Excellent job ! Very good description of these 2 classics. Was thinking of changing my C5 for a 996 phase 2 or a 997. Finally I keep the C5. That is the best bang for the money. And the design has not aged.

Awesome! I know alot of people who have successfully daily driven their vettes for many years. They are a joy to drive everyday and rarely ask you for anything. Keep driving it and loving it. Thanks for watching! More Corvette content coming very soon!
I have a C5 Convertible, triple black, 6 speed, all options, that I bought new. It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! And I always blew away Porsches of the same vintage. Great car!
I was looking for those cars one year ago and finally I bought a manual C5 Corvette because it looks more sportive and I always loved that exterior aspect of the old sports cars.
You made a great choice! Hope you are loving it. What year C5 did you get? Also, Johnny Bravo is in my personal top 5. Just awesome! Thanks for watching!
I was in my late teens when the C5 came out and damn I wanted one so bad. But just like many teens it was just an unaffordable bream. A couple of years ago a was driving and seen a beautiful white c5 with a sale sigh. Looking at the car it brought back all the dreams that I had over this car and ended up pulling over and buying the car. Car sits on my garage now and l enjoy taking it to the canyon roads or just driving it anywhere. I don’t think I will ever sell the car but it might get a younger brother within a couple of years. C8 is calling me and I might just go for it.
This is great! I am sympathetic to your corvette story as i have a similar one myself. Making your younger self proud of you is a big part of living life to the fullest. Enjoy that car. That C5 is soooooooo clean🤤 just got a C7 but C5s are really growing on me lately, I’ve always liked them but now more than ever. I might even argue they look better than the C6s

Great video! I have both- 01 996 Coupe manual and 04 C5 Base manual. My 996 new was 77k while the c5 was 47k and you can definitely tell the difference in overall quality. The 911 is much better in the twisties in terms of feel. The corvette has tons of grip but the numb steering and body roll makes it feel not as capable. Obviously, the Vette is much more brutal in acceleration. 911 doesn't have an LSD, but the Vette does so I have a lot more fun with the Vette in a private parking lot if you know what I mean lol I love all cars and don't give a crap about what people think when they see me driving a Vette or driving a 911 haha.
That's awesome that you get both worlds! Thanks for watching! So you've had front engine and rear engine... Would you ever meet in the "middle" and go Cayman or C8 Vette?
@@DriveItOut I haven't driven a c8 but I've owned a Cayman S and Boxster. While I love the handling feel of a mid engine, I just didn't really like the looks. I also didn't like working on them because of harder access.
True that. Getting to stuff on a Cayman is tuff. Interested to see what you think of the C8. I dont know that the design will age as beautifully as other Corvette generations, but I'm excited to get behind the wheel of one here in the next few weeks.
R u kidding on the looks of a C5 ? (Yes I'm a C5 and C6 owner) that body style is not 90s .... it's timeless , if that car came out tomorrow, the looks would fit right in , you are correct. However, on the C5 reliability mine just turned 190k miles ...
Excellent review of 2 of my favourite cars. I own a 996 C4S, one of Porsches most beautiful designs and a bargain at the time. I am actually looking for a good later model C5 coupe, a real step change in Corvette history and another performance bargain. Everyone goes on about the interiors in these but I love the interiors, very true to their era, no clutter, very familiar and straightforward.
Thank you! I agree both vehicles are underrated. Enjoy that C4S. Get a later C5 if you can. I believe ABS modules are getting very hard to find for earlier C5s. We recently drove all 8 Corvette generations in 1 day! You may like that one as we discuss the C5 further. ruclips.net/video/vAdDhC8rhbE/видео.html Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the kind words. Enjoy that 99. That's a lot of fun per $. The C5 holds a special place in my heart. Thanks for watching, more vette content coming very soon.
Had a 996, not unlike that one but manual. Absolutely adored that car, and in the end, it f'ed me good. The one you REALLY need to worry about is not the IMS - i did the IMS, preemptively. the real gotcha is the porous cylindar heads / bore scoring. They tried some wacky stuff in the mfrg process with the 996es to cut costs. Amazing to drive, ticking timebomb.. at least thats my experience. totaled her out, after putting massive.. and i mean MASSIVE $$ into doing everything preemptively. Loved it so much, Im still looking for another one.. lol. porsches - the best, but, bring money.
