I bet what Streep was probably doing (which makes it especially brilliant) was thinking about what she could say that would embarrass the other actors the most -- what she could say that would make it hardest for them to deliver "bad news" to her right afterwards. Great actors will focus on the other actors and how to impact them, and she's one of the greats.
This is really impressive. The funny part is the imaginary voice she's making up in her phone call, but her reactions are quite logical responses to what she's imagining. Fascinating.
She's amazing. It's not just in her film acting where she gives different takes, look at her interviews. She can tell the same story in another interview and she gives you a different take on the same story so it seems like a new story. She puts so much effort into everything she does, both on and off screen. That's why she's the best.
Improv or prepared? She had the script and knew she needed to "improv" there. A professional actor is always prepared. Either way, she is truly talented and a comedic genius.
As a film buff at 71 years old, it takes a lot to impress me with a film. I have a lot of thoughts of "been there, seen that". I loved "Don't Look Up" because it's funny, clever, thought provoking, and entertaining. I've seen it three times already, and I'll see it again sometime. Congrats to Adam McKay and all involved.
At 72 years old, Meryl Streep is classified as a senior citizen. But God damn it, not in this production! She totally personified someone that was 25 to 30 years younger than where she is now! She definitely did not look her age. In the way she arranged her acting role was complimentary of her younger looking age in this film Meryl Streep was totally in rare form.
Maybe this is how 72 is supposed to look or would look if a person took really good well-rounded care of their appearance and health? I think if people stopped putting arbitrary limits on how one should look in certain age ranges, they would stop surprising themselves when they see evidence to the contrary, especially as it seems to happen often enough.
When you remember her character in Out of Africa (for example), and compare that to this film, the extent of her range, ownership of persona and command over the camera is phenomenal. Greatest Actor of our time!
Imagine asking Meryl Streep if she has trained in any acting or theatrical technique like improvisation, something every actor ever has some familiarity with, from taking a high school acting class to master classes. Wild!
All improvisers think they’re the only ones who can do it. Sure it’s a skill you can hone, and you need imagination to start with, but you’re totally right- everyone with a theatre background has done improv at some point.
Meryl Streep is so much in the same way she performs, elegant, so relatable. She is talking to the phone as if there's really someone listening to her at the other end
How fascinating and mesmerizing to the fellow actors on set. Great improvisation is a talent that can easily render a viewer mute and in awe. It can be a jaw-dropping experience. Why wouldn't it be a roller-coaster ride of fun when employed by the supremely talented Meryl Streep? How fortunate we all are to have the ability to see this: a great actor doing her thing. Thank you Adam McKay for letting it happen.

@@lamanodeyoutubedeyoutube5754 Yes, the emptiness. I hope this generation and next ones have patience to experience that emptiness. And they understand it doesn't need to be filled with first thing they find. It's okay just to remember good movies\songs.
Once again Netflix, where are the deleted scenes from Tick Tick Boom, we know the "Green Green Dress" number was filmed because we can see snippets in the trailer.
@@ImxPhreme Yeah, aesthetically that’s very true, no doubt. The screenplay and some other details of her performance I found to reference democratic presidents as well, which I think many of the people who didn’t like the film may not have picked up on, hence the many references to this movie being bad or partisan or preachy. I think some people felt insulted by it but it was a respectable and pretty even critique I thought

This was an underrated movie that was funny as hell. But it did shine a light on the false reality a lot of people live in today where truth, facts, are dismissed in ignorance and it's not about what's real, it's what you can make people believe is real. That was the sad irony to it. But thankfully, there's a whole lot of people who will have to put their time in on planet shit ball while I can see I won't have to tolerate near as long.
this is straight up a exercise you do in drama school! very nice to see it actually being put to use

the absolute GOAT
I mean, she did go to another planet....
Can you imagine the rest of the crew have to keep a straight face while Ms Streep does her improve? I can't. That's why she is GOAT.
wouldn't that make the rest of the crew te goat, because they kept it together ;)
She better be good with looks she has, or lacks
