Thanks, worked like a charm! Had to drill out a filing cabinet lock. 3 pins and it popped open. I drilled just above center, focusing on the pins like you first lock.
as a locksmith for 29 years, always drill a shear line, take your time, if you rush, you will break a bit off, then you are screwed,,,and always drill perfectly, not like this video, his angles are all crooked,,,,,,,good luck,
He just said..... The shear line ffs this is why simple shit proffessions like locksmith and plumber exist. Because people are to fucking stupid to stop and use their own brains.
Nicholas Dean nope. Ive tried, i stole an Electric bike and i had to dump it. I broke 4 different drillbits. So please dont talk about something you dont know anything about.
Nicholas Dean Including disc-detainer locks? Don’t think so. Also, mine was just a joke. No matter how good or bad a padlock is but it should never have an acrylic body to begin with.
Markus Lennart oh so your just a piece of shit then? Well I’m not really gonna take advice from someone to lazy to work to buy their own shit so I wouldn’t expect you to be able to put in the time to drill out a lock correctly. Btw your a moron for posting that lol
Thanks so much. My son locked my keys in the shed... even though he's been told a million times "bring the key back as soon as you unlock it"...I was watching this when he decided to not wait ten minutes and took my hinges off my 15 years old shed...sigh... but hey thanks to you I know how to pop the lock for future reference
I have no idea where one obtains clear-bodied locks, but they were an excellent device for this informative tutorial! Also, though I can postulate some reasons why certain people, locksmiths and police for instance, might give your video thumbs down, I cannot agree. There are, in fact, legitimate and lawful reasons for drilling locks. I recently purchased several job site tool boxes at auction. One is locked. The theft-discouraging design of the box houses the padlock within a steel recess where the bow of the lock is totally inaccessible to any cutting device without severely damaging the box. Thank you for providing this excellent tutorial that gives me several alternative methods to consider. I will return another time to see if you also have a video detailing methods of drilling out an integral Medico (if I recall the brand correctly) lock on the door of a soda pop vending machine that a former tenant abandoned on a property I own. Regrettably, I already probably procrastinated too long since the machine sat in an unheated building through several sub-zero Montana winters--I shudder to contemplate what, other than a few coins, I will find inside ;-)
As to which method works best, I would think a plastic lock isn't the best test medium. For a practical real world scenario it would've been nice if you would've also included drilling out real world locks/deadbolt/doorhandle using the same methods. Yes being able to see what happens inside is insightful. Title should read: How to drill out plastic practice locks 4 diff ways.
Exactly my thoughts! Of course methods that drill though less soft plastic are easier on this lock while they will be harder than drilling through the cilinder with a lock that's all metal or even has drill protection
Nice! I was looking around for a video on this as I was wondering what was going on inside the lock and what the target objective was. Thank you for beating out an animation and showing it with these clear locks!
Another point to make for people is there going to be drilling in steel not plastic. So angle grinder and a pair of pliers to hold it steady. I've used this method on many storage units over the years.
If you have the angle grinder then you're better off just cutting the lock instead of drilling it, it's much faster (just look at professional bike thieves they don't drill the locks, they use a grinder and cut them).
@@2011blueman that's what he was saying. Cut the lock with the grinder, but you obviously don't want to put your fingers directly next to the spinning blade so use pliers to hold it still. If you try and grind it without keeping it still then you'll just push the lock away from the grinder and it won't cut
3:18 why this cut? all the pins jumped at the sheer line, I wanted to see the last one! I think it is better to keep the drill bit in and turn the core. Interesting to see it, thanks for the video!
Usually you don't even need to drill very far. The vibration will magically rattle the pins into the open position. If the key turns counter clockwise, use a left hand drill. I found this by accident once while drilling out a door knob in my house. Not the quietest way to open a lock. But this made me realize that most locks are not particularly hard for a thief to open. False security.
Hah, my kid locked her room with her sister's computer (needed for school), her computer (needed for work) and a friend's car key inside. Smooth move dudette! It was a standard cylinder lock for which there was no key (it's a rental we took during remodel). I drilled a small hole above, but as near as I could get to the shear line. Like reality, I could not always keep the drill straight, so it veered right-up and then a little up. But, it was a smallish hole, so once I got it fairly straight, I turned the drill on a higher speed and just "sawed" down a little bit and the lock easily opened. The hole is small so you can hardly notice it. The lock still works from inside, but anything that turns the cylinder such as a screwdriver will now open the lock. The whole door mechanism is still completely functional so we're not even going to replace the lock. Moral #1 of the story (IMHO) drill just above the sheer line (why not through the sheer line? Because it's really hard to do that since the cylinder is often harder steel) and then with mild downward pressure, high turn rate, press lightly down until it chews through the sheer line. Don't break the drill! This has the advantage of leaving the door knob and even lock inside completely functional. Moral #2 Holy hell, this type of lock should not be used on your outside doors! It literally took me all of 10 seconds and I bet I could do it in 3 with a bit of practice. This is not secure at all!
Don't drill fast like this goofball. Ruins bits almost immediately. A good, regular old HSS bit cutting at proper speed with cutting fluid can handle hardened steels without a problem and still be good when you're done
@@chuckfreeman7392 we drilled the bottom of the lock and was boring the barrel but was loosing power so we went from the side, got all the way to the silver swing arm before drill died. Considering going to bug an angle grinder

Heres a few other tips for free, Check which direction your new drills on hahaha it shoudlnt take longer than a minute it may be the video but it looked like you had the drill on reverse.?! Either that or those drill bits are just garbage. -Buy a cordless angle grinder, cut the rasp the thing the lock is locked onto, dont even bother with the lock. You can also just cut the brass part of the lock, even a hacksaw will cut straight thru easily. -Buy a pair of bolt cutters with a couple of pieces of steel pipe on the handles, again dont bother with the lock just cut the thing its on. -use a drill bit the same size as the lock and drill the whole barrell out. Use lubricant and decent drill bits. Even hardened locks with the right pressure, bit and lube itl take under 2 mins.
I got locked in my room, lost the key to the door and tried getting out by the window... I have no idea where the key is because the window has been locked with a lock for like 6 years... I went for method 4....I'm still trying
THAT WORKED PERFECT..... Yeah on a piece of shit made of plastic, do that with some harden anti-steel drill pins, along with a harden steel body and some serrated lock you'll have about 2 hours and about 25 broken drill bits and still wont open.
If the locks going to be ruined the fastest and easiest way is a angle grinder battery powered. Battery powered because you can control the speed variable. And it goes like butter literally less than 10 seconds. I did my neighbor's boat and he was amazed.
Not at all. To be honest padlocks are some of the simplest easiest locks to pick. But i dont bother anymore. Ive got new padlocks for people to buy and i either cut the lock with hydraulic shears for shits and giggles, drill the whole lock off or simple cut the thing off away from the lock and sell them a new latch hahahaha.