Yah, some cars are nice til you pay for em twice.... Sorry to hear you had this experience. I've definitely heard other bore scoring stories. It's such a bummer when this stuff happens because the cars are such a joy to drive. If you did it again would you go 997? Thanks for watching!
You forgot the Acura NSX also had pop up headlights and was produced at the same time as the C5 and Esprit. Good review though, keep it up! I've owned 2 C5 Corvettes so far and I'm looking for my 3rd. The C5 is the BEST used performance car bargain for under 20k. It is such a competitive, tunable, and reliable platform. Very few downsides to the C5. They are still to this day one of the most fun cars to drive, especially with a 6 speed manual!
I love the first gen NSX! Fyi the nsx got rid of the pop up headlights after 2001. The vette and lotus ran them through 2004. I agree the C5 is the ultimate bargain. I have lots of seat time in both C5 & C6 and really enjoy how playfull they both are. What are your feelings on the C8? And no more manual?
Most people think my C5 manual is a 1970s car… I have a 987 Boxster and people think that is a modern car. Even though in reality there’s only a few years between them.
IMS bearing is least of the issues the 996 has. Cracked heads, air to oil cooler, air to oil separator, bank2 cyl liners with 100% chance of bore score soon or later, variocamF1 pads, variocam+ solenoids, water pump issues, vacuum leaks all over...... I just sold my 996 because all this. All of them are ticking bombs.
Indeed! Thanks for watching! You may like our latest Corvette video.... ruclips.net/video/vAdDhC8rhbE/видео.html We drove all 8 generations of the Corvette in 1 day! Good to chat with you my friend.
My friend has a black 996 (2000). I have a black 97 c5. Both manual. Both cars are cool. I've driven both. I think his car is more at home going high speed (over 90) - it really plants down at those speeds and wants to go go go. I am glad to have the vette bc it costs less and wont break down as often lol, let alone 'modability'.
If you look at actual Motorsport races from the early 2000’s the corvette smokes the 911 all the time. If you want a track monster then get the vette, if you want a QUALITY car that’s almost as good as the corvette on the track you get the 911.
Nice review. I think the real sweet spot for C5s would be an 03/04 when they started offering Magnetic Ride Control. What a huge difference that makes.
Thanks! That is definitely a nice setup. Corvette was really ahead of the game with that. Thanks fpr watching! You would probably like our 8 Generation Corvette Review as well. This C5 makes another appearance! ruclips.net/video/vAdDhC8rhbE/видео.htmlsi=at0ch3_fSZW0OpJv
I had a '99 996 cabriolet and it was a great car. Build quality was amazing and was in like new condition. I now have an '02 Corvette convertible and well, it is a Chevy after all so it has Chevy build quality. Performance wise, they were pretty equal although you have to learn how to drive the Porsche in corners. Once you get the hang of it you can really have fun with it. The Corvette, anyone can jump in it and ring it out from the get go. I would have kept the Porsche except for one big factor and that is ownership cost. Porsche parts are just ridiculously expensive and the M96 engine has a bunch of potential catastrophic failure items. Mine has the double row IMS bearing so less prone to failure than the newer ones but still always lingering in the back of your mind. When it goes out you're looking at a $10K engine replacement. Then you have the IOS and intermix issue. The RMS issue, Cylinder bore scoring and a bunch of other stuff. The Corvette is much cheaper with way less issues. The harmonic balancer loosening up is about the only bug issue and it is an easy cheap fix. Plus, it won't destroy the engine if it loosens up. Overall, the Porsche is a better car but just too many possible costly repairs. German engineering builds a wonderful car but I think they are overly complicated. Now the 993 Turbo or even better, GT3 doesn't have the IMS issues but still have some of the other stuff. They are getting pretty pricey now and not a direct comparison to the C5 Corvette.
