Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking first this legendary band, performing in 2013 at Wacken Open Air festival, in front of a 82k+ audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I could see, you really appreciated the show, the complex movie-score composition, the high level of musicianship of all band members, but most of all - the stellar vocals and charisma of Floor Jansen, our Dutch metal queen. Chills and sweating - yes, there are the usual symptoms
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Nightwish has been using the London Philharmonic Orchestra or part of it in the background with their studio albums since 2004. Also two different choirs (adults, children) as needed. In live concerts, they play it from the backing tape and perform themselves on top of it.
Everything that happens on stage is for telling a story. Fireworks, pyrotechnics, lights, led panels, background music (philharmonic orchestra) and music played by each band member, vocals ... And each song has its own story. And because every story is different, that’s why Nightwish sounds different in every song and within the song there are variations depending on the course of the story.

Some quick facts about the band....
Nightwish has had 3 singers since its birth in 1996. The original singer, Tarja (tar•ya) Turunen, was fired from the band in 2005 because of different points of view between her and Tuomas. Her replacement, Anette Olzon who took over in 2007, left the band in the middle of the Imaginaerum World Tour on September 29, 2012.
Floor Jansen came in as a favor for Tuomas as she was already in her own band, Revamp.
Upon accepting the favor, she was asked to please learn the set in 48 hours before her debut in Seattle, Washington on October 1st. As if having to learn 25 songs wasn't stressful enough for her, Floor was also recovering from burnout.
This video is from the Wacken Open Air Festival in Germany which took place on August 3rd 2013 and was the last concert of their Imaginaerum World Tour. It was also thought to be Floor's last performance with Nightwish as their fill-in singer until Tuomas visited her 2 months later on October 9th and offered her the gig permanently. She is still their current singer.
Tuomas writes all music and lyrics, so keep in mind, ALL performances you watch and react to before 2015, were songs that were written before her time with Nightwish so she doesn't have any actual studio albums with her singing those songs as that was done with Tarja and Anette... only live performances.
Floor currently has 2 albums with Nightwish;
"Endless Forms Most Beautiful" (2015) and
"Human Nature" (2020)

One correction: As far as I know, Revamp was finished when Floor stepped down, due to her burnout.
Also, Kuristah (sp?), the drummer here stepped down in 2014, because of an on-going battle with insomnia. From what I can gather, he is doing much better -- and, like Floor used to, is still having issues with his own mental battles. However, from a magazine interview in November 2019, Tuomas did say that there were some European shows where Jukka played Last Ride of the Day. At first, he was unsure about playing again -- but by the third show he played, he sounded as if he really wants to come back.
And speaking from experience, insomnia is not something to take lightly. As much as I respect Kai Hahto, the current drummer, nobody can truly replace "The Pirate," Jukka Nevalainen.
@@isaiahwelch8066 Floor didn't step down, ReVamp officially disbanded on September 29, 2016. Their 2nd album "Wild Card" was released in Autumn 2013. At that point in time, she was already a solid member of Nightwish and decided to give them 100%. ReVamp was technically still a "thing" for another 3 years after that..

My take on it is....It’s the story of someone madly in love with someone that doesn’t even know them. For example, I have a ghost love for Floor and her voice. 😍😄🤘
Could also reflect despair after losing someone you loved like a lover or even a child ("the child wiil be born again"). My take, is, that it ends with a suicide out love with hope for reunification in afterlife. This is indicated by the first chorus "my fall will be for you into the blue memory" - maybe it stands for the lyrical hero becoming a blue memory after drowning, and is reinforced by the way Floor interprets the ending - this last scream really sounds desperate and fades away kind of like someone screaming during the fall out of a height. So to me she throws herself out of a bridge to reunite with a loved one.
I was introduced to Nightwish by GLS ages ago, and the part where Floor puts out her hand and sings "My fall will be for you" in an entrancing crescendo, it's like she put a spell on me...

the goosebumps are pretty normal and will get more along the way you learn more about the band and lyrics and stuff, the sweatyness is normal, too, but will get better, as you will get used to it, what gets worse is your acceptance of the quality of the music you listen to in general

There are two that should be later down the line:
1. Greatest Show On Earth - need to read, learn, and decode the lyrics first to appreciate it. Even if it's not "super deep".
2. Poet And The Pendulum - need to properly research the story behind this song to even remotely appreciate it. This one *IS* super deep, and there are reasons you'll find "reaction videos" that are two or three times longer than the actual track.
Both should be enjoyed/experienced with lyrics on screen. But later. Ghost Love Score is the perfect introduction, the other two mentioned should not come immediately thereafter.

You have just barely dipped your toe in the nightwish ocean. They have something for everyone. Impossible to find a bad song of theirs.
20+ years of material. 3 different singers. 2 different bassist. 2 different drummers. No radio play(outside Finland). Anyone of these would have killed most bands. Yet it makes Nightwish bigger and stronger.

