lcd display and a embedded sound card is sub-optimal both engineering wise and cost wise. On top of that, assembling far east imported parts in Germany adds another layer of inefficiency.
I have the fm9 which is so great but so big. The fm3 has only 3 switches which is too little. All i need is my amp and one nice delay sound and one nice chorus sound. Bottom line: im buying!!
The modulation delay so far flying a little bit under the review radar, albeit it is pretty tweakable and powerful. By setting the delay time short you can get some decent chorus sounds or by setting it even shorter and adding more feedback, flanger sounds. If you apply some high pass and low pass filtering you can make the delay really sit well in your mix without interfering to much with your original signal. So, to me it is a little bit more than just a nice to have gimmick but an actual full replacement of an external delay pedal.
Would love to see you start selling NAM capture bundles! Would go perfectly together with your IR packs. You have so many great amps and cabs, and you could even train the models locally on your gaming PC (I don't remember what GPU you have, but I suppose it's a pretty powerful one?).
Many of us bought and received this best NAM Player pedal many months ago, I had mine from the second batch! Anyway, better late than never for you bro!!
Weird that we're getting all this awesome live gear post-coof. Seems like gear like this & in-ears are all you really need to shred. If one had a small profile guitar like a headless, you could travel with your rig & some clothes with just a carry on.
No Spillover, but ZERO switching gap. Literally, none, 0ms. They could establish a prebuffer which has all the profiles "cooking", ready to go off at all times, so there is no latency at all when switching presets.
I love the NAM plugin - it sounds better than my Line 6 POD Go and POD Express. Highly recommended for home studio guys. Do you think the NAM Player could endure life on tour? Is it built well?

I like the old school interface. reminds me of the first gameboy screen.
Wow, great sounds!
4:03 Ola gets the "Damn Deal Done!"
It is way more than convincing 😳. Because of living in an apartment It is impossible to play any sort of amp for me, so I can't be any happier. I remember when I first tried Revalver and now I look at today's technology....mind blowing....
Well, now I want one of these.
@@gabrielstevens41 that's the Ola effect
would be great if the EQ section can be tweaked to fit the actual amp"s tonestack, such as the frequency and the Q.
Hell yeah!
Almost spit out my coffee at "varför är det så JÄVLA högt!?" 😆
I watched the design on the creator's channel it was promising but if the great Ola strongly approves
I got mine a couple weeks ago im really really loving it. Orange Th30 feeling a little neglected atm
Great Video! NAM Rules!
Sounds really good!
I'm glad to see you put.some Damn Deal Done by Entombed kudos
Dimehead sounds amazeballs.
So having both would be nice, it’s a monetary time dilemma !
iv noticed guitarguitar in the u.k stock solar, do you know if/when they'll stock some v's? they've only had the wolfmasters for the last year, looking for one with a neck pickup and evertune bridge, thanks man
Sounds great!
This plus a TC Plethora would be an insane rig!
This thing sounds badass. Might have to make some captures for the people
I use NAM with power amp only captures. I plug into my preamp or pedals, run into PC, use NAM with the power amp capture and Cab IR. It crazy cool.
Hmm, can you point us to a few real cool power amp only captures, please? tone hunt or commercial? or your own?
@@CTBlaze I got them from Tone Hunt. Let me find the name of the package
@@CTBlaze Search there for power amps at the top search bar. You will find them. I can’t name them specifically or my post gets deleted
waiting for the coffee with Michael Romeo Ola
Sounded amazing
Nice to hear an entombed reference there
❤
Nice
Could you do videos of it. Where you show us how to hook it up step by step for a live situation then do the same for the studio situation?
i think I was waiting for something like this.
Bye Bye ToneX LOL!!
Line 6 should team up with NAM for there next gen Helix! Now that would be powerful!!
Yeah! NAM is pretty cool.
The best bass tone I ever achieved was on the NAM. It will be a dream come true to put in on a pedal.
That gold bar at the top had me thinking it was a Friedman for a moment.
I will order it!
NAM is open source!
This is the future. Nam is superior in captures.
But, this convinced me, this, my effects as needed, a power amp pedal for where cabs are usable,
Ola you've sold me on it.
The whole video sounded great OLA! It may not be the equipment... it might be you! 🤨
Anyone know what this riff is at 3:09 ? Been tryna learn this for YEARS and have never come across a tab or anything! Drives me mental! Such a dope riff both with gain and clean.
Banging video Ola as always! Sounds absolutely incredible
It looked a bit like Aerials, by System of a Down.
You havent used ears?
@@Ottophil To ignore the passive aggressiveness of your reply - Yes! I have used my ears for the time that I've been watching and recurringly seeing this riff be played by Ola, and I have gotten through some of it but mainly the structure changes via video as it seems to be a riff he enjoys noodling with in variations.
If you wanna give it a go do let me know if you manage to figure it out though!
Awesome demo! I am really glad you are digging the tones and the unit and especially you liking my profiles. As a long time fan of yours I am very proud of my small involvement in preparing the tones on the pedal sent to you! 🙂
I love my NAM Player, it's super flexible in the output routing.
I've been messing around with NAM in Zynthian, which can run some decent effect chains. the comunity is probabily going to increase a bit.
Sounds great. Can these captures be downloaded somewhere to try?
ToneHunt has a huge collection of NAM profiles. Pipp's & Dom's (chainsaw) are there too.
That shit you was playing at the beginning of the video is fire 🔥👊
These player style plugin loader pedals are the future of this industry. Whoever gets it right will be the winner.
DimeHead did get it right already! Just big player marketing budget missing.
@@CTBlaze I’m not sure if they did it right with this price tag. A linux based “whole computer” with a lcd display and a embedded sound card is sub-optimal both engineering wise and cost wise. On top of that, assembling far east imported parts in Germany adds another layer of inefficiency.
@@CTBlazefor example, go buy a second hand mac mini and a focusrite interface. Open a daw of your choice and insert a NAM plugin. Cheaper.
You putting that on your pedalboard for a gig?
@@ledheavy26 I genuinely do actually every weekend.
This video has really made my day. Thanks Ola!
fuck that sounds good. how does the ui compare to everything else in the pedal board size modeling space?
4:02 “Damn Deal Done” by ENTOMBED ……great !
Btw: sounds real !
Omg first sounds blew me away, totaly insane chuuuugggg
The very first 1 or 2 things he plays sounds so much like Machine Head's first album, damn i want that so bad
is this more like tonex with extra button and delay ?
Ola, plugs into random amp... modeller... pedal... shoe box... and sounds like Ola!
should have wireless option and ext midi pedal option...wireless to change your presets via phone cpu etc,
I have the fm9 which is so great but so big.

Gapless preset switching and spillover?
gapless switching was added with the firmware update that dropped just a couple days ago
No Spillover, but ZERO switching gap. Literally, none, 0ms. They could establish a prebuffer which has all the profiles "cooking", ready to go off at all times, so there is no latency at all when switching presets.
I'm also wondering let's say you're u have real bad ass combo amp can you capture it and use it live without having to run ir
I love the NAM plugin - it sounds better than my Line 6 POD Go and POD Express. Highly recommended for home studio guys. Do you think the NAM Player could endure life on tour? Is it built well?
It's built like a tank, german style engineering =)
I used it on smaller tours, works perfectly fine.
Seems awesome. I still don't understand the difference between Neural and the Quad Cortex or Nano Cortex stuff - need to watch more Ola videos.
