      Hey Andrew
Apparently Samsung's upcoming 98" inch QN990 Neo QLED is gonna be their PEAK in both processing & color grading.
Looking forward to that review! 👌

@@gundum1o1 We would love to review that TV but I wouldn't hold my breath! Samsung typically doesn't send review samples for anything beyond a 65". 75" is the biggest they've ever agreed to send. Lately they are really pushing for reviewers to come to them where they have a room set up and the environment is controlled. Typically those situations aren't really conducive to how we like to review. You have a very limited time and the expectation is usually that you'll provide them with the content because it's a paid review, which we don't do.

Seems like Andrew, Christi, and Vincent from HDTVTEST all agree this is one of the best TV’s on the market. While OLED is always impressive, an 85” display with near OLED blacks is the winning ticket for me. I’ve been waiting for this moment, I knew the local dimming tech would catch up before OLED offered larger displayed at affordableish pricing. Thanks as always you two!

Great review, and your last review (and whisper status) turned me on to the X95k. I loved it, but it had this software issue with a checker pattern, so I returned it(it's now been fixed). I got the LG G2, but it was so hard to enjoy it after that TV and ended up getting the X95l. It's my favorite TV I've ever seen, and I've worked in the industry for 20 years. I have too many TVs, LG G2, C7, Sony a90j, TCL 646, Hisense U8h, and Samsung qn90b and I've been a Plasma and OLED guy for so long, and this TV really blew me away. While expensive, I can't say enough about it and highly recommend it. If I need to replace one of my other TVs, though, it's hard to deny the performance value of the QM8. Great video, as always, Andrew.

Can't wait for a nuts and bolts comparison between X95L and A95L. Currently own an A95K and love it, but always curious about how much manufacturers have closed the gap between Oled and MiniLED, especially when considering peak brightness and also the fact that sometimes 24p content sometimes "feels" better on an LED than an Oled (enhanced stutter due to instantaneous pixel response).

Snapped up the XR65X95L with the aid of a pretty hefty (near £1,000-)discount. Couldn’t justify the marginally improved comparative picture processing/picture quality performance over the X90/X93, respective mini-LED Samsung or TCL for the original MRP otherwise.
Only wish the smaller sized TV’s had the slightly improved spec’s. ie. slightly more dimming zones, increased native contrast levels etc. of the 85in model though.

Since I bought a more modern amplifier, I discovered that the OSD not being visible when the TV sends the sound to it is not a problem anymore because now almost all of them have apps. You have complete control of them on the phone (or at least in Denon's case) - you can see what is received, what is outputted - hell, for the first time, I like the volume on a phone app better than on the Logitech remote because it's a slider. You can jump at whatever percentage you want with a single touch.

For some tine, I have been toying with getting either the 85 inch TCL mini led, or the 98 inch TCL C735k. Last year I upgraded to the superb 65 inch Panasonic 1500 LZ OLED. My only regret is that I didn’t go bigger. I found your review of this Sony miniled, thought provoking. In the UK where I reside the Sony 85 inch miniled retails for £1400 more than the 98 inch TCL. So the combination of size and price made the 98 inch TCL a clear winner.Marks Electrical delivered Installed and set up that 98 inch tv in my 6m by 7m lounge last Friday. It sits on a purpose built cabinet along the shorter wall at a right angle to my large windows. I have no issues with reflections or brightness levels. Because the Tv is standing on a cabinate, with a good space between it and the wall behind it, the speakers have room to breathe and totally negate the need for a sound bar. I love it, so do my children. The wife is far from convinced. So maybe size does matter!!!

TVs, are no question better, the bigger they are, for home theater. Now if you are saying a really crappy 85" vs the best 77", then that could be a question, but the same TV in a larger size>>>the same TV at a smaller size. I have a 77" A80J and a 65" A95K and I only watch movies on the A80J, even though the A95K has better picture quality/brightness. The bigger size, makes it much better for movies.