That's awesome you have personal experience with both! Some good insight there. Porsche's flat 6 engines are such a joy to drive, but as you illustrated their complexity can be a thorn in their side. There are few things more reliable and cheap to work on than a naturally aspirated chevy V8. The fun is enhanced by the worry free driving. Thanks for watching, and keep your eye out for more Corvette content coming from us very very soon.
I am so sick and tired of people pointing out the IMS BS! Change the oil every 3000km, and if your handy its cheaper than a regular car taking to the shop if you change out the parts yourself. I am speaking from experience as I replaced rear shocks, rad fan, thermostat, water pump alternator etc. The 996.2 is incomparable to a GM Corvette. As a design engineer from magna I designed these shitty build parts. If you are a muscle power house dude who's first question is how much horsepower then go with the C5. If you appreciate the engineering build and love to drive all over the place go with the flat 6!
@@9jfd1 Frequent oil changes will not solve the IMS issue. Regardless of you being sick of hearing it, to those that have suffered a catastrophic failure and the resulting $10k plus for an engine replacement, it is not a minor issue. Parts are more expensive even if you are a DIY'er. If you think a C5 is just about horsepower, then you have obviously never driven one. Yes, there is no denying that a Porsche is a better built car. The build quality is impressive and mine was almost 20 years old when I owned it and it felt like a brand new car. For the money though, a C5 and C6 are pretty hard to beat. I think it all boils down to affordability. 996's have gone up in value quite a bit over the last couple years and it is pretty hard to find a bargain on one now. I think the secret got out of it being an affordable Porsche. If you can swing the entry price and don't mind paying the "Porsche tax" when buying parts then they are a great car. I am actually thinking about getting another but will hold out for a TT or GT3 although those are pretty hard to find.
@@LivingOnCash I am not sure about your background but tribological properties of leaving sealed bearings results in degraded or increased friction inside the race due to grease separation. We have set procedures to keep sealed bearings under rotation when stored for streetcar wheel axles as I have 20 plus years experience in engineering after being a design engineer at Magna on the caravan sliding door latch. Getting back to IMS that is why many cases of owners garage queening the cars had infant mortality issues with the bearing. Furthermore everytime the car is brought up to temp and then cooled, the hollow shaft creates a vacuum effect and eventually sucks motor oil on the other side of the bearing causing degradation to the polymeric seal of the bearing. You mention frequent oil changes dont make a difference? I not only disagree but have direct contacts with some of the engineers who were involved in IMS development for the 911. What you know on RUclips is superficial believe what you want. As I said porsche parts are not cheap but if you are handy and save labour for example I bought used OEM rear shocks for $300 CDN and installed my self and solved my creak issue with operating dampening performance restored. Compare that with going to the shop and replacing with new bilsteins it's well over $2k. You are in a similiar predicament if you own a TT, all depends on the tools and skills you have at your disposal. If you cant drop an engine, own a vacuum tool etc. It limits your ability but nonetheless maintaining and working on a flat 6 engine is challenging but rewarding compared to american engines. Stick with Japanese engines from the early 2000's I have half a million km on my 05 mazda 3 original clutch. Bring a car like that to the shop cause it's too rusty to even work on.... guess what costs more to maintain that or my 911? It's more or less the same.
My 996 has cost me a fortune….and it’s not as fun as my C5 or as fast…or as easy to mod…and it doesn’t sound as good….but it IS a better daily…so there’s that.
Great comparison between these two modern classics, and very non-biased. I’ve owned a ‘99 911 6-speed coupe and I almost feel like you missed out with an auto cabriolet. Insert all the cliche adjectives used in journalism and that nails the experience; raw, visceral, analog, exhilarating. I’ve always been a fan of C5’s, but the 911 is just such an experience it’s worth the headaches over the ‘Vette.
Thanks for the honest outlook. I definitely hear more of the headaches with the Porsche. Excellent to drive though. Thanks alot for watching and keep an eye out for more content from us soon including coverage from the SEMA Show next month.