Keep the particularly long and complex songs listed below, if you have not watched them already, for after you have seen all the more standard ones from the 4 live shows mentioned in the numbered list:
- Ghost Love Score (Wacken) 10 minutes
- The Poet and the Pendulum (Wembley) 14 minutes >>> Doing some research on the background story for this song is very important to be able to appreciate the meaning of the lyrics.
- Greatest Show on Earth (Tampere) 21 minutes
1- Just do all the Wacken 2013 songs, they are all great.
2- Then the Wembley 2015 ones that are not part of the Wacken show.
3- Then the remaining songs from Tampere 2015 that were not in the previous 2 shows mentioned.
4- Then the older songs from Buenos Aires 2018 that were not in the previous 3 shows mentioned.
5- To see what they can do with a cover and if you like Marco's singing, watch their interpretation of Pink Floyd's High Hopes.
6- Then you can explore Floor's versatility with her band ReVamp's live performances of the songs Disdain at Graspop and Wild Card at Bloodstock.
7- And finally go in the deep end of the Floor talent pool by reacting to her performances on Beste Zangers in the order the episodes aired.
For the first 4 steps, you can alternate between shows, but I would recommend to still only take songs that are not performed in the previous shows mentioned, as they are ordered in audio quality from best to worst.
From watching a lot of reactions, in my opinion this is the most efficient order to discover the rabbit hole that is Nightwish and Floor Jansen.

Thank you for the reaction. For more nightwish, well, they have long history and have created their own style using elements of metal, folk, musical theatre, film scores. Often people recommend romanticide from this same wacken 2013 concert for the next song, but it's quite hard heavy metal song and if you like a bit more lighter stuff I would choose either Dark chest of wonders, ever dream, Nemo, ghost river or storytime. All from this same wacken 2013 concert - it's golden.

Takes place some 70 kilometres north from where I'm located.

Her husband Hannes is the drummer of the band Sabaton. They have a little daughter, Freya. And live in Sweden.
Floor just sang a Disney song for Freya from the movie Frozen. It's on here. She also won a singing contest on dutch tv last year, called "beste zangers". You might wanna look out for that. It perfectly shows how versatile her singing capabilities are.

You should also watch music done by Anneke Van Giersbergen. She has a solo project which is titled by her name and did a project called Agua de Annique, Ayreon, The Gental Storm, VUUR, the Devin Townsend Project, and her must popular band that she is in was The Gathering from 1995 to 2007. Plus Nightwish current vocalist, Floor Jansen, who is singing in this video said that Anneke Van Giersbergen is the main reason for her to be a metal musician when she watched a Gathering live show in 1995.

I feel it is the story of a love that is no longer reciprocal. The person who is loved seems to be free and unconcerned with the narrator's feeling. The ending seems tragic to me, with the lover falling into despair.

Nightwish is one of the best groups i have heard. you will love exploring their music.
Welcome to Nightwish. Think of them as the band where Iron Maiden, Metallica and Pantera meet Hans Zimmer, John Williams and Richard Wagner. Nightwish is an all star cast lead by keyboard player Tuomas Holopainen (who composes 90% or more of the music and lyrics) and fronted by Floor Jansen, who you just saw and is arguably one of the most skilled, most powerful singers in the world. Enjoy your ride, anything from this concert is gold but I would suggest Storytime as a next song.

I'll put it this way: If Nightwish is a metal ballad, Unleash the Archers is an explosion: First, it hits you with pressure, then when they get up to speed, all you can do is hold on for dear life. During the summer while the cattle are away the village plays host to tens of thousands of metalheads camping in the cow fields. In homage to the cowfields the symbol was a bulls head, but not just any bulls head, a SKELETAL bulls head. Now that's metal. The burning bulls head is a symbol of that!

As for your question on the lyrics, Tuomas (keyboardist and main composer) often uses metaphors and poetic style for his writings in order to let the listener choose what meaning is fittest for him/her.
IMO this song is about a feeling never confessed to the loved one (hence the "Ghost Love"), and the wish for being loved back.

New to your channel. I've been watching several of your reactions and one thing I've noticed is that your reactions are genuine vs other reactors who over exaggerate their reactions, I really like and appreciate that.
Another thing I noticed is that a certain band is missing from your reactions. They're also a symphonic metal band, but with a wide variety of singers / choirs over the many years they've been around.

The story is actually about the broken heart that results from being in love with one's imaginary fabrication of a particular person rather than the real person. The real person is very much alive and well but is not interested in the infatuated, wannabe lover. The pain comes when he realizes his fabrication is the "ghost." /// Every poem this lyricist writes is deeply metaphorical. Seldom if ever is anything to be taken literally. A very nice first reaction to Nightwish. Is that traffic noise in the background or some kind of resonation from the computer's fans or the A/C? At times it got quite loud. If it's traffic noise then it'd be really tricky to try and minimize that, it would need quite a bit of testing and pondering with different recording settings. Luckily for most of the video it didn't take much attention. One option would be to record your stream from both the original video and the mic mixed together, and then remove or turn off all loudspeakers, which would give the original signal without noise and then you'd only have to worry about the audio quality of your own talking, using maybe gating, compression, different mic locations, etc. It would certainly be a lot easier to record in a location without any ambient noises, lol.
About the song and the band, they do have cinematic qualities in their music - Though not always. There's a heavier side too, and since they've been releasing stuff since the late 90s there's quite a bit of variety available. Seeing that you enjoyed GLS I'd recommend Storytime from the same Wacken 2013 concert. Not quite the same as this but Storytime also comes from a similarly fantastical musical universe.