@@bigcdub as an owner I can tell you the blooming is literally not a thing but in vivid and standard modes the dimming algorithm doesn't function the same way. The set behaves like a low zone count tv. BB most likely is using either one of those modes. In the Cinema or Custom mode which isn't a mode that BB uses is where the dimming zones work their magic. Trust me, I'm a stickler for blooming. I almost returned the set because I was using standard mode and noted how awful the set looked because blooming was a mess. Then I was told to use cinema mode and you can literally watch the zones disappear and the black levels get OLED like.

I’m with Kristi on the size issue. Once you have 100” (98ish) or bigger it’s hard to dial back. I do think the 2inches between an 85 and 83” screen makes a difference. BTW, you WILL be remodeling that room. ;)

Thanks, Andrew and Kristi for yet another great review video. I have to buy a TV this week for my new small rented apartment here in the UK.
I am not worried about size - 55" or 65" (I am considering 55 for A95K and 65 for X95L as available here in the UK as both cost GBP 2200), both are fine by me as viewing distance in my living room where this TV will be is just 3 metres with a big window on the right side which has a curtain. Sound and Google TV/Android is no big deal as I use Apple TV with a pair of Apple HomePods and I am not an audiophile. Use will be for streaming movies and music and gaming on PS5.
I am now confused between 65" X95L and 55" A95K as both cost the same here in the UK. Topics I have been a bit concerned about are blooming, deep natural blacks, burn-in, sharper image, etc. At the same time, I am wondering how long each TV can last. Usually, with my other tech devices, I tend to buy the latest assuming longer life.

IMHO the only thing that gets close to that Panasonic plasma is the Samsung S90C/S95C. They have relatively excellent black frame insertion at 24p. The way the TV reflects light is very much like the plasma. And the image just has that something that the plasma also has. A LCD will always look like a LCD, and a LG based OLED will also look like a LCD, just better.
If my plasma should die eventually, the only models I'd consider would be the 2023 Samsung OLEDs (with Samsung panel) and the Sony A95L (if it gets the BFI right... in terms of colors it'll be great).

@@andrewrobinsonreviews It can do absolute black, sure. But not if right next to it there's something bright. No matter how good, there'll always be halos and other sorts of compromises (like reduced brightness). While an OLED will easily do a star field with super bright stars right next to pitch black, on an LCD you'll either have dim stars with relatively dark blacks or you'll have bright stars with grey surroundings. On a 15" screen having 2500 zones is acceptable. But most TVs don't have this many at 85", and there it'll be noticeable.

Each model year Sony has gotten better with the blooming. Understand though that blooming is somewhat a naturally occurring phenomenon when you have bright white (or a light source) surrounded by black. Some of the blooming you're seeing occurs in one's eyes --it's potentially worse when you have astigmatism. Even our LG OLED can exhibit some natural bloom even if the panel itself isn't the culprit.

Just sit closer. I don’t understand how people, such as in this RUclips video, can sit so far away from the screen and call it “immersive”. The viewing angle needs to be at least 30 degrees. HiDef is about size, not resolution.
Edit: I misspoke about the angle. It should be as large as possible within the capabilities of the video display, not just 30 degrees, that’s a minimum.

    • @andrewrobinsonreviews
      @andrewrobinsonreviews  Год назад +2

@declanfarber To achieve the recommended 30* viewing angle as stated by SMPTE, one should seated 11.5' away from an 85" screen - which is exactly how far away we sit. I don't know where you are getting your information about our room but now you know.

@@andrewrobinsonreviews So perhaps it’s just a trick of the camera or some lens thing, but it didn’t look like it. It just seems awfully far away. It reminded me of what David Lean said when he first saw the telecine of Lawrence of Arabia: “You’ve reduced my movie to the size of a postage stamp!” :^)
Anyway, we’re sitting close enough to our 4k Sony 940D (which does 3D BTW, so the one you’re reviewing is crap in comparison :^) to get a 67 degree field of view. That’s a distance of 4 feet. (With 4k you can _do_ that and I think you should.) If you lean really far back you can get it down to 48 degrees, although I don’t know why you would. That’s what I call immersive. When people say “Oh you should see that on a big screen” I just laugh.