The C5 is still fast, especially with some relatively easy mods. It also just feels fast, you are so low and there is so little roll in the turns coming off something like a WRX even. Some of the Japanese cars handle tight stuff better but those are the ones you can totally take to gapplebees all day anyway (MX-5, BRZ/86). You might have trouble with a brand new 400Z or a BMW Supra but they are turbo and you have so much more potential for power, and you are light and there are plenty of aftermarket suspension parts. You can get a stereo into it, upgrade the headlights and maybe the seats to bring in some modern GT utility. The C5/6 are both great platforms with good aftermarket support and parts availability. Both these cars are going to hold value, they don't make them this way anymore. I will say be prepared to wrench a bit though, Harmonic balancers will need replacing, all those QoL mods need doing, seals will go eventually on these old girls. What better place to get your feet wet than a fiberglass Chevy truck, unlike something with bunch of turbo piping where the plugs are under an intercooler..Or a fancy shamncy rear engine feat of german over-engineering, where parts will cost you more than the car did. Also the C5 has a loooong nose and a (flexable) air dam, so be prepared to scrape every driveway you even think about driving up/down, it's like super-car training.
@@DriveItOut Lol, I can write okay and I know how to edit but I don't think I have the charisma in front of a camera..and I only know about Vettes cause I bought one... and I certainly don't have the energy/connections to find cool sports cars all the time. I might actually do "Tri-State Road Reviews" after I get some accident cams and a go pro or something installed and just talk over footage of mountain runs from my desk and give scores on traffic/population, road condition, speed/tightness. Maybe get some good thumbnails of Bambi and I having a near death experience as wants to happen out here. Do a couple upgrade vids, maybe stream some Forza.. but I barely have the time to finish my headers right now. Anyway, I enjoyed the review, I like the shootout format, keep up the good work! Ps. I hope the dead stare at the camera the entire time the top was going up was a gag, should have slowly zoomed in on your face for effect lol.
Lol , yah it was a gag. Didn't turn out quite like i wanted, but we left it in. Sounds like you've got your hands full. Thanks for watching and the input. Stay in touch. You may like our in-depth reviews of the C6 and C8.
I am warm to this theory, but there could be something to be said for the 996 being the 1st water cooled 911. I'm wondering if 996's will have a sudden increase in desirability some day. It could happen. That said, you are definitely right on the money with the C5. The first trans axle car was a big deal and a huge leap in performance and capability. I'm a fan.
If you can get past the cheap, although functional, interior in the C5...it is unbeatable bang-for-buck. Inexpensive, great out of the box, infinitely moddable, budget track weapon, wonderful balance, etc. I owned a 2004 Z16 and mild cam/bolt-ons made 420rwhp at 3100lbs.
Its kinda crazy . When the top is up, the porsche is one of my favorite cars to look at and in convertible mode i think its the weirdest looking angled plank of metal. One little thing changes how i feel about it.
Ive had the choice in 2020. c5 convertible was the one.... Here in Europe more looks and thumbs up!!! because there are lots of 911 porsches on the road here. great cars! but for me the c5 corvette was, and still is the best car for me !!!! 4 speed automatic is absolutely perfect> 275 km/h I overtake the AMG mercedes models that are limited to 250 km/H

the 911 is a better car but it should be because it cost a lot more when new. That being said the C5 is less expensive to buy and maintain. It has a larger cargo area in the coupe than the Porsche. The C5 is a better looking car in my opinion and the Coupe/targa is the best compromise between a hard top and a full convertible. Both have a great driving experience with the C5 being far more upgradable than the Porsche ( can easily get 400 - 500 hp with little money on the C5). Your choice but I went with the C5 on cost and attractiveness.
Lol! Yah that shot didn't turn out the way I pictured. :) We were discussing how crazy long it took for the 911s top to go up and down. I was attempting to see if I could freeze and not blink for the entire time. Lol, i should have blinked. The button for putting the top up and down is down by your left knee, so i was also kind of bending in an awkward position to hold the button down. It ended up just being a recipe for awkwardness, but we left it in. Anyway, thanks for witching! It wont happen again, lol.
comparing a Carrera to a Corvette is like comparing The Stones to The Beatles/The Band to The Allman Bros/Cream to Derek & the Dominoes, etc. it’s Futile. Corvettes & Carreras are relevant & have been relevant since their births, because there’s nothing else like them except their preceding models. this was a cool upload for dudes like me that equally love Corvettes & 911s. you win every time you purchase, care for, maintain, drive, beat on, hammer down upon, rip & Love either one of these cars’ models. you win every time.
Thank you so much. Very appreciated. I really thought this would be a buying decision that people were really debating these days. We hope to have more content like this soon. For now watch for our upcoming coverage from the SEMA show! Thanks for watching!
Been looking at 996s, and I think I missed the boat. I can't find anything decent under $30,000. Convertibles seem less expensive but I'm in Ohio and have no desire to have a convertible.
Something else that seems to become more and more of an issue, are the lack of nanny electronics on these classic cars. Newer cars have these things...they are really good...but.not really purist cars anymore
The only people who should consider buying a used, out of warranty, German car are mechanics. “German engineering” means overly complex, hard to repair, and brutally expensive. Even the good ones (older cars predating electronics) are ridiculously costly. Ex. My son had a Jeep Liberty. I had a turbo Cayenne. Both needed an upper control arm: Jeep - $40; Porsche - $1,600. Every mechanical repair will costs in the thousands and this is especially true for 911s because there is no room in the engine bay to repair them. They are beautiful and fun, but buyer beware.
I disagree. I ended up HATING my Porsche, because the M96/M97 was the BIGGEST TURD motor Porsche ever laid, period: over-engineered, under developed, cheap parts like a sealed bearing for the IMS, brittle nylon/plastic chain guides, intake plastic parts, weak VVT solenoids, shall I continue? My motor starting cratering by 87K miles, with constant electrical problems, aargh. I'M SO GLAD A MOVED ON TO A C5 Coupe, that has ended up being one of the most reliable cars I've ever owned, not to mention easier to live with. Screw Porsche.
C5 is hard to beat. I know this first hand. I can't think of a more reliable and affordable performance machine of this magnitude. A Porsche can definitely frustrate it's owner with its maintenance, but I'm not gonna lie, I'd like a 987 Cayman before I die. Thanks for watching!
@@DriveItOut I DO like the Cayman, but buy a later model, get away from the earlier engine design as far as possible..me? I will never buy another PORSCHE, except a 1976 912E in good shape.
I agree it's a tough choice, but it wouldn't be if the Porsche's market value were not dramatically reduced by the IMS bearing issues, its styling, and its interior. The C5 is what it's supposed to be, as a Corvette. The 996 is not quite up to snuff, as a 911 at twice the original price. But that's good, because cheap 911, right? Unfortunately, the IMS thing can be a $20-30k nightmare if the engine is trashed, or maybe $4-5k if you catch it in time to take preventive measures, partly because you'll probably do the clutch 'while you're in there'. Replacing the harmonic balancer on the Corvette's LS1 engine is a few _hundred_ dollars -- it really isn't comparable to the Porsche IMS bearing problem, at all. So your budget _definitely_ matters, when choosing between these two excellent cars. Porsches are expensive to own, and always have been. Corvettes are considerably more affordable, and always have been.
I agree whole heartedly. Actually my instinct was to say pretty much exactly that, but in an attempt to avoid viewers viewing that as bias I chose to tip toe around the subject a little more cautiously. In retrospect i may have been too cautious. I think I could have said what you said and still felt it was objective enough. Nicely done. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!
“When big design changes are made I think we get to a point when you go on in years a little ways and the scope of these things get much smaller and they don’t matter any more….and as a car ages you can look back at it and really see it for what it was, and we can appreciate what it is today even 20 years later” 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫🤣🤣🤣………what?
I was specifically referring to polarizing designs like the fried egg headlights on the 911. It was a big deal back then to people who thought it was breaking away from the traditional look. But now that we are down the road 20 years, we appreciate those parts of a cars design, and it doesn't matter a whole lot. Just like no one complains about Corvette tail lights not being round anymore. People have moved on. Things that used to be a big deal aren't a big deal anymore. I hope this helps. I'll do my best to explain it better next time. Thanks for watching!
Straight line speed goes to the Vette all day long, but the 911 can be driven a bit harder in the curves. It's really a preference on how you get your fun. I tend to prefer the Vette as it is more playful at lower speeds. Do you miss your 964? Thanks for watching!
After 4 minutes I'm sitting here asking myself - why the hell didn't you compare the Porsche convertible to a C5 convertible!? Now, on with the video as boring as it may be ¿`_
Good vid but stupid comment about the Porsche's headlights ruined it. They're unique now because Porsche didn't have the guts to keep them. And, they're awesome. The later 997 was a lame attempt to look like the air cooled cars. Shame. Also, 996.1 dual row IMSB is solid, it was the cheaper later models that had single row bearings. Coupe 996.1 is sub 3000lbs and 300hp, only 911 ever to have these specs.
@@DriveItOut I love the efficiency and logic with that interior and the buttons and dash will last forever. 993 dash will crack, don't get me started on paint chipping 997 dash buttons, and that there's so many of them, terrible. 996's rule and people will wake up to it when they see it's like the hated 964 that you could pick up for $15K now they're untouchable. Well, the 996 is lighter with more HP and long lasting. 1999's have dual row bearing that lasts forever. 1999 was the last pure 911. After came the nav systems and techno crap that Porsche marketed to dentist's wife.
I hear you. Though i would say the Vette beats them all in reliability and longevity. The vettes rarely ask you for things and when the do they are much easier to work on.

Thanks for watching!
That C5 is soooooooo clean🤤 just got a C7 but C5s are really growing on me lately, I’ve always liked them but now more than ever. I might even argue they look better than the C6s
Enjoy that C7! They are awesome! Thanks for watching and I think you would really enjoy our 8 generation Corvette review.... ruclips.net/video/vAdDhC8rhbE/видео.html
We drove all 8 generations in 1 day! Including a very nice C7.
100% cooler than a C6 imo… C5 has more of a modern classic vibe where as the C6 just looks like you can’t afford a C7. Just ensure you get a manual.
911 doesn't have an LSD, but the Vette does so I have a lot more fun with the Vette in a private parking lot if you know what I mean lol
I love all cars and don't give a crap about what people think when they see me driving a Vette or driving a 911 haha.
Umm limited slip was optional.
R u kidding on the looks of a C5 ? (Yes I'm a C5 and C6 owner) that body style is not 90s .... it's timeless , if that car came out tomorrow, the looks would fit right in , you are correct. However, on the C5 reliability mine just turned 190k miles ...
Corvette C5 over the 996 911, hands down!

Thanks for watching!
Great info very well done. You know your stuff for sure. I have 99 vett and love it
Thank you for the kind words.
Enjoy that 99. That's a lot of fun per $. The C5 holds a special place in my heart.
Thanks for watching, more vette content coming very soon.
C5 ! ALL DAY EVERY DAY & TWICE ON SUNDAY 👍💯
Great video man, really like how thorough you covered the c5 and the 996, incredible cars
Much appreciated. Thanks for watching!
Black on black 2004 Z06 with 63,390 miles. That's my baby out in the garage.
Hold on to that one
Most people think my C5 manual is a 1970s car…
I have a 987 Boxster and people think that is a modern car.
Sounds like a C5 is definitely for you. Much less stressful ownership.
@@DriveItOut It really is. Maybe parts will be more difficult to find (I'm in Spain) but I think I will enjoy it better. Thanks for the video mate!
Indeed! Thanks for watching! You may like our latest Corvette video....

We drove all 8 generations of the Corvette in 1 day!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy that vette. More Corvette content on the way very soon.
I think of the corvette as the American 911 tbh tho in this era I would rather have the vette but in newer generations I wouldn’t mind having both
If you look at actual Motorsport races from the early 2000’s the corvette smokes the 911 all the time.

Corvette all the way.
Love my 2000’ 996 . Always wanted a vette but I’m happy I ended up with a porsche
The Corvette is just so sexy, it’s faster than the 911 just sitting still!!
Man, great comparison!
Means alot. Thanks for watching!
This is a pretty darn good assessment. You should consider doing car reviews my friend.
The C5 is not only not just a contemporary of the 996, it is also a legendary Corvette, the 996 is not a legendary 911.
99 911 C4 awd w ski rack ...my dream and it's a daily dream
I just bought a 1998 C5 convertible with 86K on the odometer. Six speed manual and it's as tight as a Rolex watch!😂
Stellar! Stoked for you. What color combo?
Corvette for sure. The LS1 is legendary where the 996 is anything but.
Nicely done!

the corvettes trans is in back. trans axel with a torque tube the vette has 50-50 weight dist.
the 911 is a better car but it should be because it cost a lot more when new.
Nice review of both cars. You really freaked me out with this shot, though, 04:05. Not sure what to make of that look. 😂
Lol! Yah that shot didn't turn out the way I pictured. :)
We were discussing how crazy long it took for the 911s top to go up and down.

Porches have the rep but Vette has the looks, IMO
got my frc when i was 19 now im 21 and i fkn love it cam car perfect daily yes in the winter too haaa
85% of commenters prefer the Corvette!
c5 because i can afford to repair it
I prefer the z06 fixed roof
Great choice
Always thought Lexus took some design cues away from the 911 with the SC430.
Hmmmmm
Tiptronic, not Triptonic
Got one in my 04 Mazda 6 3.0L , it’s a lot of fun driving it .
thats a targa top not a hard top frc and z06 are hard tops
Been looking at 996s, and I think I missed the boat. I can't find anything decent under $30,000. Convertibles seem less expensive but I'm in Ohio and have no desire to have a convertible.
Keep searching. Perhaps winter will help you.
Thanks for watching!
I daily drive a C5 Z06 6 spd with a 402 CI LS2 with 600 hp. Porsche’s are for little girls.
Nice
IMS or Bore Scoring?🤷🏾♂️
Just hopefully not both

“When big design changes are made I think we get to a point when you go on in years a little ways and the scope of these things get much smaller and they don’t matter any more….and as a car ages you can look back at it and really see it for what it was, and we can appreciate what it is today even 20 years later”
😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫🤣🤣🤣………what?
I was specifically referring to polarizing designs like the fried egg headlights on the 911. It was a big deal back then to people who thought it was breaking away from the traditional look. But now that we are down the road 20 years, we appreciate those parts of a cars design, and it doesn't matter a whole lot.
Just like no one complains about Corvette tail lights not being round anymore. People have moved on. Things that used to be a big deal aren't a big deal anymore. I hope this helps. I'll do my best to explain it better next time. Thanks for watching!
I've owned neither car, but I've owned a 964 Pcar before. that said - doesn't the Vette just destroy the Pcar in every performance metric?
Straight line speed goes to the Vette all day long, but the 911 can be driven a bit harder in the curves. It's really a preference on how you get your fun. I tend to prefer the Vette as it is more playful at lower speeds. Do you miss your 964? Thanks for watching!
After 4 minutes I'm sitting here asking myself - why the hell didn't you compare the Porsche convertible to a C5 convertible!? Now, on with the video as boring as it may be ¿`_
996
Good vid but stupid comment about the Porsche's headlights ruined it. They're unique now because Porsche didn't have the guts to keep them. And, they're awesome. The later 997 was a lame attempt to look like the air cooled cars. Shame. Also, 996.1 dual row IMSB is solid, it was the cheaper later models that had single row bearings. Coupe 996.1 is sub 3000lbs and 300hp, only 911 ever to have these specs.
Glad you like the headlights. They are indeed unique. It's a fun car. Thanks for watching!
@@DriveItOut The 996 headlights were taken from the only 911 that won LeMans. What’s not to like?
Indeed. I can live with the headlights, but that interior may be harder to live with for some. I'd drive it though.
Weight 3k 911
SL550 is better than both
The sl is a nice car, but too heavy for my taste. Thanks for watching!
C5 pick up more girls easy
But the tiptronic transmission is fantastic specially in the Montaña 🏔.
